STUDENT / SPORTS / ARTS LEADER POLICY (2024)

Leaders will be expected to:


 Work as a team, supporting each other in their duties,
 Take a high profile on all official school occasions (eg. assemblies,
Presentation Night, house sports, etc) and represent the College at outside
events (eg. Bass Coast Shire Council, service organisations, visits to school etc),
 Serve as active members of the Wonthaggi Campus Student Representative Council and
attend all meetings.
 Entertain and assist visitors to the school,
 Be aware of opportunities to be of service to the College and suggest them to the Principal,
 Behave in a manner which shows respect for the position and the College, and which provides
a role model for other students of Bass Coast College,
 Actively liaise with the other student leaders, the wider student body, teaching staff and
administration to suggest improvements in any respect of school life.
 Be an active member of the breakfast club each Tuesday and Thursday morning.
 Attend and assist with school events including swimming sports.

Student / Sports / Arts Leadership is a very high profile appointment and should not be
accepted lightly. It is an opportunity to make a very positive contribution to the life of the College.
In return, the administration will consult the appointees on any matters related to student policies
and facilities. At the same time it will be recognised that VCE studies must take first priority in
senior years and care will be taken not to interfere with the time needed for these.

The selection process will involve two steps:


 A nomination process and written application (calling for expressions of interest);
 A shortlisting process by a selection panel (where final candidates will be identified); and

In shortlisting the final candidates the following criteria will be considered:


 Demonstrated commitment to the College program and its underlying values;
 A positive attitude in all areas of the Curriculum;
 A strong record of involvement in student activities;
 A proven ability to provide leadership to the student body;
 Demonstrated involvement in and commitment to the local community; and
 Demonstrated attitudes and behaviour appropriate for a positive role model for all students.

Note: Should an elected Leader be involved in behaviour that is deemed inappropriate during their
elected tenure, their position will be reviewed and they could be displaced form the role. A positive
contribution is essential throughout the year.

Student Leaders will be elected by the selection panel who interview all the applicants. Sports and
Arts Leaders will be appointed by the selection panel featuring members of their respective Key
Learning Areas.
