CLASS 10 MATHEMATICS
WORKSHEET SOLUTIONS: REAL NUMBERS
ANSWERS
1. (c ) x=20 ; HCF = 20
2. (b) 23x 5x 53
3. Let us consider in contradiction that 13 - 25√2 is rational.
Let us assume 13-25√2 = a / b
-25√2 = a/ b - 13
√2 = a/b -13/(-25)
√2 = 25a - 13b / -25 b
√2 = 25 (integer) - 13 (integer) / -25 (integer) {Integer / integer = p/q}
We know that a number in the form of p/q is rational.
So, 13+25√2 is rational.
But we know that √2 is irrational.
Hence our assumption is wrong.
So, 13+25√2 is irrational
4. (a) 1
5. (a)
6. LCM = 2x2x2x3x7x11 Total time = 3x60x60 sec
Number of times they toll together = total time/LCM = 5 times
7. 3 x 5 x 13 x 46 + 23 is a composite number.
This is because,
3 x 5 x 13 x 46 + 23 = 23 (3 x 5 x 13 x 2 + 1) = 23 (390 + 1) = 23 x 391 = 8993.
Since 8993 is a product of 2 distinct numbers, hence it is a composite number.
8. n is a positive odd integer So (-1)^n = -1
2n is a positive EVEN integer [(-1)2 ] n = 1n =1
2n+1 is a positive ODD integer (-1)2n+1 = [(-1)2 ] n x(-1) = 1n (-1) = -1
4n+2 is always a positive even integer. (-1)4n+2 = [(-1)2 ] 2n+1 = 12n+1 = 1
9. LCM (3 × 52, 32 × 72) = 32 × 52 × 72 = 9 × 25 × 49 = 11025
10. Let us assume, to the contrary, that 3√7 is rational.
That is, we can find coprime a and b (b ≠ 0) such that 3√7 = ab
Rearranging, we get √7 = ab/3
Since 3, a and b are integers, ab/3 is rational, and so √7 is rational.
But this contradicts the fact that √7 is irrational.
So, we conclude that 3√7 is irrational.

Let us try another number, say, 123456789. This can be written as 32 × 3803 × 3607. Of course, you
have to check that 3803 and 3607 are primes!
12. Every composite number can be expressed (factorised) as a product of primes, and this factorisation is
unique, apart from the order in which the prime factors occur.
13. 4n = (22)n = 22n
The only prime in the factorization of 4n is 2.
There is no other prime in the factorization of 4n = 22n
(By uniqueness of the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic).
5 does not occur in the prime factorization of 4n for any n.
Therefore, 4n does not end with the digit zero for any natural number n.heck whether 4n can end with
the digit 0 for any natural number n.

14. (b) 2m will always be even

5n will always end with 5
So, if we multiply 5 by any even number, it will end with 0.
Hence 2mx5n will end with 0.
15. No, LCM = Product of the highest power of each factor involved in the numbers.
HCF = Product of the smallest power of each common factor.
We can conclude that LCM is always a multiple of HCF, i.e., LCM = k × HCF
We are given that,
LCM = 175 and HCF = 15
175 = k × 15
⇒ 11.67 = k
But in this case, LCM ≠ k × HCF
Therefore, two numbers cannot have LCM as 175 and HCF as 15.
16. 104 = 23 × 13
96 = 25 × 3
HCF = 23 = 8

(a) Number of rows of students of class X = 1048 = 13

Number maximum of rows class IX = 968 = 12
Total number of rows = 13 + 12 = 25
(b) No. of students of class IX in a row = 8
No. of students of class X in a row = 8
(c) The objective of school administration behind such an arrangement is fair and clean examination,
so that no student can take help from any other student of his/her class.
