• On the 28th of January, 1950, two days after India became a Sovereign Democratic Republic, the Supreme Court came into
being.
• The Supreme Court of India comprises the Chief Justice and 33 other Judges appointed by the President of India.
• Supreme Court Judges retire upon attaining the age of 65 years.
• In order to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court:
o a person must be a citizen of India and must have been,
o for at least five years, a Judge of a High Court or of two or more such Courts in succession,
o or an Advocate of a High Court or of two or more such Courts in succession for at least 10 years or he must be,
o in the opinion of the President, a distinguished jurist.
• Hon'ble Mr. Justice Harilal Jekisundas Kania was the First Chief Justice of India.
• Term of Office: (DoA) 26-01-1950 to (DoR) 06-11-1951.
• Appointed as The Chief Justice of India on 26-01 -1950
• Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud is the 50th and Current chief justice of India serving since November 2022.
• He was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of India in May 2016.
• Term of Office as CJI : (DoA) 13-05-2016 to (DoR) 10-11-2024.
• Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court from 31 October 2013 until appointment to the Supreme Court.

 Female Judges of Supreme Court


On 6 October, 1989, Justice Fatima Beevi created history by becoming the first lady judge in India's Supreme Court.

Ruma Pal was the longest-serving female judge of the Supreme Court of India. Tenure 28 January 2000 to 2 June 2006.

Indu Malhotra on 27 April 2018, became the First female judge who was elevated directly from the Bar Council of India.

B. V. Nagarathna is assumed to be the first female Chief Justice of India in 2027.

Military excericise

1. The inaugural edition of the 16-day bilateral Air "Exercise Veer Guardian 2023" between the Indian Air Force and the Japan Air
Self-Defence Force has concluded in Japan.

2. 21st “Varuna” the bilateral Naval Exercise between India and France commenced on the western seaboard.

3. The First Joint Exercise between the special forces of the Indian and the Egyptian Army, "Exercise Cyclone - I" is scheduled to be
conducted at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

4. Indian Navy has carried out a six-day-long largest biennial tri-services amphibious "Exercise AMPHEX 2023" along with the
Indian Army and the Indian Air Force near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.

5. The Border Security Force (BSF) has started an “Ops Alert” Exercise with an aim to enhance security along the India-Pakistan
border in the Kutch district of Gujarat and Barmer in Rajasthan.

6. The 6th edition of the Joint Exercise "TARKASH' has concluded in Chennai by the National Security Guard (NSG) and the US
Special Operations Force (SOF).

7. India - Japan Joint training Exercise “Dharma Guardian" will be conducted at Camp Imazu in the Shiga province of Japan.

8. The 4th edition of the biennial training 'Ex DUSTLE 2023' between Indian Army and Uzbekistan Army will be held in
Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.

9. Indian Air Force is participating in "Exercise Desert Flag VIII" in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 27 February to 17 March
2023.

10. The First Joint Military Exercise "FRINJEX-23" between Indian Army and French Army has been conducted at Pangode Military
Stations, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

11. The 10th edition of annual India-Sri Lanka bilateral Maritime Exercise "SLINEX 2023" between Sri Lanka Navy and India Navy
commenced in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

12. The First phase of Exercise "Cope India 23" (CI23), a bilateral Air Exercise between the Indian Air Force and the United States Air
Force is being held at Air Force Station Arjan Singh (Panagarh Air Force base) in Panagarh, West Bengal (WB).

13. Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) conducted a large-scale Joint Military Exercise “Exercise KAVACH” involving the assets
of the Indian Armed forces – Army, Navy, Air Force, and Indian Coast Guard.

14. The 7th edition of joint military Exercise “AJEYA WARRIOR-23” between India and the United Kingdom is being conducted at
Salisbury Plains, United Kingdom.

15. A Joint Training exercise namely "Exercise Trishakti" Prahar (Three-Force Strike)’ was held between the all arms and services of
Indian Army, Indian Air Force (IAF) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in North Bengal.

16. INS Trikand is participating in the International Maritime "Exercise/ Cutlass Express 2023" (IMX/CE- 23) being held in the Gulf
region.

17. The First edition of the Joint Military Exercise "FRINJEX-23" between the Indian and French Army was conducted at Pangode
Military Station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The Theme is “Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations in a
Contested Environment”.

18. The 13th edition of a bilateral Armour Training Exercise "Bold Kurukshetra" 2023 was held between India and the Singapore
Army at Jodhpur Military Station, Rajasthan, India.

19. The 2nd edition of the Africa-India Field Training Exercise "AFINDEX-2023" between India and 23 African nations began at the
Foreign Training Node in Aundh, Pune, Maharashtra for training the participating contingents.

20. The Annual bilateral Maritime Exercise "Konkan 2023" between the Indian Navy of India and the Royal Navy of the United
Kingdom is being held at the Konkan coast in the Arabian Sea.

21. The Indian Army and Indian Air Force jointly conducted the multi-domain 96-hour Air-Land Exercise “Vayu Prahar” along the
Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Eastern command.

22. The 12th edition of the joint military exercise "Ex Ekuverin" between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force
has commenced at Chaubatia, Uttarakhand.

23. Indian Army is participating in the multinational peacekeeping Joint Exercise "Ex Khaan Quest 2023" in Mongolia.

24. The Seventh edition of the bilateral "JIMEX23" Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2023 hosted by the Indian Navy, is being
conducted at Visakhapatnam.

25. The 15th Edition of the Joint Military Exercise between India and Mongolia "Nomadic Elephant 2023" begins at Ulaanbaatar,
Mongolia.

26. The 19th "YUDH ABHYAS" an annual joint exercise between the Indian Army and the US Army, is set to begin in Alaska.

27. Indian Naval Ships, Submarine & Lrmp Aircraft Reach Singapore To Participate In Simbex 23.

28. 21st Edition Of India France Bilateral Naval Exercise ‘VARUNA’ – 2023 Held in the Arabian Sea.

29. INS Sumedha arrived at Port Alexandria, Egypt to participate in ‘Exercise BRIGHT STAR- 23’. This edition of the multinational Tri-
Services military exercise will see participation from 34 countries. It is the largest ever joint military exercise in Middle East & North
Africa region.

30. Indian Air Force Makes Its Debut In Exercise BRIGHT STAR-23 In Egypt.

31. "Operation Sajag", a drill was conducted by the Indian Coast Guard along the west coast. The drill facilitates revalidation of the
coastal security mechanism and bring awareness among the fishermen at sea.

32. Indian Army and Indian Air Force contingent comprising 120 personnel departed for Kazakhstan to take part in the 7th edition
of Joint Military "Exercise KAZIND-2023". The Exercise was conducted at Otar, Kazakhstan.

33. Indian Naval Ships Ranvijay (guided-Missile Destroyer), Kavaratti (ASW Corvette), Submarine Sindhukesari and a long range
Maritime Patrol Aircraft P8I participated in the 30th edition of Singapore India Maritime Bilateral "Exercise SIMBEX" in Singapore.

34. India and Bangladesh commenced the 11th edition of Annual Joint Military "Exercise SAMPRITI" in Umroi, Meghalaya.

35. Coastal Security "Exercise Sagar Kavach" involving all maritime security agencies was conducted by the Indian Navy in Andhra
Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and the UT of Puducherry.

36. The 2023 Edition of the Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise (AJHE) - “CHAKRAVAT 2023”
was conducted by the Indian Navy (IN) at Goa.

37. Indian & Malaysian Army commenced the Joint Bilateral training exercise “Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023”, in Umroi
Cantonment, Meghalaya India.

38. Indian Army and Indian Air Force contingent comprising 120 personnel departed for Kazakhstan today to take part in the 7th
edition of Joint Military ‘Exercise KAZIND-2023’. The Exercise will be conducted at Otar, Kazakhstan.

39. The 4th Edition of Bilateral Exercise between Indian Navy and Bangladesh Navy, BONGOSAGAR-23, and the 5th edition of
Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) by the two navies was conducted in the Northern Bay of Bengal from 07 - 09 Nov 2023.

40. The 9th edition of Joint Military Exercise “Exercise MITRA SHAKTI-2023” commenced today in Aundh (Pune) between The
Indian and Sri Lankan Armies.

41. Eastern Air Command (EAC) of Indian Air Force will conduct its annual Command level Exercise - Ex Poorvi Akash from 30
October to 5 November.

42. The 14th edition of the India - United States of America (USA) Joint Special Forces Exercise, Vajra Prahar 2023, commenced at
the Joint Training Node in Umroi Cantonment, located in Ri Bhoi district of the north eastern state of Meghalaya.
