Answer these questions.

1) Neil left home at 12:00 and after an hour and a half of moving at a constant speed, he
had travelled 44 miles, at which point he stopped. After 3 hours of being stopped, he
drove towards home at a constant speed, and it took him 2 hours in total to get home.

a) From the description of Neil’s journey below, construct a distance-time graph.

2)

b) Determine Neil’s speed in his forward journey.

Speed = Slope of the forward journey = (y2-y1)/(X2-X1) = (44-0)/13.30-12.00)

= 44/1.5 = 29.33

Speed: 29.33 miles/hour

c) Determine Neil’s velocity for the entire journey.

As Neil returns back to where he started, Neil’s displacement = 0

And hence his velocity = 0 miles/hour.

velocity = 0 miles/hour

2) The graph shows the movement of a car from point A to D.

a) Calculate the speed of the car in the first 10 seconds.

Speed = Slope of the forward journey = (y2-y1)/(X2-X1) = (200-0)/(10-0) = 20

Speed: 20 m/s

b) On which part of the journey did the car travel faster?

From A to B

c) How long did the car stop?

20 s

d) Determine the average speed of the car for the entire journey.

Average speed = total distance/total time = 500/60 = 8.33

Average speed: 8.33 m/s
