Lincoln Electric Online Welding and Cutting
Course Description:
In this course students will learn the setup and proper use of Mig (GMAW), flux-core arc
(FCAW), and Arc (SMAW) equipment. Students will practice SMAW with cellulose and low-
hydrogen electrodes. Students will also perform welds using short circuit and spray transfer
methods. Students will learn theory, metallurgy, and electrode selection in this class. Welding
performance is held to the American Welding Society standards for performance and proper
weld profile.

Course Goals:
3. Create a structurally sound weld on various metals in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and
overhead positions.
1. Conduct welding and cutting operations within industrial standards for electrical safety.
Assessment Strategies:
Employability Skills- Safety, Work ethic, Housekeeping, and attitude will be graded every day
according to rubrics*
Assignments will be graded upon completion*
Projects will be graded per the rubric*
Tests will be a mix of practical welding skills and written exams*

Attendance Policy:
Attendance is required as it is directly related to the employability grade. Unexcused absences
will result in a zero grade for the employability grade. A parent/guardian needs to call to excuse
any absences (not sanctioned by the school) within 2 school days to excuse an absence. No
exceptions.
Cheating Policy:
Cheating on any assignment, whether in class or lab will not be tolerated. A student who is
caught cheating will receive zero points for the assignment and will not be allowed to make it up.
Post-Secondary Connections:
Upon successful of year one students are eligible for 16 credits at Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa
Community College. Upon successful completion of 2 years students are eligible to earn a
Welding Technology Certificate from Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College.
Safety Training:
Students must first complete the online 10-hour OSHA safety training before receiving safety
training on each individual piece of equipment. Students must pass safety training on a piece of
equipment before being allowed to use it.
Certifications:
Students will be eligible to earn American Welding Society certifications upon the successful
completion of testing.
