Ⅱ. Using of Davit-launched Liferafts
2. Davit-launched method:
⑴ Untie the lashing apparatus of liferaft. Open the small door on the
container and then hang the lifting shackle from the quick release hook (see
Fig.3 and Fig.4).
7. During raining, use the empty fresh water bottles or tins, or other means
available to collect the rainwater through the rainwater catchment collection
tube and store for use.
8. After the liferaft is launched into water and released, it should be
immediately away from the wrecked ship so as to avoid been driven into the
vortex of the sunken ship. Then the sea anchor should be dropped into water.
⑵ Two stable lines are pulled out from the rubber socket on both ends of the 9. Properly close the canopy entrance so as to avoid from the attack of

lifted to the side of the ship (see Fig.5). 10. Keep a rational use on the food rations, fresh water. Keep the medicines
and signaling apparatus in dry condition, lest they may become useless.
11. If there are any leaks or piercing resulting from outside causes, take out
the rubber plug from the equipment bag to plug the holes as shown in Fig.19 or
use the repair clamps to stop leaking as shown in Fig.20. For permanent repairs,
first make the repair area rough by emery paper, and then apply some adhesive,
last put on the rubberized polyamide fabric with adhesive to patch the damage
(after patching, allow 5 minutes interval and then re-inflate the patched
compartment).

⑶ Inflate the liferaft by pulling the painter. The canopy entrance with
boarding ladder is along the shipboard (see Fig.6).
3. Take out the radar reflector from the emergency pack then install it
correctly according to its manual. ⑷ Untie the boarding pedal cloth. Two ropes connected with it are fastened

period after inflation there might be slight leaking of gas from the buoyancy
compartments, or when the air temperature has reduced considerably, the
pressure in the buoyancy compartments may also be liable to drop. In case of
significant pressure drop in a certain compartment, use the bellow to top it up.
The method is same as item 1.
5. The identification light on top of the canopy and illuminating light inside
the liferaft are supplied from cells. If you needn’t light, please insert the plug.
6. In the night, signals may be sent by the electric torch, and in the daytime,
by the daylight signaling mirror with the aid of sunlight (see Fig.18).
⑸ The survivors boarded the liferaft through the boarding pedal cloth (see
Fig.8).
10 3
⑹ The stable line, ropes of the boarding pedal cloth and the painter line
being quickly released and the brake of the davit being taken off, the liferaft is
then lowed down to the water surface. A person in the liferaft pulls on the line
attached to the quick release hook and makes the lifting shackle released. The
liferaft is now afloat on the water stably (see Fig.9).
⑷ By means of the buoyancy provided by the inflated liferaft, the weak line
connected with the painter line is broken. The liferaft is disconnected with the
wrecked ship. Now, survivors in water can board the liferaft.
Ⅲ Subsequent Actions
1. In case of water accumulation inside the liferaft, take out the bailer and
sponges from the repair bag to clear out the water.
2. Take out the bellows. Connect the inflation pipe of the bellows to the
inflation valve in the floor. Screw out the valve and inflate manually (see
Fig.17). After inflation, screw in the inflation valve.

⑵Hydrostatic release unit when sinking to a depth of 2-4 m from water line ⑺ Survivors take the paddles out and make the liferaft leave the ship quickly
will automatically released. Then the container begins to float (see Fig. 15). so as to avoid being sunken down by the sinking ship.
⒉ Launching method:
⑴ Release the hydrostatic release unit and let the liferaft launch
automatically into the water or alternatively cast the liferaft overboard by hand.
The liferaft will be inflated automatically into its shape with CO2+N2 gas
released from the CO2+N2 gas cylinders. If the liferaft is stowed at a height less
than 18 meter from the waterline, pull out the painter line to activate the
operating head then the liferaft will be inflated into its shape (see Fig. 10).
⑶ With continuous sinking of ship and floating of the container, the painter
line is gradually pulled out and the operating head is then initiated. The liferaft
is automatically inflated (see Fig.16). ⑵ When the liferaft has been inflated into its shape, persons, after putting on
their life-jackets, may board the liferaft across the boarding ramp or ladders
hanging overside the ship or by the aid of other means, and persons in water
may board the liferaft by the boarding ladders or boarding ramp locating on rear
entrances. If the ship has low shipboard, crews may jump over board from the
deck into the liferaft, but great care should be taken to the safety of other people
and avoid wearing hard-sole shoes (see Fig.11).
8 5
⑶ In particular cases which the liferaft inflates in an inverted position, a man
wearing a lifejacket may climb on the raft and stand on the side where the gas

process is as following:
⑴ The liferaft sinks down together with the wrecked ship (see Fig. 14).
⑷ After boarding, survivors immediately take out the knife and cut the
painter line which is connected with the sinking ship, and then practice the
paddles to make the liferaft leave the sinking ship quickly so as to avoid being
sunken down by it ( see Fig.13).
