The princple supplier ar manufacturer shall be 'SO: QMS and ISO: EMS certified and globally reputed, 5.12.4.3 Substituted Bearings The contractor may submit altemative pot bearings based on pot bearings of similar design to that shown for consideration and approval by the Engineer provided they comply with the following: (a) Equator better load carrying and movement capaciy: (b) Fabricated by an approved manufacturer, (c) All contro dimensions are maintained ; no change in overall height; bearing must fit within limits of detailed masonry plate: (@) Use unfiled Poly tetluoro ethylene. (¢) Use elastomeric material as a confined medium within the pot: (Equal or better than the bearings shown on the drawings in al structural respects. ‘WP: Cassano Pathan Tage "HON 6 PARTICULAR SPECIFICATIONS. PART Page 6-141 5.12.2 Materials 5.12.2.1 Metals (a) Stainess steet: Stainless steel sling surface shall either be stainless cad steel plate or sold stainless steel ‘eating the following requirements (i) Stainless stee! clad plate shall conform to the requirements of BS 1449: Part 2. The grade ‘of material for sliding surfaces shall be 316 S16. The backng steel of base metal shall be of Grade 43A to BS 4350. The stainless steel and based metal shall be mill rolled under heat {and pressure until they are integrally bonded over ther entire interface, {l) Sold stainless steel plate shall conform to the requirements of Bs 1449: Part (b) Stuctural Steel ‘Structural steel components of the bearing shall comply with requirements of 85 4360. For ppot bearings, the bases pot shall be machined from a sali steel plate. Alferrous metal (other than stainless steel) shall be fatriceed from the grade steel specified ‘above with the additional requirements that the steel shall contain 0.35 to 0.5% copper to ‘enhance its weathering characteristics (i) Anchor bolts, Hex Nuts And Washers Anchor Bolts, Hex Nuts and Washers shall be fabricated from the steel Grade-43 and complying with the requirements of BS 4360 and be ‘sized and threaded in confermance to the requirements of BS 3692 for Anchor Bolts and Hex Nuts end 8S 4320 for washers. i) Anchor Bolts, Nuts And Washers Anchor Bolts, Nuts and Washers shall be galvanized ‘and complying with the requirements of BS 72 (ii) Countersunk Screws Countersunk Scrows shail be carbon steel (equivalent to alloy 43, [BS 4360) oyindrios! heed cap screws, meeting the applicable requirements of BS 4933, (iv) End Welded Shear Studs End Welded shear studs shall be fabricated to the requirements of BS 4360 §.12.2.2 Poly Tetra Flouro Ethylene (PTFE) PTFE resin shall be 100 per cent virgin material meeting the requirements of BS 3786: Grade-A, ‘The composition of filed PTFE shall be such that its coeficient of friction is not more than twice the coefficient of friction of pure PTFE when measured under the same conditions, (2) Filler material Filer material, when used, shall be milled glass fibers, carbon or other approved inert filer material. (6) Adhesives for bonding PTFE to Backing Plates shall produce @ bond with minimum peel strength of 4Nimm width when tested in accordance with BS 5360: Part C9. They shall be resistant to the action of lubricants, atmospheric and biological agents and temperature to \which bearing may be subject, (c) Lubricant The lubricant used shall retain its properties within the temperature range of = 270 t0 + 470 C. It shall not change its consistency oF affect the constituent parts of the bridge bearings. All ingredients shall be uniformly dispersed, () the physical properties of the vulcanized rubber when tested according to 8S 903 shall Conform to the requirements the folowing physical properties of rubber. (6) Physical properties of Rubber. ‘The physical properties of the vulcanized rubber when tested according to appropriate standard shall conform to the requirements of Table 2.11 Bearings whose nominal hardness, falls within the ranges of 46-56, and 66-75 are classifed as types A, B and C respectively ‘and the properties ofthe vulcanize shall conform to the requirements of the respective types, However, in al cases the hardness of a single size and design of bearings shall be within a ‘maximum range of 35 IRHD. (@ Stainless steel sliding surface shall completely cover the PTFE surface in all operating positions of the bearing. (li) Stainless steel sliding surface shall be positioned so that the sliding movement causes the dirt and dust accumulation to fall from the surface of the stainless stee! without contaminating the PTFE. (b) PTFE Sliding Surface: Holes in PTFE sliding surface shall not be permitted. SPECIFICATIONS: PART Page: 5 Welding Welding to steel plate hes a bonded PTFE surface may be permitted provided welding Procedures are established which restrict the maximum temperature reached by the bond area to less than 1500 (as determined by temperature indication wax pencils or other suitable means approved by the Engineer) 5.12.3.6 Submission of shop drawings ‘The Contractor shall before the fabrication of any bearings, submit shop drawings to the Engineer for approval the shop drawings shall include (2) Plan and elevation of the bearing (b) Complete details and sections showing all materials incorporated withthe bearing, (c) All BS, ASTM or other material designations, (4) Vertical and horizontal load capacity (e) Rotation and translation capacity. () Compression stress on all sliding surfaces, as well as on the surfaces of the confines, ‘medium at maximum and minimum design loads. {(g) Complete design calculations to demonstrate compliance with the specification (h) Details of corrosion properties to metal components. (i) Details of fixing to both the superstructure and the substucture. () Method of instalation, () All other information requires by the Engineer to faclitate his consideration the Contractor's proposal. ‘The Contractor’s submission shall be made at least one month prior to the date by which approval of his proposals Is required. The contractor shall be responsible for ensuring that sufficient time fs allowed for the submission and approval of his proposals; and for the testing ‘and delivery ofthe bearings to avoid delaying the works. 5.12.4 Certifications ‘The Contractor shall furnish Certified Test Reports, Material Certificates and a Carificates of ‘Compliance for each bearing in accordance with the Engineers instructions. 5.12.5 Fabrication 5.12.54 PTFE (a) Bonded PTFE The surface of PTFE to be bonded shall be prepared for bonding in accordance with 85 5360: Part At. The minimum bord strength between the PTFE and its backing plate, when tested in accordance with BS 6360: Par-C9 shell be 4Nimm width (b) Confined PTFE shall be recessed into metal backing plate. Bolts and Bolt Holes Bolt holes shail be dried or reamed. Where specified by the Engineer, bolts or screw shail bbe of a vibration resistant type. Taper washers of the correct angle of taper shall be provided ‘under all heads and nuts bearing on beveled surfaces. 5.12.5.3 Welding (a) General Welding procedure shall be as such as to minimize distorton of the bearing component and to avoid damage to finished work or bonded materials. (©) Auminums Metalare welding of aluminum shall be in accordance with he recommendation of BS 3018: Part-t {(c) Stainless Stoo! Welding of stainless steel sheet to a mild steel backing plate shall be by an inert gas | shielded metal-are tungsten inert gas metal-arc process. Electrodes used with that former ‘method shall be austenitic steel electrodes complying with 8S 2926. 5.12.54 Protective Measures Permanently exposed surface shall be protected against corrosion as specified approved by the Engineer. (@) Dissimilar Materials: Care shall be taken to prevent electrolylic action between dissimilar metals in contact by the Use of suitable insulation and prevention of moisture penetration. (b\Damaged Areas Any damaged area of protactive treatment shall be made good to the satisfaction of the Engineer or the damaged parts replaced, 5.12.6 Testing | 6.12.6.1 Testing facilities for fabrication ‘The manufacturer shall have his plant forall the test facities required for the process and acceptance control tests. The test facliies and their operation shall be open to inspection by theEngineers demand. ‘Acceptance testing shall be commenced with the prior submittal of testing programme by the | ‘manufacturer to the Engineer and after obtaining his approval. The Contractor shall inform the Engineer at least one month in advance of the dato and piace of manufacture and test facilities of the bearing, The Contractor shall make necessary arrangement for the Engineer to inspect the manufacturing process of tests, Ifthe place of manufacture or testing is located overseas, the Contractor shall allow the cost for al expenses incurred by two officers ‘nominated by the Employer forthe inspection and tesiing of bearings. The Contractor shall provide the Engineer with all facilities at the places of manufacture and necessary for such Inspection. 5.12.6.2 Sample testing: Procedures and Compliance (a) Load Testing Both vertical and horizontal leads shall be applied to the bearing in the most adverse Combinations as specified on the Drawing ar in the Schedule of Bearings. Load transfer due to tting of bearing shall be taken into account. The test loads shall then be applied in increments and load deflection ‘measurements shall be recorded for each incrament. The rate of loading shall be siow enough to avoid any adverse shock effects and the maximum load shall be maintained unt any obvious short-term creep has ceased. ‘The load shall then be removed in decrements and load deflection measurements made each decrement, After complete unloading, the amount of set shall be checked and if significant, the loading and unloading cycle shall be repeated. If the set is shown to be progressive, ten the bearing is deemed not to comply with this Specification For compliance, tested bearing shall show no sign of visible damage or permanent
