1-3 ARRANGEMENT OF VEHICLE HARNESS SIDE CONNECTOR TERMINALS

J3–4
1-4 HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLE SHOOTING
This system incorporates diagnosis functions that will locate malfunctioning parts, thus providing a vital clue in
trouble diagnosis operations.
J3–5
1-5 CONFIRMATION, RECORDING AND CANCELLING OF DIAGNOSIS CODES
The diagnosis codes for abnormal communication are indicated as long as such communication abnormality
persists. When the communication returns to the normal state, these codes are cancelled. Furthermore, if the negative
terminal (() of the battery should be disconnected while the abnormal communication is continuing, no abnormal
communication code will be re-outputted except for shorting. Therefore, it is necessary to record the diagnosis code
before the negative terminal (() of the battery is disconnected.

1-5-1 CHECKING METHOD OF DIAGNOSIS

1. Stop the vehicle.
2. With the ignition switch set to the LOCK position, connect (short) the ECU T terminal and E terminal of the
DLC located under the instrument panel.
CAUTION
• Connecting the connector in the wrong location could cause a malfunction. Therefore, make sure the connection
is correct.
SST: 09991-87403-000
09991-87404-000

3. With the IG switch turned ON, read the diagnosis code that is indicated on the malfunction indicator lamp.

TRIP A B 4
E

1-5-2 CANCELING METHOD OF DIAGNOSIS

There are two ways for the canceling method of diagnosis codes. The canceling method differs depending upon
codes.

1. The diagnosis codes of abnormal communication will be canceled by themselves when the communication
returns to the normal state.
2. The diagnosis codes are canceled by setting the IG switch to the [LOCK] position and disconnecting the
battery (() terminal.

1-9 FUNCTION CHECK
1-9-1 SPEEDOMETER
1. Using a speedometer tester, check the indicating error of the meter, fluctuations of the pointer and functions
of the odometer.
CAUTION
• Indicating errors are caused by excessive or lack of the tire air inflation pressure and tire wear.

1-9-2 VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL

(1) VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL INPUT CHECK (ELECTRIC TYPE METER)
1. When the electric type meter-equipped vehicle is running at a speed of 10 km/h, check change in voltage
between the terminal 19 (SPDIN) and the terminal 35(GND).
SPECIFIED VALUE: The switching between high and low occurs seven times per second.

CAUTION
• The check should be conducted with the connector connected.

(2) VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL OUTPUT CHECK (ELECTRIC TYPE METER)

1. When the vehicle is running at a speed of 10 km/h, check change in voltage between the terminal 20(SPDOUT)
and the terminal 19(GND).
SPECIFIED VALUE: The switching between high and low occurs seven times per second.

CAUTION
• The check should be conducted with the connector connected.

1-9-3 TACHOMETER
1. With a tachometer connected, start the engine. Check the indicating error of the tachometer.

CAUTION
• Do not raise the engine revolution beyond the permissible revolution speed (red zone).

1-9-5 HIGH-WATER TEMPERATURE WARNING LAMP, LOW-
WATER TEMPERATURE INDICATOR
WARNING
• While conducting this check, the radiator fan will start
rotating due to the fail-safe function of the radiator fan motor
control. Therefore, care must be exercised so as not to be
caught-in.
CAUTION
• When this check is conducted, the diagnosis code No. 42
will be outputted by the engine control computer.
Therefore, it is necessary to cancel the code concerned
after completion of the check.
1. Disconnect the water temperature sender gauge connector.
With the vehicle harness side connector terminals 1 and
3 shorted with each other, turn ON the IG switch (here,
do not start the engine). Confirm the lighting state of the
indicator.
SPECIFIED VALUE: The high-water temperature warning
lamp flashes.
2. Under the condition of Paragraph 1, cut the short between
terminals 1 and 3. Confirm the lighting state of the warning
lamp and indicator.
SPECIFIED VALUE: The low-water temperature indicator
goes on.

1-9-6 OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP

1. Disconnect the connector from the engine oil pressure switch.
2. Turn ON the ignition switch.
3. Check the oil pressure warning lamp status when the
vehicle wire harness connector terminal is short-circuited
to the body earth.
SPECIFIED VALUE: The warning lamp shall illuminate.
