EXPLORIN

G THE
TRANQUIL
OF
RETREAT
AND THE
Action Plan
I started the project few days after the instructions of the mentor.
Choosing the place was quite difficult as every place I’ve visited
has awoken so many different emotions in me. So I chose what
was very easy for me to describe even though it was a long back –
Ooty and Kodaikanal – The most peaceful places I’ve ever visited
with heavenly views. Going through a trail of memories and back
to the past for a while, I wrote what we did during the journey,
the places we visited while their beauty was not left undescribed.
I went to my Gallery and took the pictures and I have attached
them too. Pouring my heart and soul in it, I’ve completed this
travelogue. So here goes my journey to tranquillity….
Exploring Kodaikanal: A Tranquil Retreat in the Western Ghats

Nestled in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, Kodaikanal emerges

as a serene haven, captivating travellers with its mist-laden hills,
lush greenery, and pristine lakes. My recent trip to this
enchanting hill station proved to be a rejuvenating escape from
the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Day 1: Arrival and Pine Forest Exploration

As I arrived in Kodaikanal, the crisp mountain air greeted me.

The journey from the plains to the hill station was adorned with
winding roads and breath-taking views. After settling into my
cozy cottage, I embarked on an exploration of the renowned Pine
Forest. Tall, majestic pine trees formed a canopy overhead,
casting dappled sunlight on the forest floor. The tranquillity of
the place was both calming and invigorating.

Day 2: Sunrise at Coaker's Walk and Boat Ride on Kodaikanal

Lake

The next morning, I woke up early to witness the sunrise at

Coaker's Walk. The panoramic view of the valleys below and the
rising sun painting the sky in hues of orange and pink left an
indelible impression. Later in the day, I headed to Kodaikanal
Lake for a leisurely boat ride. The shimmering waters surrounded
by lush green hills provided a perfect backdrop for relaxation.

Day 3: Pillar Rocks and Guna Cave Adventure

The day began with a visit to the Pillar Rocks, towering rock
formations that stand tall against the sky. The mist swirling
around the rocks added an element of mystery to the landscape.
In the afternoon, I explored the Guna Cave, a popular spot
among adventure seekers. The narrow passages and unique rock
formations inside the cave created an intriguing environment for
exploration.

Day 4: Silver Cascade Falls and Berijam Lake Excursion

My fourth day in Kodaikanal started with a visit to the Silver

Cascade Falls. The cascading waters amidst verdant
surroundings created a picturesque setting. In the afternoon, I
ventured to Berijam Lake, a serene reservoir surrounded by thick
forests. The calmness of the lake and the distant calls of birds
made it a perfect spot for quiet contemplation.

Day 5: Vattakanal and Echo Point

Vattakanal, a lesser-known gem near Kodaikanal, became the

focus of my fifth day. The scenic landscapes, vibrant shola
forests, and the offbeat charm of the village provided a unique
experience. In the evening, I visited Echo Point, where the hills
echoed back my laughter. The playful interaction with the
natural acoustics left me with a sense of joy.

Day 6: Bear Shola Falls Trek and Shopping in the Local Market

For an active start to my sixth day, I embarked on a trek to Bear

Shola Falls. The trek through the dense forest was rewarded by
the sight of a cascading waterfall in a secluded enclave. In the
afternoon, I explored the local market, indulging in shopping for
handmade crafts and local delicacies, adding a touch of the
region's culture to my journey.

Day 7: Departure with Fond Memories

As I bid farewell to Kodaikanal, I carried with me memories of

misty hills, shimmering lakes, and the warmth of the local
culture. This journey had been a soul-soothing experience, a
blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural exploration.
Kodaikanal, with its natural beauty and tranquillity, had cast a
spell on me, making it a destination I would cherish forever.
A Symphony of Serenity: A Sojourn Through Ooty's Enchanting
Landscapes

Nestled in the Nilgiri Hills of Southern India, Ooty, or

Udhagamandalam, emerges as a quintessential hill station,
captivating travellers with its misty mountains, emerald-green
valleys, and colonial charm. My recent expedition to this "Queen
of Hill Stations" unfolded a tale of scenic beauty, tea-scented air,
and a profound connection with nature.

Day 1: Arrival and Colonial Echoes

As the toy train chugged into the hill station, I was greeted by the
crisp mountain air and the timeless allure of colonial
architecture. Checking into a charming heritage hotel, I
embarked on an exploration of the town's colonial remnants—the
Victorian-style buildings, the historic churches, and the well-
preserved colonial-era market. The echo of a bygone era lingered
in the air, setting the tone for the cultural immersion that
awaited.

Day 2: Botanical Gardens and Tea Plantations

The morning sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of trees

as I strolled through the meticulously manicured landscapes of
the Government Botanical Gardens. The vibrant flower beds,
towering trees, and the aroma of exotic blooms created a sensory
feast. In the afternoon, I ventured into the verdant expanse of tea
plantations that cloaked the hillsides. The guided tour through
the tea factory provided insights into the artistry of tea
production, from plucking to packaging.

Day 3: Nilgiri Mountain Railway and Doddabetta Peak

Boarding the iconic Nilgiri Mountain Railway, I embarked on a

journey through undulating hills draped in mist. The rhythmic
clatter of the train wheels and the panoramic views through the
large windows made this UNESCO World Heritage Site a
mesmerizing experience. Arriving at the foothills, I then ascended
to Doddabetta, the highest peak in the Nilgiris. The breath-taking
view from the summit, with mist-shrouded valleys and distant
hills, made the ascent worthwhile.
Day 4: Ooty Lake and Rose Garden Retreat

The day commenced with a leisurely boat ride on Ooty Lake, its
placid waters reflecting the surrounding hills. The scenic beauty
was complemented by the lush Nilgiri landscape, creating a
tranquil setting. In the afternoon, I explored the vibrant hues of
the Government Rose Garden, home to thousands of rose
varieties. The fragrance of blooming roses permeated the air,
transforming the garden into a haven for relaxation and
introspection.

Day 5: Avalanche Lake Adventure and Tribal Tinge

A scenic drive took me to the secluded Avalanche Lake,

surrounded by dense forests and mist-kissed hills. The pristine
waters mirrored the azure sky, creating a picturesque tableau.
Engaging in water activities and trekking around the lake added
an adventurous twist to the day. Later, I delved into the tribal
heritage of the Nilgiris, interacting with the indigenous
communities and gaining insights into their traditions and way of
life.

Day 6: Coonoor Excursion and Sim's Park

Venturing beyond Ooty, I embarked on a short journey to

Coonoor, a neighbouring hill station. The Nilgiri hills unfolded in
panoramic glory during the scenic drive. In Coonoor, Sim's Park
welcomed me with its terraced landscapes adorned with a myriad
of plant species. The symphony of birdcalls and the vibrant floral
displays made it a delightful oasis in the heart of the hills.

Day 7: Departure with Gratitude

As my time in Ooty drew to a close, I revisited favourite spots and

bid farewell to the mist-laden hills. Ooty, with its timeless charm
and natural splendour, had etched a place in my heart. The
journey had been a harmonious blend of relaxation, adventure,
and cultural immersion—an ode to the allure of hill stations and
the serene beauty they offer.

In conclusion, my travelogue encapsulates the essence of Ooty—a

destination that transcends mere landscapes. It is a symphony of
serenity, where mist-clad hills, tea-scented breezes, and the
echoes of colonial history create a harmonious melody. Ooty
invites travellers to not just witness its beauty but to immerse
themselves in its tranquillity, fostering a deep connection with
nature and leaving indelible memories in the heart of every
visitor.
Reflection
While going back through the memories, I unleased so many of
my emotions. It was beautiful reminiscing those nostalgic
memories. Letting go of the past is only for the painful memories.
Beautiful memories stay in our mind rent-free. Those days – it
was so carefree. With not a care about the world, we all roamed
like lost puppies with exploration. So travelling back, this
travelogue helped me revisit those places and memories and
those little momentary joys and I am glad about that!
