Hardware Installation Guide, DOC-600.
2. AIT Readers
AIT readers are used for asset tracking. The reader/antenna is connected to a Wiegand data converter and
attached directly to a reader interface module. The Wiegand converter changes the data from RS-485 to a
standard Wiegand data string. This allows the software to function with these readers and cards. The reader
can effectively read the assets up to 45 feet from the reader using asset tags L-TG100 and L-TG200.

3. AWID Readers
Use the following diagrams to wire (single wire LED control) Single/Dual Reader Interface Modules and
AWID Sentinel readers.
If a Sentinel Prox reader is disconnected from the power supply and then reconnected, the readers will not
read the initial card presented. Subsequent cards will be read as usual.
This reader has an input current ranging from 250 to 650 mA. The reader distance also varies according to
the current, from 15 to 25 inches. Due to this input current, the reader will need to be run off a dedicated
power supply.

The BAI (BA-200) Barcode reader supports an Wiegand output format of 26, 30, and 31 bits. The reader
will support the following barcode formats: 10 digit interleave 2 of 5 barcode, 8 digit interleave 2 of 5
barcode, proprietary format called AFC, and 5 character code 39 barcode. For test purposes, there were no
setup modifications made. We used all pre-set factory default settings. There are two LED's on the outside
of the reader. The amber light shows that there is power connected to the reader, and the green light will
come on when there is a valid card read. The current firmware revision is 1006.

These readers are available in two styles: 3 x 4 keypads (part number 39201303) and 2 x 6 keypads (part
number 39201302).
The reader requires a 12/24 V, AC or DC power source, and has a current draw of 10 mA. Therefore, the
reader can be powered directly from either of the reader interface modules.
The reader features a 2-Wire LED configuration. If the LED support for this keypad is not being used, omit
the connections for those two wires. The reader is using a standard 8-bit output format.
Important: If connecting two readers to one interface module, make sure that the LED
control is connected for only one reader. Both reader LEDs can not be connected
at the same time.

readers operate at 5-24 VDC. The typical current draw is 75 mA.
The 16 position rotary switch will control the formats of the reader and should be set to 0. Position 0 is ABA
HID – all bits ABA, no leading or trailing zeros, Wiegand output. For HID prox, the number of output bits
on the card are not defined by selector switch.

This reader tamper output is an is an open collector transistor. When the reader’s cover is installed, the
transistor is off and the tamper output is floating. When the reader’s cover is removed, the transistor is on
and the tamper output is 0 V or ground.
Note: Use a volt meter to determine which input is the low or high side. The voltage measured on the
low side input is approximately 0.6 V. The voltage measured on the high side input is
approximately 7.6 V.
The reader tamper output can be monitored as an unsupervised circuit or as a supervised circuit.
Unsupervised Circuit
Install a 1K, 1% ohm resister across the input and connect the tamper output to the high side of an alarm
input. Configure the input to be an unsupervised, normally open contact (icvt_num=1).

The EntryProx is a standalone reader. It is ideal for providing single-door proximity access control.
In this configuration, the keypad does not send separate key data. When the keypad is used, it outputs the
cardholder/badge ID number.
The system transmits keypad PINs while operating in Wiegand mode by processing any digit sequence
terminated with the [*] key as 26-bit Wiegand data. The current facility code (set using Code 32 - 2) will be
used. Entering any PIN over 65535 will cause an error condition and no data will be sent.
Because keypad data is sent in a card data format, it may not be possible to perform card and PIN operation.
If 26-bit format as PIN data cannot be interpreted, be sure to enter it into the badge ID field, and not the
keypad PIN number field.

Models 6100BKP through 6181BKP are supported. To use OSDP readers with OnGuard, version 5.12.110
or higher is required. Only Series 2 and Series 3 reader ports offer OSDP support.
To ensure that the reader properly interprets data, create a communication bias by placing a 1K ohm resistor
to pull down the DAT/DO signal to the GND signal. For the communication bias to function properly, there
must be no ground faults in the installation. Ensure that the DC ground (power supply return) is not
connected to earth ground.
Depending on the serial number range and hardware revision, versions of the LNL-1300 Series 3 and
LNL-1320 Series 3 will ship with the communication bias resistor pre-installed on the board. As a result, the
1K ohm resistor will not need to be manually installed. For more information, refer to LNL-1300 Series 3/
LNL-1320 Series 3 Identification Table on page 119..
For example, the following product label identifies an LNL-1300 Series 3 that does not have the bias resistor
pre-installed.

Note: For information on configuring the IDEMIA MorphoAccess Reader for OSDP biometrics
(template stored on the access control panel), refer to Chapter B: IDEMIA MorphoAccess
SIGMA Series Reader in OSDP Biometric Mode.
The MorphoAccess® SIGMA reader can be used as either an alternate reader for Bioscrypt fingerprint
templates identification, or as a primary reader for reading DESFire EV1 cards encoded with the Open
Encoding Standard (DESFire) application and OpenCapture fingerprint templates. In this case, the
MorphoAccess SIGMA reader is connected to OnGuard via Ethernet.
In order to use the MorphoAccess SIGMA Series reader as a Bioscrypt fingerprint identification terminal,
configure it in System Administration as an alternate reader that is linked to a primary reader.
24.1.1 Wiring
Use AWG20 for 12V power supply when a POE supply is not used. The voltage specified is the one
measured on the product block connector: 12-24VDC (-15% / +10%).
TR+ RS_TX+
TR- RS_TX-
Serial communication must be set correctly. In order to configure this in SecureAdmin, complete the
following steps:
1. On the terminal touchscreen, touch the key lock icon to log onto the device.
2. Enter the device password in the keypad field, and then touch the check mark icon. By default, the login
password of the terminal is set as "12345".
3. Set the correct Protocol Configuration: Legacy L1.
a. Touch the System menu icon.
b. From the System menu, select First Boot Assistant.
c. Go to Protocol Configuration, and then select "Legacy L1" for Bioscrypt 4G Series Legacy Mode
terminals.

In order to read the Open Encoding Standard (DESFire) smart card and authenticate the cardholder
fingerprints, the MorphoAccess SIGMA Series reader and application key settings must be configured using
MorphoBioToolbox. For information about configuring the Open Encoding Standard (DESFire) smart card
format in OnGuard, refer to the "Open Encoding Standard (DESFire) Card Format Form" in the System
Administration and ID Credential Center User Guides.
Supported versions: MorphoAccess SIGMA Series Terminal firmware release 1.3.9 and the installation of
MorphoBioToolbox software.
Notes: MorphoAccess SIGMA Series readers only support the "AES" cryptographic method. Make
sure the Application Key type (AES) and Communication mode (Enciphered) configured for
the Open Encoding Standard (DESFire) card format in OnGuard match the corresponding
settings on the reader.
In addition, the Application File read key configured for the Open Encoding Standard
(DESFire) card format must match the corresponding key on the MorphoAccess SIGMA
Series reader in order to read the card.
revision 13 — 155
MorphoAccess SIGMA Series Reader
Complete the following steps to configure the reader and the application read key.
1. Install MorphoBioToolbox.
2. Upgrade to MorphoAccess SIGMA Series firmware version 1.3.9. From MorphoBioToolbox, connect
to the reader, select the Device Settings (from left menu), and then the Firmware Upgrade tab. Browse
to a local copy of the firmware, and then click [Upgrade]. The reader firmware is located in the
Credential Center Device Drivers\Sagem Morpho folder on the Supplemental Materials media.
3. From MorphoBioToolbox, configure the reader with the appropriate settings for reading the Open
Encoding Standard (DESFire) application.
a. Go to the Key Configuration screen.
b. Click [Local Configuration] > Load, and then navigate to and choose the OES DESFire
Configuration.xml file. The OES DESFire Configuration.xml file is located in the Credential
Center Device Drivers\Sagem Morpho folder on the Supplemental Materials media. This action
only updates the local database, but not the reader.
c. Click [Device Configuration] > Write to save the imported changes to the reader.
4. Configure events.
a. From Device Settings, select Events configuration.
b. Enable Send to controller for the following events:
– User control successful
– Biometric mismatch
5. Add the pass-through Wiegand output format.
a. From Quick Configuration, select Controller Quick Configuration.
b. Click [Custom Wiegand Settings] to open the Custom Wiegand Settings dialog.
c. Select a custom Wiegand format such as "Custom slot 0" to match with step 6a.
d. Enter a name for the card format and the length of the Wiegand data that will be encoded on the
cards in BOTH Length fields. Length should match the length of the Access control card format
configured for the Open Encoding Standard (DESFire) card format in the OnGuard software.
e. Leave all other fields at their default value.
f. Click [Write] to save these settings, and then close the Custom Wiegand Settings dialog.
6. Back on the Wiegand Settings screen, click [Read] to read the Wiegand format you just saved to the
reader.
a. Enable Active wiegand output, and then select "Custom slot 0" (or the other custom format
created in step 5c) for Verification pass and Identification pass (if using this functionality).
b. If the Wiegand format you are encoding has an Issue code field, then biometric mismatch is
supported. In order to configure this, make sure to select the same Wiegand format (Custom slot 0)
is used for Verification fail and Identification fail (if using this functionality). Otherwise, leave
this as "None".
c. Click [Write] to save these settings to the reader.

2 off
3 ON
4 ON
5 ON
6 off
7 ON
8 ON
For this reader to work properly with OnGuard, the reader must programmed via the Comm Board using a
terminal connection. A null modem cable is required to program the Nedap reader. The command, SC532,
must be programmed into the firmware to set the inter-ID delay on the combi-booster to 0.5 seconds to
distinguish between the two IDs.
Combi-boosters combine a vehicle ID with a driver ID. Both ID numbers may be sent in a separate event
message to the host computer. The delay between the two messages can be set with this timer. The vehicle
ID is always transmitted first. The second event message, which contains the driver ID, must be set to a 0.5
second delay to work with the software. Timer values are stored in EEPROM and are only lost when a “reset
reader” command is performed.
1. Connect a null modem cable to the 25-pin female connector on the Comm Board inside the Nedap
Reader, and connect the DB-9 end to an open communications port on a PC.
2. Using HyperTerminal, configure the following:

At least one reader must be configured for use as an enrollment reader for biometric infor-mation for
cardholders. The enrollment reader should be connected directly to the host PC via RS-232 (RJ-45)
communication. For the HandKey CR (version F3), a custom cable is provided that connects to the 4-pin
Molex connector on the left side of the PCB and to a DB-9 serial input on the enrollment station PC.
HandKey CR readers with firmware revision A.2xx have a 3-pin enrollment RS-232 connector which
should be connected to a host machine COM port as follows:

OSDP BIOMETRIC
READERS
Alternative Reader Wiring Guide
Note: The information in this chapter applies to any brand or model of OSDP biometric reader.
OnGuard 7.3 and later provides support for Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) biometric readers.
These readers follow the Security Industry Association (SIA) OSDP standard for reader communications
and the transfer of biometric templates to the reader when a credential is presented. The templates used are
captured in the industry standard ANSI/INCITS 378 minutiae format, using the OnGuard OpenCapture
license.
The use of a standard protocol and a standard template allows the installation of biometric readers from
multiple vendors on the same system, without unique biometric capture requirements for each. This mode of
operation does not require separate software for capture or template distribution. All functions except reader
hardware configuration are handled by OnGuard.
It is possible to use the OSDP protocol for biometric readers without using panel-based biometrics. This
might be done if the templates are stored on a smart card, or if the templates are distributed to the readers
using vendor-supplied software other than OnGuard. In this case, the reader is not configured in OnGuard as
an OSDP biometric reader, and the contents of this chapter do not apply.
This section describes how biometric data is captured and stored in the OnGuard database, and then how that
biometric data is used when the cardholder uses an OSDP biometric reader connected to the building’s
access control system.
1. The cardholders’ biometric data is captured using a USB capture device connected to an OnGuard client
workstation.
2. The OnGuard Server converts the biometric data into an ANSI/INCITS 378 or PKCOMP minutiae
template.
3. The template is stored in the OnGuard database on the server.
1. The cardholders’ templates are downloaded and stored on the appropriate LenelS2 access control
panels.
2. When cardholders present their credentials (badge, PIN, or both), their OSDP biometric record is
retrieved from the access control panel and sent to the biometric reader using OSDP communications
(preferably encrypted, if possible).
revision 13 — 237
General OSDP Biometric Reader Information
Notes: The OSDP biometric record is not stored permanently on the reader. Once the access request
event is complete, the OSDP biometric record is purged from the reader.
Supported access control panels:
LNL-2210, LNL-X2210, LNL-2220, LNL-X2220,
LNL-3300, LNL-X3300, LNL-4420, and LNL-X4420.
Supported Reader Interface Modules:
LNL-1300-S3, LNL-1320-S3, LNL-1300e, and LNL-1324e.
3. The OSDP biometric reader prompts cardholders to present their finger at the reader.
4. The OSDP biometric reader compares the finger reading to the template, and reports the result to the
LenelS2 access control panel using OSDP communications.
5. If the finger reading matches the template, the LenelS2 access control panel decides, based on the
cardholder’s access level, whether or not to grant access.
6. The controller sends feedback to the OSDP reader using OSDP communications so that the reader can
light the appropriate LED color, display information on the LCD, and produce the appropriate feedback
sound.
The following limitations exist when using OSDP biometric readers with OnGuard 7.5 and later:
• Support for only one biometric template per cardholder. No secondary or duress biometric is
supported by OnGuard. If more than one biometric template is stored, only the one designated as
Primary is downloaded.
• Only 1:1 biometric verification is supported. A card or PIN is required to look up the biometric
template. OSDP does not support 1:n biometric identification.

Administration > Administration > Segments), on the Biometrics tab:
In System Administration > Access Control > Access Panels, on the access panel’s Options sub-tab:
• Set the OSDP biometrics field to Fingerprint (INCITS 378) large for systems with any Morpho
MSO-3xx devices installed.
• Set the OSDP biometrics field to Fingerprint (INCITS 378) small for systems only using Morpho
MSO-1300 devices.
revision 13 — 239
General OSDP Biometric Reader Information
Note: In OnGuard versions earlier than 7.5 Update 1, a license for either Bioscrypt or Handkey
biometrics is required if you want the templates to download to the access control panels
automatically after capture. Without this license, you must perform a panel download
manually to send the new templates to the panel.
Follow these steps to allow authorized OnGuard users to capture ANSI/INCITS 378 biometric templates for
cardholders, and then download these templates to the designated access panels:
1. After logging into System Administration with the SA account, go to Administration > Users.
2. On the Cardholder Permission Groups tab, modify the Cardholder Admin > Capture rights to
allow:
• Fingerprint (Bioscript)
• 10 print slap
• Hand geometry
3. Add the OSDP bioscript reader to the access level assigned to the badge.
4. Add or select the cardholder.
5. On the System Administration > Cardholders > Biometrics tab, select 10 Print Slap, and then click
[Capture].
6. Select the OpenCapture tab.
7. For the initial setup:

Note: In OnGuard versions earlier than 7.5 Update 1, a license for either Bioscrypt or Handkey
biometrics is required if you want the templates to download to the access control panels
automatically after capture. Without this license, you must perform a panel download
manually to send the new templates to the panel.
This section describes how OnGuard controls OSDP biometric readers after the readers are configured in the
system.
In Alarm Monitoring, you can enable or disable Reader Biometric Verify mode (with reader/PIN, if
available) using the Hardware Tree as well as from maps. For more information, refer to “Reader Biometric
Verify Mode” in the Alarm Monitoring User Guide.
In System Administration, you can control Biometric Verify (with reader/PIN, if available) from:
• Readers and Doors form: Use the Biometric Verify check-box in the Reader Modes area of the form.
• Timezone/Reader Modes form: Use the Verify Mode drop-down along with the Biometric Verify
check-box on the Readers and Doors form.
• Global I/O: Use the Global I/O folder and the Global Linkage form to enable or disable Biometric
Verify.
• Local I/O: Use Local I/O to control reader/PIN mode only on an OSDP reader. You cannot control
Biometric Verify using a Local I/O.

2. Install the MBTB software onto the workstation that you will use to configure the OSDP biometric
readers.
There are three options when connecting the configuration workstation to the reader for the first time:
1. Set the workstation’s Ethernet port to the 192.168.1.xxx subnet that will allow communication to the
reader’s default 192.168.1.10 address.
2. Set the reader’s IP address. For more information, refer to Set the Reader’s IP Address using a USB
Flash Drive on page 244.
On the SIGMA and Extreme models only, set the reader’s IP address using the front panel menus as
described in the reader’s documentation. The default password is 12345.
Before you begin, you will need a flash drive and the micro-to-USB cable that shipped with the reader.
1. On the Terminal Information tab, confirm that the reader’s firmware version is 4.5.5 or later.
244 — revision 13
Alternative Reader Wiring Guide
Notes: Contact LenelS2 OnGuard Technical Support to confirm the best firmware version of OSDP
operation. The firmware version listed on the IDEMIA site might not be the best version.
Always upgrade following these instructions, and don't skip versions.
Use the MBTB software to perform firmware upgrades on Sigma devices. All Sigma families
have their own upgrade files: Sigma, Sigma LITE, Sigma LITE+, and Sigma Extreme readers.
You must only upgrade to a later version. Never downgrade to an earlier version.
Sigma readers on version 1.x firmware must always be upgraded to version 1.8 TEMP before
upgrading them to version 3.3.2. Sigma LITE and LITE+ readers on version 2.x must be
upgraded to version 3.3.2.
Once a Sigma reader is using version 3.3.2 firmware, you can upgrade it to version 4.5.0 or
later.
You can download templates with the primary reader parameters already configured from the LenelS2
Partner Center (partner.lenel.com).
To select a template, you must know the reader type (BIO -no card reader, iCLASS, Prox, or Multi). Each
reader type has a different configuration file. The Multi reader type often requires custom configuration to
match a specific card type, formatting, and keys. Once the configuration file is loaded, you will see red or
pink lines on every parameter that will change.
Select Write. If an error dialog opens, click [OK] and then click the red [X]. The firmware and the model
determines which parameters will work. Once you have completed one template for the customer site, save
the file and use it for the remaining the readers at that customer site.
To load the template and some of the keys that will change:
