It is believed that allocating more funding to promote bicycle usage in urban areas is

essential but others argue that it is wise to invest heavily in developing alternative public
transport systems. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my standpoint.
Advocates for inreased expenditure on promoting bicycle usage argue that bicycles offer
numerous benefits for individuals and urban environments. Firstly, cycling is an
environmentally friendly mode of transportation that significantly reduces carbon
emissions compared to cars and buses. This can help mitigate air pollution, a pervasive
issue in many urban areas. Secondly, cycling promotes a healthier lifestyle, as it provides
regular physical exercise into individual’s daily commutes. Moreover, bicycles require
less space for parking and infrastructure, making them a practical solution for congested
urban areas.
Conversely, proponents of investment in public transport systems emphasize the critical
nature of these systems for managing the transportation needs of large urban populations.
Efficient public transport can alleviate traffic congestion, reduce commute times, and
decrease the reliance on personal vehicles. Modern, well-maintained public transport systems
can also provide a reliable and safe means of travel for individuals lacking access to a bicycle
or unable to cycle due to various reasons. Furthermore, public transport can boost economic
productivity by ensuring that workers can travel to and from their jobs effectively.
In a nutshell, both bicycles and social transport infrastructure are good alternatives to
improve transportation in cities. In my opinion, both approaches should be integrated
effectively to maximize transportation improvements in cities.
