Welcome to this video on engines.

An engine is a machine that converts heat energy

into mechanical energy. In this video, we will discuss the different types of engines, their
working principles, and their common applications.

Engines can be broadly classified into two categories - thermal engines and non-thermal
engines.

Thermal engines convert heat energy into mechanical energy by burning fuel, whereas
non-thermal engines use sources of energy other than heat to generate motion. The
most common type of thermal engine is the internal combustion engine. This engine
works on the principle of burning fuel in a closed cylinder, which, in turn, pushes a piston,
generating mechanical energy. The internal combustion engine is used in cars,
motorcycles, airplanes, and boats.Another type of thermal engine is the steam engine.
This engine uses heat from burning coal, wood, or oil to create steam, which is then
used to power turbines or machinery. Steam engines were used extensively during the
industrial revolution and were the primary power source for factories and trains.

Next, let's talk about non-thermal engines. The most common type of non-thermal
engine is the electric motor. An electric motor converts electrical energy into
mechanical energy, such as when you plug in a power tool or use an electric car. Electric
vehicles are becoming increasingly popular due to their low carbon footprint and high
efficiency.Lastly, we have the hydraulic engine. This engine uses pressurized liquids,
such as water or oil, to generate mechanical energy. Hydraulic engines are commonly
used in heavy machinery, such as cranes, excavators, and bulldozers.

Engines have revolutionized the way we live our lives. From powering our cars and
machines to generating electricity and transporting goods, engines have changed the
course of human history. Today, there are many different types of engines, each with its
unique characteristics and applications. Understanding the principles of engines is not
only fascinating, but it can also help us make informed decisions about how we use
energy and resources in our daily lives. Thank you for watching.
