1. JOB DETAILS:

Job Title: Senior Operator - Production

Job Reference No. : 40001036

Job Grade: O

Function: Upstream/ATA Production

2. JOB PURPOSE:
To perform assigned operational tasks across one or more defined operator roles within the
respective Operations Centre, adhering to established policies, procedures and standards to
ensure that work is completed according to plan, and supports the achievement of refinery
targets.

3. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Policies, Processes & Procedures


▪ Follows all relevant policies, processes, procedures and controls within the respective
Operations Centre so that procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while ensuring
high quality work is carried out safely and in a cost-effective and consistent manner.
Day-to-Day Operations
▪ Carries out day-to-day operations within the respective Operations Centre to ensure that
work processes are implemented as directed by the Shift Supervisor, whilst complying with
established policies, processes and procedures.
▪ Receives direction from the Shift Supervisor on activities to be performed, and ensures work
is completed in a timely and safe manner, in line with the required quality standards.
▪ Ensures timely escalation of any issues / problems to the Shift Supervisor in order to support
in timely corrective action.
▪ Reports all accidents, incidents and near-misses to the Shift Supervisor and assists in
incident investigation in order to avoid re-occurrence.
Routine Inspections
▪ Conducts daily inspections on the operating facilities that the role is responsible for within
the assigned Operations Centre, and takes samples, reports any risks and defects that are
detected, and takes corrective action as required in order to ensure the smooth running of
operations, and to maintain sustainable operating standards for all critical equipment.
Operations Plan Implementation
▪ Implements work tasks in accordance with the operations plan for the assigned facilities,
executing schedules in a timely manner whilst also maintaining the required levels of quality
in order to contribute to the achievement of production, financial and EHSFS objectives.
Administration and Housekeeping
▪ Maintains a daily log of all activities conducted during each shift, ensuring activities are
completed as per the shift checklist.

▪ Complies with the set housekeeping standards and procedures in order to ensure that the
Operations Centre is clean and hygienic.
▪ Participates in a shift handover meeting between incoming and outgoing shifts’ crews to
ensure a comprehensive handover of plant status and priority issues.
▪ Carries out simple isolations within the facility, ensuring adherence with isolation
requirements and operating procedures.
Safety, Quality & Environment
▪ Complies with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies,
procedures and controls in order to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance and a
responsible environmental attitude.
Related Assignments
▪ Performs other related duties or assignments as directed.

4. QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma (completion of technical secondary school) or equivalent, preferably with a
certification or training that will provide the individual with knowledge of the basic fundamentals of
alumina refinery.

Minimum Experience:

1 to 2 years of experience in a production plant is preferable.

Skills:

▪ Physical fitness and ability to work within plant work conditions.


▪ Knowledge of the assigned alumina refinery operating facility
▪ Ability to manage work tasks relating to operating facilities of low complexity within assigned
Operations Centre, with minimal supervision.
▪ Knowledge / experience of lean principles and tools
▪ Knowledge of continuous process operations
▪ Understanding of safety, quality and environmental management and control procedures
▪ Good communication skills
▪ Risk awareness
▪ Work under pressure with discretion, reliability and accuracy
▪ Basic troubleshooting ability and problem solving skills
