I was born and raised Kashmir- the largest and most militarized region
of the world. Perusing education in an environment that is under
violence and conflict time and again has been challenging. The conflict has undermined the ideas, ambitions and prospects of what the future holds for Kashmiri people. Regular massacres, lockdowns and frequent internet shut downs are quite a few challenges to name. Despite the many challenges I faced, I managed to pass my class 10th in 2016 with 92% and class 12th in 2018 with 81%. My interest in the field of science stems from the fact I was always fascinated by the complexity offered by nature and living systems .In 2012,I was really captivated when I heard about how pashimna imports from china to Kashmir were significantly reduced by creating hybrid goat named “Noori” locally . It was the first pashmina goat to be cloned by researchers at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir using the process of nuclear transfer.Likewise, I too wanted to have a scientific career integrated with technology that would provide me enormous opportunities for making people’s lives easier and would in turn help me in serving the society. I recently passed my BSc in biotechnology from Jamia Hamdard university,New Delhi with 82.8% .The practical work and projects in my graduation provided me a sturdy base for career advancement. In my graduate studies I have also actively participated in several extracurricular activities. Moreover, the crisis created by ongoing pandemic which has infected more than 3.3 million people worldwide has made me realize the significance of scientific research even more. Everything that matters now is affected by science and scientists interpreting science in one way and another. The idea of making a difference by impacting people's lives positively is what motivates me chiefly. Every aspect of biotechnology intrigues me and I look forward to delve into it and understand it in greater depth. I chose UK for my masters because Universities in the UK have the top- notch educational standards in the world and also degrees earned from the UK are recognized worldwide and are preferred by employers all over the world. Universities in the UK have excellent lab infrastructure, diverse student community, offer deep mentoring and conduct regular scientific seminars and workshops. This unquestionably provides a student enough expertise necessary for having a scientific career as well as helps in his/her overall personality development. Besides, leading pharmaceutical companies of the world such as GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson &Johnson, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer etc have tie-ups with many universities in the UK and offer sandwich placements. Apart from theoretical knowledge, universities in the UK also focus on practical oriented learning as well. I selected Queen’s University Belfast because it is a member of the prestigious “Russell Group”. It also has an excellent reputation in Biological and medical sciences. I really find researches done by researchers from QUB fascinating for example “Drug delivery system crafted from frog nest foam”. I believe “MSc Molecular Biotechnology and Biotechnology” at Queen’s University Belfast meshes well with what I am looking for in a program. This program will help me in gaining hands on experience as QUB has state-of-the-art technology blended with the satisfaction of learning from excellent research professionals.. Moreover, QUB is a multicultural creative hub having more than 200 interesting clubs such as “Queen’s International Student Society (QISS)”, “Biosciences Society”, “Belfast Marrow” etc. Clubs like these give multiple opportunities for overall personal as well as professional growth. I am sure that, if admitted, I would be an excellent addition to your student community, would meet your expectations and fulfill my goals. Thank you for considering my application.
