Due to heavy floods in a state, thousands were rendered homeless, 50
schools collectively decided to provide place and the canvas for 1500
tents and share the whole expenditure equally. The lower part of each
tent is cylindrical with base radius2.8 m and height 3.5 m and the
upper part is conical with the same base radius, but of height 2.1 m. If
the canvas used to make the tents costs Rs.120 per 𝒎𝟐 , find the
amount shared by each school to set up the tents.

A solid toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a right
circular cone, the height of the cone is 4cm and diameter of the base
is 8cm. Determine the volume and surface area of the toy. If a cube
circumscribes the toy then find the differences of the volumes of the
cube and the toy.

35 If twice the area of a smaller square is subtracted from the area of a 5
larger square, the result is 14 𝑐𝑚2 . However, if twice the area of the
larger square is added to three times the area of the smaller square, the
result is 203 𝑐𝑚2 . Determine the sides of the square.

The total cost of a certain length of a piece of cloth is Rs 200. If the piece
was 5 cm longer and each metre of cloth costs Rs 2 less, the cost of the
piece would have remained unchanged. How long is the piece and what
is its original rate per metre?

36 To conduct sports day activities, in a rectangular shaped school 1+
ground ABCD, lines have been drawn with chalk powder at a 1+
distance of 1 m each. 100 flower pots have been placed at a distance 2
of 1 m from each other along AB, as shown in figure. Nishtha runs
1/4 th the distance AB on the 2nd line and posts a green flag. Suman
runs 1/ 5 th the distance AB on the 8th line and posts a red flag.
(i)What is the position of green flag?

(ii) What is the position of red flag?

(iii) What is the distance between both the flags?

37 Height of a Climber: Himalayan Trekking Club has just hiked to the 1+


south rim of a large canyon, when they spot a climber attempting to 1+
scale the taller northern face. Knowing the distance between the sheer 2
walls of the northern and southern faces of the canyon is
approximately 150 meters, they attempt to compute the distance
remaining for the climbers to reach the top of the northern rim.

Using a homemade transit, they sight an angle of depression of 60◦ to


the bottom of the north face, and angles of elevation of 30◦ and 45◦ to
the climbers and top of the northern rim respectively.
(i) How high is the southern rim of the canyon?

(ii) How high is the northern rim?

(iii) How far is the climber from the top of the northern rim?

38 The school auditorium was to be constructed to accommodate at least 1+


1500 people. The chairs are to be placed in concentric circular 1+
arrangement in such a way that each succeeding circular row has 10 2
seats more than the previous one.

(i) If the first circular row has 30 seats, how many seats will be there
in the 10th row?

(ii) If there were 17 rows in the auditorium, how many seats will be
there in the middle row?

(iii) For 1500 seats in the auditorium, how many rows need to be
there?

If 1500 seats are to be arranged in the auditorium, how many seats are
still left to be put after 10th row?
