Foreword
Thanks for your selecting brand GZP500 multi function rotary tablet press. To
endure normal operation of this machine, please read this operation manual
carefully before opening the packing container and starting the machine. Any
actions not recommended in this manual may affect the machine operation or
result in personal safety.
1 Applications
1.1 The GZP500 rotary tablet press is mainly used in pharmaceutical,
foodstuff, chemical and electronic industries. The machine is used to press
various granular materials that meet the requirement for tablet pressing into
tablets.
1.2 The machine is suitable to the tablet pressing production with the granular
materials that contain less 10% of powder (over 100 meshes)
1.3 The machine is applicable for pressing round tablets, shaped and double-
sided letter-engraved tablets.
1.4 The machine is applicable for pressing single-layer tablets. In ordering the
machine, the customer should state clearly in the contract so that we can
adjust the machine according to the customer’s requirement and the
necessary spare parts and accessories can be supplied when the machine is
delivered form our factory.

3.4 To unpack the crate, remove the top plate and side plates of the
packing container first. There are M36 eyebolts lifting the machine in the
enclosure on the top of the machine. The following parts should be
remove; 1-hopper covers; 2-left and right hoppers; 3-M6 screws; 4-
hopper carriers; 5-M8 screws; and 6-top cover. When the eyebolts are
shown, lift the machine with a hoisting machine. The rated load of the
hoisting equipment should not be less than 4000kg. After unpacking the
crate, place the machine in the required location. Then mount the anti-
vibration pad.
3.5 In mounting the anti-vibration pad, screw out the adjusting screw first
and place the machine on the loading disk of the sizing block. Then
screw in the adjusting screw to the loading disk through the hole in the
bass plate of the machine. In leveling, put the level gauge on the working
surface of the turret and turn the adjusting screw in the direction of
inclination. After the level position has been correctly adjusted, tighten the
nut. Since creep deformation may occur to the anti-vibration rubber pad,
the level position should be readjusted in two weeks.
3.6 After unpacking the packing container, check and see if any machine

parts are loose or fall off or not. Check and see if the components in the
electric cabinet are in good order. Check and see if the items in the
packing container are those indicated in the packing list or not. If there is
any abnormality, please contact the manufacturer immediately.
3.7 If the machine is not in use for some time, it should be stored in a
well-sheltered and ventilated room with the relative humidity of less than
85%.
4.2 Connections
A number of rectangular sockets are provided on the left side of the
electric control console. The control console is connected with main and
auxiliary machine via connectors.
5 Main Structure
5.1 Upper Enclosure Unit
This unit is used to enclose the tablet pressing area so as to avoid the
flying dust and cross contamination effectively. Conforming to the GMP
requirements, the unit is equipped with transparent organic glass window
on its four sides so that the tablet pressing operation can be easily
observed. The silicon rubber is used as the sealing material for the sight
window and other parts contacting with machine parts. The sight window
is supported by an air spring via the connecting rod mechanism so that it

is easy to open, clean and maintain.
There is the pre-pressing unit for the first layer of tablet. The pre-pressing
pressure roller is supported on the pre-pressing pressure roller shaft. The
pre-pressing pressure roller shaft is eccentric. When the pre-pressing
pressure roller shaft is turned, the center of the pre-pressing pressure
roller will move up and down so as to control the feeding depth of the
upper punch in tablet pre-pressing.
There is the pre-pressing unit for the second layer (including the first
layer) of tablet. The structure and working principle is the same as that for
the first layer.
The upper guide rail seat is fixed on the upper pressure roller carrier.
The upper guide rail unit consists of upward guide rail of upper punch,
Upward parallel guide rail of upper punch, downward guide rail of upper
punch, downward parallel guide rail of upper punch, mounting and
dismounting rail of upper punch.
All the guide rails are mounted on the circumference of the upper guide
rail seat and fixed with screws.

dies are scattered uniformly on its circumference. The turret is keyed to
the main shaft and fixed on it with screws.
The main shaft is fixed in the lower guide rail seat through a pair of
tapered roller bearing. The lower end of the shaft is keyed to the worm
gear to transmit the power. A pair of bearing is mounted on the upper end
for positioning of the upper guide rail.
There are ball headed holding screws at the side of the middle die holes
of the turret to fix the dies. The seal rings are set on the lower die holes of
the turret. Lateral pins are provided for the punches of ring type and
double-side letter-engraved tablets.
The lower guide rail seat is fixed on the main body. The parts of the lower
guide rail are mounted on the top large surface.
The discharge port support is mounted on the feeder. The granule flow
into the feeder can be regulated by adjusting the distance between the
discharge port and the top surface of the turret.
Adopting an arc shaped grid type, the feeder is supported on the feeder
seat with the supporting plate and screws. The distance between the
feeder and the top of turret is adjustable. The tablet discharge chute is
fixed on the supporting base.
The powder suction mouth is located on the pressure roller where the
upper punch enters the die. When multi-layer tablets are pressed, power
suction pipe is equipped at the front of the feeder for each layer of tablet
to remove the fine power on the top surface of the turret left by the
previous feeding process.
The feeder seat, tablet discharge chute seat, power suction mouth, power
suction pipe holder are mounted on the top surface of the turret. On the
top surface of the turret, there is an annular guard plate inserted under

the turret to prevent the power from entering the lower guide rail and it is
very easy to clean.
The top surface is mounted on the front and rear enclosures. There is a
door at the each side of the enclosure for mounting and dismounting and
maintaining the lower guide rail and upper punches.
The mounting & dismounting guide rail of lower punch is mounted at the
exit of the downward guide rail of lower punch, used for mounting and
dismounting the lower punch.
The filling mechanism is used for adjustment of tablet weight. The filling
guide rail is mounted on the lifting rod. Connected with the worm shaft of
the worm gear pair with T threads, the lifting rod moves up and down
within the filling supporting seat through the rotation of the worm gear pair
so as to adjust the filling amount. The worn shaft is driven by a pair of
synchronous pulleys through adjustment of the hand wheel.
The upward guide rail of lower punch ejects the formed tablets from the
die cavity with the help of the lower punch. The highest point just is the
position where the tablets are discharged.
In view, the lower pressure roller is supported in the same way as the
upper pressure roller. It is supported on the lower pressure roller shaft
through the roller center and bearing. Adopting an eccentric structure, the
lower pressure roller is supported in the hole of the lower pressure roller
carrier. Its outer end is connected with the worm sector.
The tablet adjustment is performed with the hand wheel, which drives two
worm gear pairs. Then the worm sector makes the eccentric part of the
lower pressure roller shaft rotate and the lower pressure roller moves up
and down.

The lower pressure roller carrier is mounted on the main body.
The lower pre-pressing pressure roller is also supported in the same way
as the upper pre-pressing pressure roller. The tablet thickness
adjustment of the lower pre-pressing pressure roller is also performed
with the hand wheel, which drives two worm gear pair. Then the worm
sector makes the eccentric part of the lower pre-pressing pressure roller
shaft rotate and the lower pre-pressing pressure roller moves up and
down.
In the main drive part, a pair of synchronous pulleys drive the worm and
worm gear through an electric motor. Then the worm gears connecting
with the main shaft drives the turret to work.
The drive unit is enclosed with stainless steel doors so that it is very easy
to mount and dismount and maintain. An anti-vibration pad is mounted on
the base plate.

6 Adjustment and Operation
6.1 Mounting and Adjustment of Punches and Dies
The punches and dies are mounted on the left side of the machine. When
the left door at the lower part of the machine, the hand wheel for trial run
can be seen.
Before mounting the punches and dies, the power supply must be cut off
first. Remove the hopper and the feeder. Then remove the left enclosure
plate of the upper pressure roller carrier and the upper guide rail cover.
Open the doors at the middle and lower parts of the machine (the hand
wheel for trial run can be seen there) to clean the top surface of the
turret, die holes and the punches and dies to be mounted.

6.1.2 Mounting of Upper Punches
6.1.2.1 Mounting of Round Punches
Place the upper punch into the die hole to contact the mounting &
dismounting guide rail. Then turn the trail run hand wheel to get the next
die hole. Mount the upper punches one by one.
After the die has been mounted for the integral or detachable punch, the
upper punch should come into or go out from the die flexibly. There
should be no any collision and seizure existing. Then turn the hand wheel
to make the head of the upper punch get into the parallel guide rail. After
that, the next pair of upper pun and die can be mounted.
After the lower punch has entered the die, turn the hand wheel to get to
the next station. The nuts should be tightened first before the detachable
punch is mounted.

circumferentially or the core bar is positioned axially. The lower punch
should come into or go out from the die flexibly. There should be no any
collision and seizure existing.
After the lower punches have been mounted, mount the mounting &
dismounting guide rail timely and tighten the screws.
6.1.4 After all the punches and dies have been mounted, turn the hand
wheel to make the turret rotate 2~3 turns. Observe the operating
condition of the upper and lower punches entering the die holes and the
movement on the upper and lower guide rails. The movement should be
flexible and smooth. There should be no any collision or seizure existing.
6.1.5 Before starting the machine, the enclosure and door must be
mounted so as to ensure safety. Start the electric motor and let it run idly
for 5~10 minutes. The machine can be put into operation only when there
is no any abnormal phenomenon existing.
Different tablet holding bars are used for pressing single-layer and multi-
layer tablets. The tablet holding bar for multi-layer tablets also acts as the
powder suction bar.

6.4 Adjustment of Powder Flow Rate
The powder flow rate is controlled with the regulating valve under the
hopper or controlled via the distance between the outlet of the discharge
mouth and the top surface of the turret.
Pull out the hand wheel of the regulating valve. Turn the hand wheel after
it is disengaged with the positioning pin to adjust the size of the passage
in the pipe.
Turn the two adjusting nuts in the discharge port carrier to adjust the
height of the discharge port. Take care that the bottom of the discharge
port should not contact the turret so as to prevent the top surface of the
turret from being damaged. It is appropriate that the powder amount in
the feeder do not overflow during operation.
The feeding depth of the upper punch at the upper pre-pressing pressure
roller can also be adjusted according to the measuring scale. Loosen the
socket head cap screws and turn the pre-pressing pressure roller shaft
with a special spanner to adjust the feeding depth of the upper punch.
Remove the round hood on the upper pressure roller carrier, the pressure
regulating rod with graduation can be seen. Turn the adjusting nut to
adjust the amount of compression of the internal spring. Each mark of the

graduation indicates that the pressure increases or decreases by 10KN.
The pressure increases from left to right gradually. When there are more
marks of graduation shown, it means that the pressure is higher.
The selection of pressure depends on the tablet diameter and shape and
the material conditions.
The selection of the rotation speed of the turret should be based on the
properties of the material. A proper speed should be selected to ensure
the tablet quality. Usually, a lower speed can be selected for the large-
diameter tablets, high compression pressure and less compressible
materials. On the contrary, a higher speed can be selected.
7Maintenance
7.1 Lubrication of Machine
7.1.1 For the worm gear case, N46 machine oil is used. The proper filling
amount is that oil level should reach the height of a tooth face of the
worm. The oil level can be observed through the sight window of the
worm-gear case. Open the stainless steel door at the right side in the
middle of the machine and remove the screw plug on the top of the main
body to fill the worm-gear case with oil. Usually, the oil should be
replaced in about half a year. The oil drain hole is located at the bottom of
the worm-gear case.
7.1.2The bearing in the upper and lower pressure rollers are filled with
grease by the force-feed grease cup at the shaft end of the pressure
roller. Usually, grease should be filled once every week.
7.2 Inspect the machine parts regularly. Once or twice every month.
Check and see if all the moving parts rotate flexibly or not and if they are

worn out or not, including the worm gear pairs, pressure rollers, upper
and lower guide rails, bearings, etc. If there is any defect found, the parts
should be repaired timely and then they can be put into use again.
7.3 After operation is finished every time or the machine is not in use, the
remaining powder in the machine should be removed. Clear away the
remaining powder from the parts of the machine. If the machine is not in
use for a long time, all the punches and dies must be removed from the
machine and the machine must be cleaned thoroughly. The surface of the
machine should be coated with rust preventative grease and the machine
should be covered with a cotton cover.
7.4 The punches and dies should be placed in the iron box with cover
and immersed in the oil completely. The punches and dies should keep
clean and prevented from rusting or bruising.

and adjustment. The customer should use the machine properly and set
up the operation parameters reasonably. Proper maintenance should be
carried out. The customer should take care of the machine maintenance
and storage.
