1. M.P Finalizes Preparations for Second Cheetah Habitat at Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary
The Madhya Pradesh government has completed preparations for its ambitious Cheetah
reintroduction project in Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is the second home for
leopards in India after Kuno National Park.
Leopard Project
▪ Phase-I of the project to restore the population of endangered Cheetah in the country in 1952 began in 2022.
▪ This includes the relocation of Cheetah from South Africa and Namibia to Kuno National Park.
▪ The project has been implemented by NTCA in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh Forest Department, and Wildlife
Institute of India (WII).
▪ India is considering sourcing Cheetah from Kenya under Phase-II of the project due to similar habitats.
▪ The Cheetah will be shifted to Kuno National Park and Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary (Madhya Pradesh).
▪ Status of SDG goals: Only 30% of SDG goals are on track or achieved.
o There is limited progress in the other 40% of the targets and the situation is worsening in about 30%
of the targets.
▪ Average performance of SDGs:- High performance has been observed in achieving SDG 1, SDG 4, SDG
12 and SDG 13.
Cost of Vadhavan Port:- The total cost of the Vadhavan project is Rs 76,220 crore. This includes land acquisition
cost, development of key infrastructure, terminals and other commercial infrastructure. The project will be built on public-
private partnership (PPP).
Importance of Wadhwan Port:- The port being developed on the west coast of India will be a modern port with all
facilities to increase foreign trade. The port is expected to boost foreign trade through the proposed IMEEC (India Middle
East Europe Economic Corridor) and INSTC (International North South Transport Corridor).

• The Wadhawan port, India' s largest deep draft port, will be built at Wadhawan in Palghar district of
Maharashtra.
• The Maharashtra Maritime Board will build the Wadhawan port in Maharashtra in a joint venture with the
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority Company.
• The total cost of the Vadhavan port to be built in Maharashtra is Rs.76,220 crore.
"The National Forensic Infrastructure Augmentation Scheme (NFIES) will consist of three components:
• Construction of National University of Legal Sciences (NFSU) campuses in the country.
• Establishment of Central Forensic Science Laboratories across the country.
• Strengthening the existing infrastructure of NFSU's Delhi campus.
Financial Expenses for NFIES:- The Central Government has sanctioned Rs.2254.43 crore for the National
Forensic Infrastructure Development Project . The funding for the project comes from the budget allocation to the
Union Home Ministry.
NFIES Period:- The duration of the National Forensic Infrastructure Augmentation Project is five years, i.e. from 2024-
25 to 2028-29.

➢ The Government of India has launched the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) central
scheme to strengthen the forensic infrastructure in the country.
➢ The National Forensic Infrastructure Augmentation Scheme (NFIES) of the Central Government will be

Global Energy Conversion Index 2024
According to the Global Energy Transformation Index released by the World
Economic Forum (WEF) on 19 June 2024, India ranks 63rd out of 120 countries
surveyed on the index. Last year, India was ranked 67th, an improvement of three
ranks.
• Like last year, Sweden is again at the top of the index.
• According to the WEF, India has shown significant improvement across energy equity, security and
sustainability.
➢ European countries dominate the top tier of the 2024 Global Energy Transformation Index. Sweden topped the index,
followed by Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and France.
➢ According to the WEF, 107 of the 120 countries have demonstrated progress in their energy transformation journey over the
past decade. However, the pace of energy transition has slowed down due to economic volatility, increased
geopolitical tensions and technological shifts.
➢ India and China, which account for roughly one-third of the global population, play a crucial role in the global energy transition,
the WEF report says.
World Economic Forum:- The World Economic Forum was established in 1971 as a non-profit international
organization by German economist Klaus Schwab to provide a platform to promote collaboration among all
stakeholders of global society to find common solutions to global problems.
➢ The annual report titled 'Fostering Effective Energy Conversion' will be released by the World Economic
Forum in partnership with Accenture.
