Executive Summary:

Our project is a logic circuit that consists of three parts:

1. Combinational circuit
2. 555 timer circuit
3. Sequential circuit
We will build this circuit to show the desired output on a seven-
segment display.

Background:

The project is being proposed so that we can learn how to build

combinational and sequential circuits using logic gates, multiplexers
and flip flops. Making this project will help us to learn how to connect
all the ICs required to show an output on a seven-segment display. This
implementation will help us to understand the theoretical knowledge
better.
Overall purpose/Objective of the project:

For the combinational circuit, we made the truth table for our desired
output, ‘FIFA2018’. Then we used the truth table to draw K-maps for
each output of the seven-segment display. Then we used the results of
the K-maps to form Boolean functions of each output. If we group the
1s in the K-map, we will get the functions in SOP form and if we group
the 0s in the K-map, we will get the functions in POS form. Using the
basic logic gates, we built the SOP and POS circuits on the Logisim
software. Then we built the SOP circuit using the universal gate NAND
and the POS circuit using the universal gate NOR on Logisim. The fifth
combinational circuit was made on Logisim using multiplexers. Before
making the fifth circuit, we made the truth tables for each output
separately and found the corresponding MUX inputs and select bits.
After building all the circuits, we compared the circuits and then
concluded that we will build the MUX circuit using the hardware
equipment for the combinational part of this project.
Then we will make the 555-timer circuit after doing some calculations
to generate clock pulse as desired.
After completing the timer circuit, we will make the sequential circuit
using flip flops.
Finally, we will complete our project by connecting all three circuits.
The objective of this project is to show the output ‘FIFA2018’ on a
seven-segment display for binary inputs of decimal numbers 0-7.

The screenshots of our combinational circuits built on Logisim are

shown on the next page.
Project Work Plan and Human Resources:

Sohana Akter Shoshi completed the POS combinational circuit, Md.

Toky Tahmid Efty completed the SOP circuit, Lubna Islam completed
the NAND part and Farhan Labib Rashid completed the NOR and the
MUX circuits.
All of us built the MUX circuit using the hardware equipment.
Farhan Labib Rashid will do the calculations for the 555-timer circuit
and after completing the calculations all of us will build the timer
circuit.
Finally, the whole group will build the sequential circuit and complete
the whole project by connecting all the circuits.
The combinational circuit of the project will be shown on 8th December
and the sequential circuit will be shown on 15th December.
The whole project will be submitted after our lab finals.
Proposed Budget:

1. 6 pin Dip switch x 1 = 25Tk

2. Breadboard x 3 = 450Tk
3. Dual 4:1 Mux IC 74153 x 4 = 135.4Tk
4. Seven-segment display CC x 1 = 14.85Tk
5. NOT Gate IC 7404 = 27.59Tk
6. Jumper wires (200 pcs) = 250Tk
7. 9V battery x 1 = 100Tk
8. 9V-5V converter x 1 = 15Tk
9. Battery connector x 1 = 25Tk
Our total budget for the combinational part of the project is 1042.84Tk.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, building this project will not only help us to understand

the theory better but it will help us to learn how to build combinational
circuits using logic gates, mux and flip flops to show output digitally.
