Mch Sure. We need it for solar power. Will everyone
use solar power in 10 years?
Fch My mom works in solar power. She says we will use
it for almost everything in the future.
Mch I think she’s right. Solar power is cheap
and powerful.

Fch I’m a center on the team. I’m tall, so I’m good at
making baskets.
M OK, and tell us how you feel about winning tonight?
Fch I feel great!

Fch We’ve played twenty games so far. We lost two
games early in the season, but we’ve won every
game since.
M Why were you able to win the championship game?
Fch Well, I think our coaches are the biggest reason.
They taught us how to be good players. They were
discussing the game plan with us at 2:00, before the
game.
M And where is your school going to put the
championship trophy?
Fch We will put it in the front office. That way, everyone
who walks into our school will know that we are the
champions.
M That’s great to hear, Violet. What did you do when
the game ended and you realized you’d won?
Fch I was screaming when everyone celebrated.
M And will you get to watch the video of the game?
Are you excited about that?
Fch Yes, I am. My mother took a video of the whole
game. She filmed all of our games this season. I will
watch this game over and over for sure.
M Well, that’s good news and thanks for your time,
Violet. Go celebrate and jump around with your
teammates.

A Messy Party

My name’s Vanessa, and I had a wild birthday party. It was a lot of fun, but it got
messy. I think every one of my friends made a mess. I didn’t mind, though,
because the party was so much fun!

Poor William was so excited to eat his cake. But he dropped in on the floor.
While he was doing that, Kate spilled her orange juice on the floor. They were
both disappointed, but it just made me laugh.

Then Dexter knocked over my mom’s favorite statue. He felt really bad about it, but it
made me laugh, too.

While this was happening, my dog ran through the room. He had rolled in the mud
outside, so he was very dirty. He got dirt and mud all over everything. Trina saw him
running at her and screamed so loudly. It made me laugh even more.

Wayne tripped on the tablecloth and fell down. I felt so bad for him, but I was
laughing. I said, “Hey, while you’re down there, help Lana find her wallet. She lost
it.” Everybody else laughed when I said that.

Speaking
Summary of Procedures

The usher introduces the child to the examiner. The examiner asks the
child what his/her surname is and how old he/she is.

1 The examiner shows the child the candidate’s copy of the Find the Differences
picture. The child is initially shown the examiner’s copy as well, but then
encouraged to look at the candidate’s copy only. The examiner then makes a
series of statements about the examiner’s picture and the child has to respond
by making statements showing how the candidate’s picture is different, e.g.
(examiner) ‘In my picture, a man’s wearing a uniform. It’s blue.’ (child) ‘In my
picture, the man’s uniform is red.’

2 The examiner shows the child the candidate’s copy of the Information Exchange.
The child is initially shown the examiner’s copy as well, but then is encouraged
to look at the candidate’s copy only. The examiner first asks the child questions
related to the information the child has, e.g. ‘How old is Anna’s sister?’ and the
child answers. The child then asks the examiner questions, e.g. ‘What’s Anna’s
brother’s name?’ and the examiner answers.

3 The examiner tells the child the name of the story and describes the first picture,
e.g. ‘These pictures tell a story. It’s called “The new TV.” Just look at the
pictures first. (Pause) Tom and his dad are in a shop. Tom’s dad is buying a
new TV.’ The examiner then asks the child to continue telling the story.

your family?’
