3.2 4WD Layout
• The transfer case transfers power from the transmission
to the front and rear axles by means of drive shafts.
• The Transfer Case in the Scorpio-N is an Electric Shift-
on-Fly Transfer Case with 3 modes 2WD – 4WH – 4WL.
• When 4WH mode is selected, direct torque transmission
is done to all 4 Wheels.
• When 4WL mode is selected, torque multiplication is
done by 2.48 times & then transmitted to all 4-wheels.
Do not drive with 4-Wheel Drive engaged (4WH/4WL)
on the hard-paved surface to avoid damage to the

6 Engine Stop-Start in variants equipped with Automatic Transmission
The Engine Stop Start (ESS) system has been phenomenal in reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency. This
system automatically switches off the engine while the vehicle is stationary and then starts it again automatically when
the driver wants to drive off. With the Scorpio-N, the ESS system will be available with models equipped with Automatic
Transmission as well. In order to integrate the ESS feature, the Automatic Transmission of the Scorpio-N is fitted with an
Electro-Magnetic Oil Pump (EMOP) in the valve body.
The EMOP generates the hydraulic force which is used to engage C1 Clutch during an idling stop state. This smoothens
the transition from stopped engine to driving state.

8 Wireless Charging
The Scorpio-N is equipped with the wireless charger on the center console.
The wireless charger enables the user to charge a compatible smartphone on the go and eliminates the hassle of carrying
& connecting the charging cable.
Wireless charging is based on inductive charging, whereby power is created by passing an electrical current through two
coils to create an electromagnetic field. When the receiving magnetic plate on the mobile device comes into contact with
the transmitter the magnetic field generates an electrical current within the device.
The Wireless charger will work during/ while ignition ON, cranking & engine ON. It will not work when the vehicle is in
accessory mode or ignition OFF.
NOTE –
• The wireless charging system is designed for smartphones compatible with ‘Qi’ wireless charging standard only
• It is recommended to place the phone on the center of the charger’s mat to start charging
• Do not place the key, coins, or any metallic object on the wireless charging mat. The charger detects if any foreign
metallic material or an NFC enabled card is placed on the mat. Accordingly, an alert is provided in the instrument
cluster and charging is stopped for safety reasons
• Always keep the charging mat dry.

17.1.3 SCR system
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is an advanced active emissions control technology system that injects a liquid-
reducing agent known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine.
The DEF sets off a chemical reaction that converts nitrogen oxides (NOX) present in the exhaust stream into Nitrogen (N2),
water and small amounts of Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Dosing Module
NOTE –
• DEF being highly erosive / corrosive in nature, clean immediately if spilled

17.1.3.1 DEF Filling Point
The Diesel Exhaust Fluid needs to be periodically
replenished in the system based on consumption.
The DEF filling port for the Scorpio-N is located
under LHS fuel flap near the fuel filling port.

17.1.3.2 Cooling System for the DEF dosing module
The Dosing Module of the SCR system is liquid cooled
to prevent overheating of the casing due to high Dosing module
exhaust temperature coolant outlet hose
NOTE –
• During the Engine OFF condition, EMS ECU
switches ON the electric water pump based on
the last measured exhaust gas temperature.
• The Electric Water pump will run for 20
minutes in following conditions:
o If the DPF Regeneration is interrupted
and the engine is switched OFF
o If the engine is switched off within 40
minutes of DPF regeneration process

recommended to only do so once the Electric Pump
Water Pump is OFF .
17.1.3.3 Tell -Tale/ Warning Associated with the SCR System/DEF
SCR warning lamp is illuminated in the instrument cluster whenever the system detects any anomaly which affects proper
functioning or monitoring of the SCR
The SCR warning lamp illuminates continuously until the necessary corrective action is taken
Along with the SCR warning lamp, alerts are displayed on the DIS
The SCR alerts are categorized in 3 groups i.e.
1. DEF LEVEL MONITORING
2. DEF QUALTIY MONITORING
3. SCR SYSTEM MALFUCNTION
Refer the ANNEXURE -1 for details regarding these alerts

20 Air Intake System
• The Air Intake System in the Scorpio-N Diesel is a Forced Induction Type.
• The system uses an electrically actuated Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT)
to compress the filtered air from the air cleaner.
• The compressed air passes into the intake manifold through the intercooler.
