Introduction

Food and nutrients are closely related but has different concepts when it comes to
nourishing the body. Food refers to the substances we consume to provide energy and
essential nutrients for our body to function properly, while nutrients are a part of food that
provide nourishment and support to various body functions.

Food
Food is a complex mixture of vitamins, minerals, water, carbohydrates, fat and protein with
the last three being nutrients. Nutrients help us sustain life. Not only does it provide us
energy to do daily activities, it protects us from various diseases by eating fresh vegetables.
That contains certain vitamins. When we eat food ( not counting nutrients) Our body gets
minerals such as iron, calcium, different vitamins, carbohydrates, fat and protein.

Minerals
Calcium is needed as our body needs stronger bones to support larger body mass, and if
you don;t get enough your bones are likely to shatter after coming in contact with anything
strong. Iron helps the body to make more haemoglobin so that the blood can transfer more
oxygen allowing people like me to breathe easier. A good source of iron would be liver, red
meat, eggs and so on. Vitamin A helps us to see during the night and without it our eyes will
adjust much slower to the darkness. Vitamin C helps speed up regeneration and makes our
skin stronger. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium, and a good source is oily fish, but we mostly
get them from the sunlight.

Nutrients
Nutrients are things that allow our body to function, These include carbohydrates, fats and
protein. Carbohydrates are classified as sugars, starches and fibre, they act as an energy
source and helps constipation. Without it you will become weak, dizzy and lose a lot of
weight. On the other hand, fats provide you with warmth and are used like a battery when
you stop eating food, as it takes the fat and consumes it from the inside. The last is protein,
why bodybuilders consume protein it helps make new cells and it allows them to achieve
greater body mass with less effort.

Conclusion
In the end, food and nutrients are closely related and are important to us but in the end
unless you are on a diet or you are a body builder you really just eat food because it is
visually appealing and tastes good.
