Precautions during Installation, Testing and Commissioning.

Prior to commencing installation of the control panel, ensure that adequate precautions are taken to
prevent damage to the sensitive electronic components on the control board due to electrostatic
discharge. You should discharge any static electricity you may have accumulated by touching a
convenient earthed object such as an unpainted copper radiator pipe. You should repeat the process
at regular intervals during the installation process, especially if you are required to walk over
carpets.
Batteries are electrically live at all times, take great care never to short circuit the
Battery terminals.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY:

The volt-free relay contacts provided within the panel must not be used to directly switch any
voltage that exceeds 30 Vdc,@2 Amps and 30Vac @ 0.5 amps. Maximum. Only resistive
loads are permitted by our control relays. (Please also refer to relay rating data).

This equipment requires a 230V AC supply.

Pre-Commissioning Wiring Check

NOTE: This pre-commissioning wiring check procedure should be followed in order to test all wiring
prior to specific commissioning of any detection, alarm and auxiliary circuits.

The following assumes that the control panel has been installed in accordance with the installation
procedure. Do not connect field wiring at this stage.

 Before switching on the panel make sure that the solenoid head is disconnected and the
cylinder is safe from accidental discharge.
 Ensure that no devices are connected to the zone / loop and alarm circuits but the cables are
linked through at the device locations to achieve a continuous circuit.
 Ensure that resistance of all cables to earth and between cores is more than 1M.
 Correct polarity throughout all circuits must be maintained. Rectify any faults.
 A room pressurization test shall be conducted, in each protected space, to determine the
presence of opening which would affect the agent concentration levels. The test shall be
conducted using the Door Fan system or equivalent with integrated computer program. All
testing shall be in accordance with NFPA 2001 Appendix C.

 All bells, detector heads and call points should now be connected. Remember to remove any
links fitted to detector bases. Be very careful to maintain correct polarity at each device.
Alarm Circuits

After completion of the pre-commissioning wiring check, the following procedure should be
followed:
 Connect the first alarm circuit wiring to the terminals, observing correct polarity. Check that
any alarm fault indications clear after a few seconds.
 Simulate an alarm condition from any detector/ device or from panel. Check that all sounders
connected to the alarm circuit operate.
 Press the “Silence” switch and check that the alarms silence.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 for the remaining alarm circuits.
Zone Circuits

 Remove the jumper from the zone 1 terminals and connect the cables of the zone 1 circuit to
the panel terminals, observing the correct polarity. Check that any zone fault indications clear
after a few seconds. Continue with other zones as mentioned
 Check that the loop detection circuits are monitoring the wiring for faults correctly. To do this
the wiring on the zone detection circuits must be placed into the following conditions:
a) Open circuit
b) Short circuit
 Check that the zone detection circuits are monitoring the wiring for faults correctly.

INTEGRITY TESTING

1 General

A room pressurization test shall be conducted, in each protected space, to determine the
presence of opening which would affect the agent concentration levels. The test shall be
conducted using the Door Fan system or equivalent with integrated computer program. All
testing shall be in accordance with NFPA 2001 Appendix C.

2 Evaluation

The enclosure and immediate surrounding area is initially examined visually to assess All
doors outside the area that are require to be open for the test are wedged open with suitable notices
posted to advise personnel. Where void are protected by FM 200,1% of floor and ceiling tile are
remove to ensure a uniform air flow.

The enclosure is put in the state it would be inn prior to a discharge, e.g. ventilation system
shut down, dampers closed, etc.

4 Door Fan Installation

A door fan unit is installed in the designated test door in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instruction.

The gauge are zeroed by taking them to full scale deflection and holding for approximately
ten seconds, after which the gage are gently tapped and erode.

5 Enclosure Evaluation

5

METHOD STATEMENT

Method statement for installation and testing and commissioning of fire fighting system.

Static pressure Measurement

With door fan equipment fully installed and with all openings closed, a measurement of
any pressure difference between the enclosure and the relief area is made. If the measurement is
greater than 25% of column pressure its causes are ascertained and if possible permanently reduce or
eliminated.

Total Enclosure Method

Calculate column pressure and column pressure plus 30% shall be created using an adequate range of
one fan or a number of fans. The pressure difference, and the air flow required to generate this, is then
recorded. This is carried out for both pressurization and depressurization mode. The total equivalent
leakage area and the retention time are calculated.

A. Calculation

A portable computer is used to collate the data and calculate the values. The associated printer
provides a detailed hard copy of the data on site.

B. Leakage Location
If the enclosure fails the test, an inspection of the enclosure with the door fan running can be made.
This makes it possible to locate the source of any leakage by using cool chemical smoke.

After completing the test generate report and submit to the consultant for approval.

6. Field calibration Test

 To verify the calibration of the equipment used, field calibration to be conducted.

 Check the ELA in the generated report
 Make a measured hole in the enclosure
 Conduct test again
 Compare the ELA in the new generated report ,the value shall be the sum of the initial ELA
and the new ELA and the value can be up to +15% of the sum, if it exceeds the apparatus
shall be recalibrated.
COMMISSIONING
Checklist
1. A flow test using nitrogen or Inert gas shall be performed to verify that flow is continuous and
that piping and nozzles are unobstructed.

2. Check that the installation confirms to the approved drawings

3. Physically check all PCBs are secured in their mounting inside the control panel
4. Check all ribbon cables are secured and correctly terminated
5. Apply the mains power and insert the mains fuse then connect the backup batteries.
6. Panel starts with the panel buzzer ON for sometime then the initialization starts for the panel
and also the data checks
7. Check the following fault conditions as, Mains failure, battery failure, open circuit, short
circuit, and detector removal tests for fault simulation.

8. Operate(using By Detector testing kit) the first detection zone(Smoke/Heat) and check the
following:
a. The corresponding device gets activated
b. The internal buzzer sounds
c. The first stage alarm sounds inside the protected room and the visual indicator lights with
indication “EVACUATE NOW, GAS DISCHARGE”
9. Operate (By Detector testing Kit) the second detection zone (Smoke/Heat) and check the
following,
a) The corresponding device gets activated.
b) Internal buzzer sounds.
c) The second stage alarm starts i.e. both the internal and external sounders / strobes/ bells
get activated.
d) The visual indicator installed on top of the door outside the protected area gets activated
and displays “DO NOT ENTER, GAS DISCHARGED”

e) The timer starts counting from 0 to 30 which corresponds to a time delay of 30 seconds.
This timer can be adjusted with a minimum time delay of 20 sec as required by QCDD.
f) During the time delay period press the abort switch installed near the door inside the
protected premises and observe that the timer stops its counter and stays still as long as
the button is pressed. When the button is released the counter starts from the paused
counter and will move up to the programmed delay time and the solenoid gets activated.
g) Check that the extinguishing panel communicates with the main fire alarm panel as per
the requirement.
h) Test all the front panel keys for its proper operation as SILENCE,RESET keys

Interfacing and termination to the third party equipments would be done by others. We would
be providing dry contact relays for controlling third party equipments according to our relay
specifications as 30 Vdc,@2 Amps and 30Vac @ 0.5 amps Maximum. Only resistive loads are
permitted by our control relays. Also we would accept third party signals from dry contacts
(voltage free contacts) for interfacing to our fire alarm panel as per the requirements and cause
effect matrix.
