7 Assertion (A): The equation x 𝟐 + 3x + 1 = (x - 2) 𝟐 is a quadratic equation. [1]

Reason (R): Any equation of the form ax 𝟐 + bx + c = 0 where a ≠ 0, is called
a quadratic equation.

a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.

c) A is true but R is false.

d) A is false but R is true.

SECTION B
8 Show that 2 - 𝟑√𝟓 is an irrational number. [2]
9 If 𝜶 and 𝜷 are the zeros of the quadratic polynomial f(x) = ax 𝟐 +bx + c, then [2]
evaluate: 𝜶𝟐 𝜷 + 𝜶𝜷𝟐
10 Solve the equation:

defects and 3 have major defects. Varnika will buy a phone, if it is good but the
trader will only buy a mobile, if it has no major defect. One phone is selected at
random from the lot. What is the probability that it is

of the truck.

SECTION E
16 Question No. 16 (i),(ii),(iii) are based on the given text. Read the text [4]
carefully and answer the questions: Real numbers are extremely useful in =1
everyday life. That is probably one of the main reasons we all learn how to +1
count and add and subtract from a very young age. Real numbers help us +2
to count and to measure out quantities of different items in various fields
like retail, buying, catering, publishing etc. Every normal person uses real
numbers in his daily life. After knowing the importance of real numbers,
try and improve your knowledge about them by answering the following
questions on real life - based situations.
(i) Three people go for a morning walk together from the same place. Their
steps measure 80 cm, 85 cm and 90 cm respectively. What is the minimum
distance travelled when they meet at first time after starting the walk
assuming that their walking speed is the same?

a) 12240 cm

b) None of these

c) 6120 cm

d) 4080 cm

(ii) In a school Independence Day parade, a group of 594 students need to

march behind a band of 189 members. The two groups have to march in
the same number of columns. What is the maximum number of columns ?

a) 27
b) 6

c) 9

d) 29

(iii) Two tankers contain 768 litres and 420 litres of fuel respectively. Find the
maximum capacity of the container which can measure the fuel of either
tanker exactly.

a) 18 litres

b) 7 litres
c) 4 litres

d) 12 litres

17 Question No. 17 (i),(ii),(iii)are based on the given text. Read the text carefully [4]
and answer the questions: Elpis Technology is a laptop manufacturer. The =2
company works for many branded laptop companies and also provides them +1
with spare parts. Elpis Technology produced 6000 units in 3rd year and 7000
+1

units in the 7th year.

Assuming that production increases uniformly by a fixed number every year.

(i) Find the production in the 1st year. 2

(ii) Find the production in the 5th year. 1
(iii) Find in which year 10000 units are produced? 1
