Now we know that:

1. Shelter protects us from heat, cold, rain, wind, snow and wild animals.
2. Types of houses depend on various factors like climate and materials
available. Sometimes even for a short time if a house is made it is called
temporary house and for a longer period is called permanent house.
3. People from different parts of the country lives in different kinds of
houses.
4. To keep our house safe we should follow some safety measures.
5. We must keep our house clean.

B. Answer the following questions:

1. Why are different types of houses built in different regions of India?

Ans:- India is a large country of different landforms, each landforms having a

different type of climate. Hence, we find different types of houses in different
areas of India.

2. Why are stilt houses made?

Ans:- Stilt houses are common in areas where there is heavy rainfall. A stilt
house has slopping roof so that rainwater can flow down through stilts. The high
stilts allow flood water to flow through the stilt. Example:- Houses in Assam
have stilt houses.

3. State few safety norms.

Ans:- We must follow some measures to stay safe at our house:-
a) Always keep the doors locked.
b) Do not play with sharp object.
c) Walk up and down the stairs carefully.
d) Stay away from lighters and matches.

4. What is a flat? Where are they found?

Ans: - The house in a high-rise building is called a flat.

It is found in cities with high population.
5.State some tips to keep our house neat and clean.

Ans. All the family members must work together to keep the house neat, clean
and disease free. We must follow few tips or ways to keep our house clean.
Some such tips are as follows:-

a) We must sweep and mop the floor daily.

b) We must clean our bathrooms regularly.
c) We must keep our school bags, books and shoes in their proper places.
d) We must throw waste like fruits and vegetables peels in the green dustbin
and paper , plastic and meat in blue dustbin.
