I Need A Boat Man

All: I….need….a….boat, man, that’ll carry me away.
And how I hope, man, she’s sailing today.
You can see I got no suitcase, I’m travelin’ light.
Ain’t got no reason for stayin’ the night.

Choir A/B split: You don’t even have to tell me – where we’re sailin’ to,
All: Just as long as we are sailin’, sailin’, sailin’ into the blue………

Solo: Cast off that rope, man, man-handle those oars.

You name the price, man, an’ the money is yours.
Quit your delayin’, give your orders to the crew,

All: And take me sailin’ over the

Choir A/B split: deep blue sea with you – So help me,
All: Take me sailin’ over the deep blue sea with you……..

The Leaving Of Liverpool
Soloist 1: Fare thee well, the Prince’s landing stage, River Mersey, fare thee well,
For I’m bound for California, it’s a place that I know right well.
Chorus (Choir A/B parts): So fare thee well my own true love,
and when I return, united we will be,
It’s not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me,
but my darling when I think of thee.
Soloist 1+2: Well I’m bound for California by way of the stormy Cape Horn,
But you know I’ll write you a letter, my love, when I am homeward bound.
Chorus (Choir A/B parts): So fare thee well my own true love,
and when I return, united we will be,
It’s not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me,
but my darling when I think of thee.
Soloist 1+2+3: Oh the tug is waiting at the pier head, to take us down the stream,
Our sails are unfurled and our anchor is stowed, so fare thee well again.
Chorus (Choir A/B parts): So fare thee well my own true love,
and when I return, united we will be,
It’s not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me,
but my darling when I think of thee.

Men Of The Ocean

Choir A/B in parts: We weave the nets, we spin the line,
we carve the hooks to catch the fish we choose;
We know their wanderings, their times and seasons,
we know their food, the secret pools they use.
Group: We build the boats, we shape the oars,
we sew the sails to speed us on our way;
And when we sail away the stars will guide us,
and lead us home in safety to the bay.
Choir A/B in parts: We are the wise men of the ocean,
it is our master, our provider and our friend.
We are the wise men of the ocean,
All: and we accept the life the waters send.
Choir A/B in parts: We know the sea, we know its moods,
we know its strength could send us to our graves.
We’ve felt its gentleness, we’ve seen its beauty,
but we respect the anger of the waves.
Group: We trust the sea, we trust our skill,
we know that food is there both night and day.
The sea will feed us all, our sons and daughters,
until the day the oceans drains away.
Choir A/B in parts: We are the wise men of the ocean,
it is our master, our provider and our friend.
We are the wise men of the ocean,
All: and we accept the life the waters send.

Skye Boat Song
All: Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing, “Onward!” the sailors cry,
Carry the lad that’s born to be king, over the sea to Skye.

All: Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar, thunder claps rend the air.
Baffled, our foes stand on the shore, follow they will not dare.

Solo: Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing, “Onward!” the sailors cry,
Carry the lad that’s born to be king, over the sea to Skye.

All: Though the waves leap, soft shall ye sleep, ocean’s a royal bed.
Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep – watch by your weary head.

Solo: Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing, “Onward!” the sailors cry,
Carry the lad that’s born to be king…
All: Over the sea to Skye.

Ocean Commotion

All: Ocean commotion, catastrophe at sea,

Spoken solo: They lay the blame on me! (repeat these two lines)

Solo: When there’s been a big commotion way down underneath the ocean
Everybody lays the blame on me.
Someone drops in for a swim and hops right out without a limb,
And everybody lays the blame on me!

All: We’re sick of being picked on and we’re tired of snide remarks,
We’ve never heard a pleasant word about us poor old sharks.
But nothing could be ruder than a moody barra-cuda,
and the starfishes are vicious and cause fuss.
When lobsters are unhappy they get horrible and snappy,
All the same they always lay the blame on us!

All: We’re sick of being picked on and we’re tired of snide remarks,
We’ve never heard a pleasant word about us poor old sharks.

Solo: Nowadays it’s trendy to be very dolphin friendly,

And the seals are quite appealing I agree.
They lock you up in jail if you so much as touch a whale,
But no-one ever thinks of saving poor old me!

All: We’re sick of being picked on and we’re tired of snide remarks,
We’ve never heard a pleasant word about us poor old sharks.
So when there’s been a big commotion way down underneath the ocean
Think before you lay the blame on us…….
We’re only doing what comes naturally……
So pick on other fishes in the sea.

All: NOT US! (Spoken)

Blue Whale
Chorus (all): Blue whale, living in the deep green sea,
Wish you could answer my questions, wish you could speak to me.

Group 1: If you’re so smart, how can it be you play all day beneath the sea,
While we must strive to stay alive, working from nine to five.

Chorus (all): Blue whale, living in the deep green sea,

Wish you could answer my questions, wish you could speak to me.

Group 2: If you’re so bright, then tell me why you can’t fly missiles in the sky,
You haven’t joined the human race and put a whale in space.

Chorus (all): Blue whale, living in the deep green sea,

Wish you could answer my questions, wish you could speak to me.

All: If you’re as clever as they say, how come you never stay away –
From whaling boats when they attack? Why do you not fight back?!

Chorus (all): (Group singers to sing descant part to “Ah” over the sung chorus)
Blue whale, living in the deep green sea,
Wish you could answer my questions, wish you could speak to me.
