PLANTATION
OBJECTIVE:. TO STUDY AND GAIN KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PLANTS AND
THEIR ROLE IN ENVIRONMENT.

On 6th January 2024 I have planted a Pandanus plant. Which is commonly known as pandan.
It has fragrant leaves which are used widely for flavoring in the cuisines of Southeast Asia. It
is also featured in some South Asian cuisines (such as Tamil cuisine) and in Hainanese cuisine
from China.

We were made to plant saplings in the college campus. Each one of us planted shadow. As we
say "small changes results in great result”, every individual contribution towards the nature
can save the word and each and every life on earth. Now a day’s many plants which have the
great values have got extinct and some more are in the condition of getting endangered.

This process made us to inspire others to nurture the nature and to say that “LIVE AND LET
LIVE”. That the world not only belongs to humans but also to whole Eco system. It’s a
responsibility of each and every citizen to contribute a thing which is valuable to the
environment. The objective of this session was to implement a nature loving or being
compassionate about plants and we young lads are responsible for keeping the environment
healthy and take care the earth and its resources for the next generations.

ADVANTAGES OF PANDANUS PLANT:

Culinary Uses: Pandan leaves are often used in South and Southeast Asian cuisines. They are
boiled, juiced, or used to wrap and flavour meats12. The leaves can also be pulverized to
produce an emerald-green extract used to flavour both Savory and sweet dishes.
Nutritional Value: Pandan leaves are a good source of dietary fibre, vitamins, and minerals.
They are rich in dietary fibre, vitamin A, vitamin C, B vitamins, and vitamin E. They also
contain minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and copper.
Health Benefits: Pandan leaves may help manage blood sugar levels, promote weight loss,
improve digestion, boost immunity, improve vision, and protect cells from damage. They
are also high in antioxidants and flavonoids and may possess anticancer properties.
Medicinal Uses: Pandan has long been utilized in Ayurvedic medicine to treat constipation,
boils, and cold- or flu-like symptoms. Beauty Enhancer: The essential oil extracted from
pandanus plants is commonly used as perfume and in cosmetic products due to its natural
scent.

Importance of plantation:
Plantation is the process of transferring of seedlings from one place to another for different
purposes. Furthermore, there are various reasons behind tree plantation but the most
important are forestry, land reclamation, and landscaping. Each process of tree plantation is
important and unique in its own way. To conclude, the time has come for us to realize the
importance of tree plantation. Also, it is our duty to contribute to tree plantation. In
addition, the government must take this matter seriously and should start working towards
involving more and more people to advance the cause.

WHAT I LEARNED: About organic farming. The uses and the advantages of organic
farming and the methods of doing organic farming and how to use the water in limited way
and how to conserve the water and regarding waste water management and how to
implement them in daily life.

METHODS OF PLANTATION:

1. DIRECT METHOD OF PLANTING

2. INDIRECT METHOD OF PLANTING

DIRECT METHOD OF PLANTATION: It is the sowing of seed directly into the soil
by passing the need for nurseries and irrigation, this fulfills 2 goals the farmers have in
mind, namely to produce food and to do this economically.
INDIRECT METHOD OF PLANTATION: Indirect planting is planting seeds in a starter
such as pot. Once ready ,you transplant the plant to a more permanent location, whereas
directseeding you plant the seed in more permanent location.
Adoption of trees: The solution to catastrophic events like wildfires, floods and pandemics
lies in restoring green cover and restoring the balance in nature. Planting or adopting trees can
help safeguard jobs, human health and essential natural resources for millions of people.

Course outcome: We came to know that the Planting and adaptation is the responsibility of
each and every citizen of India. Each and every living organism is directly or indirectly
depended on the plants and the plant product. Contribution of the individual person towards
the nature helps the growth of green nature. This initialization of involving the students in
adaptation will bring a great change to environment.

SOAK: Soak the tree while you work to ensure the root ball is soakedthrough ,as a dry
rootball could reject water from the surrounding soil.

DIG: It is important to dig a hole that’s at least twice the size of the existing root ball of the
tree .Depth is more important than width in most cases,so be sure to dig enough of a hole
that the existing roots can be completely covered .

IMPROVE: Improve your soil to help the plant survive in long term .In clay soils, add
somegypsum to improve the soil structure and drainage ,and well rooted compost to provide
organic matter and further structure. In sandy soils, compost I a must as it helps hold
moisturearound the roots.

DECANT: Take the plant out of its pot in a way that keeps the roots as in act as possible.
Rootdisturbance in healthy stock will shock the plant. If the plant is pot bound or the roots
have poor structure.

PLANT: Place the plant in the hole, and black fill it with soil to cover the roots. Make sure
the soil around the plant is firm, leaving a slight well at the top so that when it rains the water
getscaught directly above the roots.

WATER: Water is used for the growth of the plant properly and to settle the soil tightly by
the roots.

HERITAGE TOUR
OBJECTIVE: VISIT TO HERITAGE PLACES, KNOWING REGARDING THE
HISTROY OF SOME HERITAGE PLACES,

PLACE 1: SHIVALYA

The Ishvara temple, also referred to as the Ishwara or Isvara temple, is an early 13th-
century Hindu temple in Arsikere, Hassan district, Karnataka India. Dedicated to Shiva, it is
one of the most notable early Hoysala architecture examples with a rotating circular plan, a
domed mandapa with 16-point star shape, a pancatala vimana, and a galaxy of artwork
depicting Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism and Vedic legends of Hinduism.

The Ishvara temple was one among a complex of many Hindu temples in Arasikere. Most of
these and their artwork were destroyed and mutilated in or after the 14th-century. Along with
the Ishvara temple, a simpler and more damaged double temple (Shivalaya) survives and is to
the immediate north of the Ishvara temple within the current compound. This double temple
has red-stone pillars. About 200 meters to the southwest of the Ishvara temple is
the Sahasrakuta Jinalaya – a ruined and mutilated monument of Jainism.[3]
The Ishvara temple is protected as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological
Survey of India.[4]

2: HALEBIDU TEMPLE

Hoysaleswara temple, also referred simply as the Halebidu temple, is a 12th-


century Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva. It is the largest monument in Halebidu, a
town in the state of Karnataka, India and the former capital of the Hoysala Empire. The temple
was built on the banks of a large man-made lake, and sponsored by King Vishnuvardhana of
the Hoysala Empire.[2] Its construction started around 1121 CE and was complete in 1160 CE.

During the early 14th century, Halebidu was twice sacked and plundered by
the Muslim armies of the Delhi Sultanate from northern India,[5][6][7] and the temple and the
capital fell into a state of ruin and neglect. [8] It is 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Hassan city and
about 210 kilometres (130 mi) from Bengaluru.[9]
The Hoysaleswara temple is a Shaivism tradition monument, yet reverentially includes many
themes from Vaishnavism and Shaktism tradition of Hinduism, as well as images
from Jainism.[10]
The Hoysaleswara temple is a twin-temple dedicated to Hoysaleswara and Santaleswara Shiva
lingas, named after the masculine and feminine aspects, both equal and joined at their transept.
It has two Nandi shrines outside, where each seated Nandi face the respective Shiva linga
inside.[11] The temple includes a smaller sanctum for the Hindu Sun god Surya. It once had
superstructure towers, but no longer and the temple looks flat.[12] The temple faces east, though
the monument is presently visited from the north side. Both the main temples and the Nandi
shrines are based on a square plan.[13] The temple was carved from soapstone.

PLACE 3:BELUR TEMPLE

Our next visit was to BELUR it was very nice to visit.

Chennakeshava Temple, also referred to as Keshava, Kesava or Vijayanarayana Temple of


Belur, is a 12th-century Hindu temple in, Hassan district of Karnataka state, India. It was
commissioned by King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 CE, on the banks of the Yagachi River in
Belur, an early Hoysala Empire capital. The temple was built over three generations and took 103
years to finish.[2] It was repeatedly damaged and plundered during wars

repeatedly rebuilt and repaired over its history. It is 35 km from Hassan city and about 220 km
from Bengaluru.

OUR TEAM:

After visiting the temple we were very surprised to see the beauty of the temple and the
number of people visiting the temple it was the great architecture and the temple was located
with the surrounding mountains greenery the beautiful environment at surrounding of the
temple. And we came to know about the Social Connect and Responsibility history of the
temple and it was beautiful to see and enjoy the nature as well as the temple.

PLACE 4: SHRAVANBEL GOLA

Shravanabelagola is an important Jain pilgrimage Centre in South Karnataka. Shravanabelagola is


home to the 18 m high statue of Lord Gometeshwara; considered to be one of the world’s tallest
free-standing monolithic statues. Constructed in 981 AD by Chamundaraya, a Ganga warrior, it is
carved out of a single block of granite and looms on the top of Vindhyagiri Hill. It is visible up to
30 km away. There are nearly 700 steps hewn in the to see so much grace and poise etched on a
sculpture of such big scale. The statue truly reflects the idea of great strength devoid of rage
andanger. This massive monolithic statue of Lord Gomateshwara will definitely leave you in awe.
The surrounding enclosures has images of all the Jain Tirthankaras.

Vindhyagiri: Vindhyagiri is a large rocky hill 133 meters above ground (1002 meters above
sea level). The Gomateshwara statue is located at the top of Vidhyagiri hill, surrounded by a
temple complex. Reaching the top requires climbing hundreds of steps cut on the rock.
Palanquin service is available to carry senior citizens wishing to visit the temples and statue on
Vindhyagiri

Chandragiri Hill: Chandragiri hill is located opposite to Vindhyagiri. 14 different temples


(Jain Basadi) are found on top of Chandragiri, most prominent ones being Shantinatha,
Parshvanatha and Chandragupta basadi.
Timings: Shravanabelagola temple timings are 6.30 AM to 11.30 AM and 3.30 PM to 6.30
PM. At least half a day is recommended to explore the hills of Shravanabelagola.

Mahamasthakabhisheka: Perhaps the most thrilling act of worship can be witnessed here
during the renowned Mahamasthakabhisheka ceremony. Every 12 years, Jain pilgrims gather
here to participate in the colourful Mahamasthakabhisheka of the Lord (head-anointing
ceremony). From a specially erected scaffolding, priests and devotees pour hundreds of pots of
curd, milk, honey, vermilion, coconut water, turmeric paste, and even gold and precious jewels
over the statue’s head. The whole structure is awash in different colours which is a sight worth
seeing. The most recent Maha Mastakabhisheka was held in 2018.

WHAT I LEARNED: I learned a lot of things on this trip knowing the history of the
places and enjoying nature spending time with friends and the past architectures cultures
creativity and the histories of the temples and how would the water is conserved and
many things

MY FAVOURITE PART

My favorite part of the trip is especially visiting the shravanbel gola hills it was great to
claim the hill and the nature the surroundings and the place where the templeis located the
history of the temple was very great and I was enthusiastic about the architecture which
was built and the temple which was built creatively and the surroundingsof the temple was
good and also view from top of the hill was amazing.

ORGANIC FARMING AND WASTE MANAGEMENT


OBJECTIVE: TO GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ORGANIC FORMING
AND WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT.
With the subject social connect and responsibility to know the importance and process of
Organic farming in the present word we went through our professor “DR. PADEEP” sir
Farm house.

A BRIEF CV OF DR.C R PRADEEP

ORGANIC FARMING

He underwent undergraduate and master’s program of IIT Kharagpur. Awarded Doctoral


degree from IIT Bombay.Worked as a research fellow at School of Mathematics, Tata Institute
of Fundamental Research, Mumbai Was a faculty member at the Department of Mathematics
and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Presently professor at Channabasaveshwara
Institute of Technology, Gubbi. Published several papers in reputed mathematical journals.
Experimenting in low energy lifestyle at a farm house near Gubbi.

He also said about Benefits of organic farming Environment-friendly. Healthy and tasty food.
Inexpensive process. It uses organic inputs. Organic farming is more labour intensive. And
allthis was about organic farming

Organic farming can be defined as an agricultural process that uses biological fertilisers and
pest control acquired from animal or plant waste. Organic farming was actually initiated as
an answer to the environmental sufferings caused by the use of chemical pesticides and
synthetic fertilisers.

Introduction

On 2nd March 2024, Students of ECE with two lecturers went for a trip to Surgenahalli kaval
near C S Pura. The main objective of our fieldtrip was to gain knowledge about Growth of
microorganisms in soil fertility, Rain water harvesting, Waste water management and Types of
plant species. We arrived at 10am. we planned to visit organic farm which was cultivated by
Mr. CR Pradeep sir. the place which we visited is about 15 km from our college. The place
which we visited was originally a dryland which was inhabited by very less people. This
region usually gets about 60 mm rain fall or we can say about only 6 cm of average rain fall
every year. Here rain harvesting method is used to conserve water where Ferro Cement
Technology is used to store the water. The process “Mulching” is done around the plants to
prevent excessive loss of moisture. Mulching is also used to enrich the soil nutrients. Unlike
sunlight and water, Microbes are also essential for the plants. He also said about Benefits of
organic farming Environment-friendly. Healthy and tasty food, inexpensive method. It uses
organic inputs. Organic farming is more lab.

PLANT SPECIES

In this field trip we learned about different types of plant species. Plants can be identified by
observing certain distinguishing morphological characteristics. Some plants are closely
related, which is shown by the similarity of their flower structures. These plants are placed
into a specific plant family. An herbaceous example of a family that is based on similarity of
flower parts would be Asteraceae, the aster family, of which marigolds and zinnias are
members. An example of a woody plant family would be Aceraceae to which maples

belong. Within each

family there are members that are more closely related than others. This relationship is
demonstrated by the similarity of basic morphological traits like leaf shape or arrangement.
These plants are placed in a group called a Genus. Maples belong to the genus Acer while
marigolds are placed in the genus Tagetes. Members of a plant genus are again subdivided,
according to their similar morphological characteristics, into a grouping called a species. So,
in this field trip we learned about some different types of plants i.e.,

Gliricidiasepium(gobbaradagida)

Gliricidia (Figure 8) is a small, rapidly growing, and thornless tree with bright pink flowers in
the spring that appear to be entirely outcrossing. It has been spread internationally as an
ornamental, green manure, fodder, and firewood tree. The trees clone easily from stem
cuttings but develop better roots from seedlings. Planting of gliricidia clones as living fences,
as support trees for peppers and yams, and as shade for cacao and coffee, often involves ‘seat
of the pants’ selection oerect, less-forked types.

WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT

We have gone through the wastewater management and how to use the wastewater for
necessary needs and without making zero waste .example, we have been observed that as per
the trip we when we saw that the wastewater was managed to lands, trees, and washing the
cattle, etc like the wastage of bathroom water was sent to the plant trees and wastage water
of Home like vessel washed water was used to pour for The plants, trees and out to use that
wastewater without simply letting it go out

MY FAVOURITE PART

management, it helps others to consume the water. Many people are not having water to
drinkso we need to adopt that in our daily lives and we need to conserve water for the future
to avoid scarcity of water. This was my favorite part of this field trip.

WATER CONSERVATION

OBJECTIVE: TO GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT WATER CONSERVATION


CS PURA

On 6th March 2024, Students of ECE with two lecturers went for a trip to Surgenahalli kaval

As a next part we all moved towards another place by a walk, where we can find great view of
Rain water management system, then Sir explained about how we can manage rainwater by
collecting in a sufficient dry well or a tank like structure, where from Rainwater harvesting is
the process of collecting and storing rainwater for later use. This can be done by redirecting
the flow of rainwater from rooftops, parking lots, and other surfaces into storage tanks or
cisterns.

The collected rainwater can then be used for a variety of purposes, such as irrigation, watering
plants, flushing toilets, and even for drinking if it is properly treated, Rainwater harvesting is a
sustainable practice that can help reduce the demand for water from municipal sources,
especially in areas where water is scarce. It can also help to reduce stormwater runoff and
prevent erosion.

Water conservation is the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary water
usage.

Top most water-saving tips

* Switch to showers.

* Keep the sprinklers off.

* Turn off the tap.

* Fill up the washing up bowl.

* Make sure your dishwasher is full!

* Use leftover cooking water.

Regarding, water consumption we learned about how to use water in a limited way or how to
use the water only for necessary uses and how to store rainwater and use it for daily chores
or daily uses without wasting the water how to conserve it and store it and use it for the
further uses. We saw how the water has been conserved using a small type of pond are
cement bucket, and a tank type, which is used to store the rainwater and which was used for
bathing and washing vessel purpose. This is how we saw the varieties of ways to conserve
water and use it in a limited way and also how to use the conserved water for the
plants,cattle,etc.
We have gone through the wastewater management and how to use the wastewater for

FOOD WALK
OBJECTIVE: TO GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TRADITION OF SOUTH INDIAN
FOOD AND THEIR HISTORY.

Introduction

A food walk is an immersive culinary journey that explores the local food culture of a region.
Our recent food walk on 6th Febraury 2024 in CIT Gubbi we arranged food walk named as
“Amruth Mela” is a special memorial event dedicated to remembering Deepak and
Yashaswini
. This gathering holds a significant place in our hearts as we pay tribute to their cherished
memories . The event takes on an additional flavor by incorporating a food festival, specially
curated for students studying in the Electronics branch.

It provides a platform for students to come together, enjoy good food, and build connections
within their academic community. The event serves as a unique blend of remembrance and
celebration honoring the lives of Deepak and Yashaswini while creating a joyful space for
students to connect over a shared love for food and Electronics.

MAIN THEME OF THE FOOD FESTIVAL

Food festival showcase popular dishes, representing preference of the local community and
establishing ecological links. The goal is to have high quality regional food festival that
professionally managed events, true to the region’s food story and community spirit.

In this food festival Indian food culture initiate could leverage this well attended format to
promote local and regional cuisines. A network of food festivals with a strong element of
local/regional flavor could be created in different states.

Food festivals are events that celebrate different types of cuisine and food culture from around
the world. They provide an opportunity for people to try a wide range of food and drinks and
to enjoy live entertainment and interactive activities. A food festival theme could focus on
showcasing the cuisine of a specific region or country, showcasing a particular type of food
such as street food or showcasing the use of certain ingredients such as seafood or vegetarian
dishes. Whatever the theme, food festivals are always a lively and delicious event, and a great
opportunity to try new foods and have fun with friends.

and communities. so we showcased our Karnataka tradition foods which are healthy and provide
awareness on choosing healthy foods rather than junk foods.

WHAT I LEARNED:

Vegetable curry preparation:

Vegetable curry is a versatile and healthy and tasty dish that can be customized according to
personal taste preferences. To prepare a basic vegetable curry, we should follow the simple
steps i.,e..

1. Ingredients: Gather your choice of vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, peas, bell peppers,
cauliflower, and onions. You'll also need curry spices like turmeric, cumin, coriander, and
gram masala. Don't forget garlic, ginger, and chili for added flavor. Additionally, have
coconut milk or tomato-based sauce as a base.
2. Preparation: Wash and chop the vegetables into bite-sized pieces. Finely chop garlic,

Our part of the event was to do the above menu and let the other people taste it and tell their
opinion. so we are very excited to do it and we have done it very greatly and deliciously
everyone was very happy to taste the Rumali Roti with Vegetable curry that was made for us
and it was a great experience to be part of this kind of event and be involved in this kind of
events we learn many things the knowledge about the food the different kinds of food and
their history and the ingredients and the ways of doing them and how good how better we can
make them delicious and how the people are attracted towards the food how the food plays an
important role in human life and also it was a new experience for us which was haven’t done
before me and my friends together done this and it was another great experience.

We started our food preparation at 7:00 AM

We completed preparing our food and garnishing at 11:30 AM

The Inauguration function started at 11:45 AM

At 12:00 PM we started to serve the food for our Beloved Guests.

CONCLUSION

There are many different cultures around the world that celebrate different things. Often food
is part of these celebrations and traditional dishes have developed over the years using foods
that are commonly found in their particular parts of the world. There are numerous cultures
across the world that celebrates various things. Food is frequently a part of these festivals that
are usually found in their respective sections of the world Food fest was completed
successfully. It created a good impact on the students where they learned to work in team and
other various aspects involved in these festival. “It is health that is real wealth and not pieces
of gold and silver.”
