Language Week Activities - JULY 2024

Primary School Level (Classes 1-5)


Monday: Storytelling Day
Activity: Story Circle

● Objective: Encourage creativity and verbal skills.

● Description:

o Arrange students in a circle. One student (The group secretary) in the circle
writes down the sentences.
o Start a story with a sentence (e.g., "Once upon a time, in a land far away...").

o Each student adds one sentence to the story, building upon what the previous
student said.
o After everyone has contributed, the group secretary concludes the story and
reads it back to the class.

● Materials Needed: Notepad, pencil

Tuesday: Vocabulary Day


Activity: Word Treasure Hunt

● Objective: Expand vocabulary and promote teamwork.

● Description:

o Hide word cards around the classroom or school environment.

o Provide students with a list of the words they need to find.

o Once all words are found, students must use them to create simple sentences.

● Materials Needed: Word cards, list of words.

Wednesday: Book Character Costume day


Activity: Book Character Day

● Objective: Foster a love for reading and encourage creativity and expression.

● Description:

o Preparation:
▪ Inform students in advance to choose their favorite book character and
wear a costume of the chosen character.
▪ Encourage them to bring the book or a picture of the character if
possible.
o Activity Execution:
▪ Begin the day with a brief introduction of the activity and its
objectives.
▪ Allow each student to present their character to the class, explaining
who they are, the book they come from, and why they chose this
character.
▪ Provide time for a short, improvised scene or a reading from the book
involving their character.
o Follow-Up:
▪ Engage the class in a discussion about the different characters and
stories presented.
▪ Encourage students to ask questions or share their thoughts on the
books and characters they found interesting.

Materials Needed:

● Costumes (brought from home)


● Books or pictures of the characters
● Optional: Small props related to the characters' stories

Thursday: Book Fair and Exchange


Activity: Bring and Share Books

● Objective: Encourage reading and sharing of books.

● Description:

o Organize a book fair where students can bring books they’ve read and
exchange them with classmates.
o Set up a common station in the classroom and allow students to browse and
discuss their favorite books.

o Encourage students to share verbal reviews or recommendations for the books
they bring.

● Materials Needed: Books

Friday: Game Day


Activity: Charades

● Objective: Enhance communication and vocabulary.

● Description:

o Organise students into teams or groups.

o Players act out words or phrases without speaking, while their teammates try
to guess what they are acting out.
o Each group is given 3 words / phrases (common English movie names;
common English songs; jobs; animals). One category at a time, teacher
decides)
