Title: Exploring the Relationship between Social Media Usage and Academic Performance

among University Students

Problem Statement:

To investigate the correlation between social media usage and academic performance to better

understand its effects on students' academic achievements.

Research Questions:

1. Is there a correlation between social media usage and academic performance (GPA) among

university students?

2. Does the amount of time spent on social media predict academic performance?

3. Is there a difference in social media usage and academic performance between male and

female students?

Hypothesis:

- There is a negative correlation between social media usage and academic performance (GPA)

among university students.

The amount of time spent on social media will predict lower academic performance.

- Male students will spend more time on social media than female students, leading to poorer

academic performance.

Methodology:

- Participants: 2 university students ( males, females) aged 18-25

- Data Collection: Survey questionnaire and existing GPA data from university records

- Measures: Social Media Use Questionnaire (SMUQ) and GPA

- Data Analysis: Correlation analysis, regression analysis, and independent samples t-test

Significance:

This study will contribute to the understanding of the relationship between social media usage

and academic performance, providing insights for educators, policymakers, and students to make

informed decisions about social media use and its impact on academic achievements.
