• Surface tension is exhibited by liquids due to force of attraction between

molecules of the liquid. The surface tension decreases with increase in
temperature and vanishes at boiling point.
Interface temperature surface tension in mN. m-1
Water – air 20°c 72.86 ± 0.05
Water – air 21.5°c 72. 75
Water – air 25°c 71.99 ± 0.05

• The methods used to calculate absorption rate constants are:

MASTERS PHARMA SOLUTIONS, HYDERABAD

1. Method of residuals
2. 2. Method of Wagner-Nelson
3. Method of inspection
• Wetting agents act by decreasing the contact angle between the particles
and solvent.

CONDITION OF WETTING:

Contact angle Degree of wetting

θ = 0° Complete wetting or perfect wetting
0< θ <90° High wettability
90°≤ θ≤180° Low wettability
Θ=180° No wetting

more water miscible solvent in a drug
to increase solubility of drug
Dielectric constant Ratio of electric permeability of the
material to the electric permeability of
free space
Hydro trophy It indicates increase in solubility in
water of various substances due to
presence of large amount of additives
