J2–4
1-4 UNIT CHECK
1-4-1 FRONT WIPER MOTOR Assy
(1) LO OPERATION CHECK
1. Connect the earth of the wiper motor to the negative (()
terminal of the battery.
2. Connect the ('1) terminal to the battery (+) terminal.
Ensure that the motor operates at a low speed.

(2) HI OPERATION CHECK

1. Connect the earth of the wiper motor to the negative (() terminal of the battery.
2. Connect the ('2) terminal to the battery (+) terminal. Ensure that the motor operates at a high speed.

(3) OPERATION CHECK FOR AUTOMATIC STOP POSITION

1. In the LO operation check, while operating the wiper motor at a low speed, remove the terminal (+1) from the
positive (+) terminal of the battery, thereby stopping the motor crank at a position other than the automatic
stop position.
2. After shorting the terminal (+1) with the terminal (S), connect the terminal (+) to the positive (+) terminal of
the battery. At this time, ensure that the motor operates again at the low speed and that the crank stops at
the automatic stop position.

1-4-2 REAR WIPER MOTOR Assy

1. Connect the terminal 2(+) of the wiper motor to the
positive (+) terminal of the battery; the terminal 1((1) to
the negative (() terminal of the battery. At this time, ensure
that the motor operates.
2. Under the condition at the step 1, remove the terminal
1((1) from the negative (() terminal of the battery,
thereby stopping the motor shaft at a position other than
the automatic stop position.
3. Under the condition of the step 2, connect the negative (()
terminal of the battery to the earth bolt of the wiper motor.
At this time, ensure that the motor operates again\ and that
the shaft stops at the automatic stop position.
J2–5
1-4-3 WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH
(1) FRONT WIPER SWITCH
1 CONTINUITY CHECK
1. Remove the windshield wiper switch.
Refer to Page J2-12.
2. Ensure that continuity exists between the terminals as
specified in the continuity table.
Continuity table of front wiper switch
Switching Terminal No. (Terminal code)
MIST (WB) (+1)
OFF (+1) (+S)
INT (+1) (+S)
LO (WB) (+1)
HI (WB) (+2)

2 INTERMITTENT OPERATION CHECK

1. Connect the positive (+) terminal of the battery to the terminal 3(WB); the negative (() terminal of the battery
to the terminal 6(EW) and terminal 5(+S).
2. Set the wiper switch to “INT” position.
3. After disconnecting the terminal 5(+S) from the negative (() terminal of the battery, connect the terminal
5(+S) to the positive (+) terminal of the battery for five seconds.
4. After the step 3, connect the terminal 5(+S) to the negative (() terminal of the battery, thus actuating the
relay. At this time, measure the voltage between the terminal 4(+1) and the terminal 6(EW).
SPECIFIED VALUE: For approx. 3 seconds after connecting the negative (() terminal of the battery:
1 V or less
After approx. 3 seconds after connecting the negative (() terminal of the battery:
10(14V

(2) FRONT WASHER SWITCH

1 CONTINUITY CHECK
1. With the washer switch set to ON position, ensure that
continuity exists between the 6(EW) terminal and 7(W)
terminal.
J2–6
2 OPERATION CHECK
1. Turn OFF the wiper switch.
2. Connect the positive (+) terminal of the battery to the terminal 3(WB); the negative (() terminal of the
battery to the terminal 6(EW) and terminal 5(+S).
3. Under the condition of the step 2, turn ON and OFF the wiper switch. At this time, measure the voltage
between the terminal 4(+1) and the terminal 6(EW).
SPECIFIED VALUE: Period from approx. 0.3 second after turning ON to approx. 2.2 seconds after turning
OFF: 10(14V
Other than period above: 1 V or less

(3) REAR WIPER & WASHER SWITCH

1. Ensure that continuity exists between the terminals as specified in the continuity table.

ON (EW) (+1R)
ON+WASH (EW) (WR) (+1R)

1-4-5 WINDSHIELD WASHER MOTOR & PUMP Assy

1. Put water into the washer jar.
2. Connect the connector terminal 1 of the washer pump to
the battery (() terminal; the terminal 2 to the battery (+)
terminal. At this time, ensure that the water is sent from the
pump under a pressurized condition.
