1.0. SCOPE AND DEFINITIONS

1.1. This specification covers the minimum requirements of Al-Furat Petroleum Company for the
design of buildings for onshore oil and gas facilities.

1.2. Within this specification the following definitions apply:

COMPANY : Al Furat Petroleum Company.

CONTRACTOR : The CONTRACTOR, if any selected by Company to perform the work


or
provide services as described in this specification.

INSPECTOR : The individual (s) designated by COMPANY to act on COMPANY's


behalf for all matters relating to quality control, testing and acceptance
of the work described in this specification.

1.3. Adherence to this specification is the CONTRACTOR's responsibility. The CONTRACTOR


shall notify COMPANY prior to taking any exception to this specification.

2.0. CODES, STANDARDS AND SUPPLEMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS

All buildings shall be designed in accordance with these specifications and the latest edition of the
following codes and standards. In case of any contradiction between the international codes and
these specification, then the latest shall prevail.

2.1. American concrete institute (ACI), ACI-318 building code requirements for reinforced concrete.

2.2. American concrete institute detailing manual ACI-315.

2.3. American National Standard Institute ANSI-A58.1 Minimum design loads in buildings and
other structures.

2.4. Uniform Building Code.

2.5. American Iron and Steel Institute, (AISI) specification for the design of cold formed steel
structural members.

2.6. Metal Building Manufacturer's Association.


Recommended Design practices Manual.
Recommended Code of Standard Practices.

2.7. American Welding Society, (AWS) AWS D1.1, Structural Welding Code.

2.8. American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)


Fundamentals.

2.9. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 90 A/B.

3.0. INTRODUCTION

The CONTRACTOR shall design all buildings as required by the project scope of work and
COMPANY specifications.
As a rule the requirements of this specification shall be adhered to. In all cases CONTRACTOR
shall inform the COMPANY of any deviation from the requirement of this specification.
For subjects not covered in this specification or international codes, the design and engineering shall
be based on good and economic engineering practice. The methods of design and engineering are
subject to the approval of the COMPANY. All buildings shall be designed by engineers experienced
and well qualified in the design of steel and concrete buildings.

4.0. LOADING DATA

4.1. The following loads and forces shall be considered in design of structure.

- Dead load (Own weight of the structural member and of finishing materials)
- Live load (Imposed movable load on the structure)
- Operating load (Loads which apply during operation of the plant)
- Test load (Loads which apply during the testing of the facility)
- Dynamic load (Impact or vibration load)
- Environmental load (Earthquake, wind, temperature)
- Installation loads (Loads during erection)
- Fire load (Loads induced by fire action)

4.2. Structures shall be designed for all individual loads and for the various combinations of loads
that may act together. The following combinations are to be considered and the most severe
is
to control.

- Dead load + Live load + Dynamic load


- Dead load + Wind or Earthquake load + Temperature load
- Dead load + Live load + Wind or Earthquake load + Temperature load
- Dead load + Test load

4.3. Loads produced by wind shall be anticipated from any direction. Design wind velocity is 160
Kilometers per hour.

4.4. All buildings and structural components shall be designed for earthquake. As a minimum,
buildings should be designed for an earthquake zone 3 according to Uniform Building Code.
A special soil investigation shall be made to predict the possibility of ground displacements,
settlements and soil liquefaction.

4.5. All buildings and structural components shall be designed for local maximum/minimum
temperature of 50° and -10 C° respectively.

4.6. Foundation design shall be based on a detailed soil report to be conducted by


CONTRACTOR.
CONTRACTOR shall consider the forces induced by the differential settlement if applicable.

4.7. Explosion Resistance


The distance of a building to process equipment will determine the design principles and
general design rules to be applied.
Buildings in non-hydrocarbon processing plant do not require special provisions with regard to
explosion resistance.
Buildings which are normally occupied by personnel shall be built at a safe distance from
hazard sources which is normally more than 200m away from process plant. Shorter distances
to low risk plants may be acceptable. This shall be confirmed by hazard assessment.
Buildings for personal located within 200 meters from oil and gas processing plants shall be
designed in such a way that the occupants are protected against partial or total collapse of the
building and its components (including glass fragments)

5.0. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

5.1. The CONTRACTOR shall adhere to modern building practices with regard to codes, material,
specifications, safety and ease of maintenance, etc.
The lay-out and design of buildings shall be such as to allow future horizontal extension, unless
this requirement is explicitly excluded in the project specification.

5.2. Preliminary design


A Preliminary design shall be made for each building. This design shall consist of the following:
- A lay-out plan showing the position of the building on site, including plant and true north and
prevailing wind directions.

- A plan for every floor, indicating position dimensions, levels and intended use of the rooms in
the building.
- A schematic drawing of essential elevations and typical cross sections.
- For buildings with basements, the highest ground water level shall also be indicated.
- Schedule of basic structural materials proposed to be used.
- A description of the mode of temperature and humidity control, ventilation and lighting
facilities and light intensities expected in the building.
- Preliminary design for insulation against sun-load and proposed devices to be used for
protection.
- A description including material specifications of other installation like lifts, plumbing,
drainage, sewage disposal etc. All materials are subject to COMPANY approval.

5.3. Final design and engineering


The final design shall comprise:

- A lay-out plan, showing the location and orientation of the building.


- Drawing showing the design of the structures elements of the building and its foundation.

On this drawing the general information/data shall be shown as general notes on the right-hand
side of the drawing.
The general notes shall state that:

. Levels are expressed in meters with reference to the highest point in the grade.
. Dimensions are expressed in millimeters.
. Bar diameters are expressed in millimeters.

Further more, the general notes shall list:

. The quality of concrete.


. The quality of steel reinforcing bars.
. The quality of cement to be used.
. The concrete covers of bars.
. The list of reference drawings and related documents stating their title and number.

For steel structure the drawings shall clearly show all construction details of the structure to be
supplied. The location of the various parts of the structure shall be indicated. The drawing shall
show all dimensions and the sections to be used shall be included. The drawings shall show all
dimensions and details of the base plate including holding down bolts. the scale for the detail
shall be at least 1:10. structural details such as connection of steel beams and columns or detail
of reinforcing steel over the full length of the structural member shall be shown. When
prefabricated concrete elements are used the connection between the various elements shall be
shown.

- Plans of every floor and roof, cross-sections through individual floors and essential elevations
of the building. These drawings shall show the position, form, dimensions and materials of
the various parts of the building.

- Collected design data and calculations for climatic consideration, logically leading to the
conditions expected to prevail in the building.

- The scale of the drawings and related documents shall in general be as follows:
Plot Plan 1/500 or 1/200
Plans sections and elevations (Preliminary design) 1/200 or 1/100
Plans section and elevations (Final design) 1/100 or 1/50
Details as required: 1/20, 1/10, 1/2 or 1/1.

The calculation shall give the design assumptions and shall follow all loads included in 4.1. It
shall
state the loads in the main structural member (axial load, bending moment, shear and possibly
Torsion) and shall include the load on the foundation.
The calculation shall take into account the soil investigation report.
In the detailed design the calculation shall indicate the following:

- The table of content.


- Design assumption.
- Applicable codes, formulas, graphs/tables.
- Reference to literature for subjects not covered by applicable codes.
- Loading tables with loading location diagram.

If computer programs are used, the following information shall be supplied:

a) Logic and theory used.


b) Users manual.
c) Analytical model of the structure used for computer analysis.
d) A hand calculation to prove the validity of the computer analysis.
e) Loads and load combinations.

6.0. CLIMATIC DESIGN CONSIDERATION

6.1. Buildings may require climatic conditioning i.e. heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning
(HVAC) to maintain the temperature, relative humidity and air quality within defined limits. In
order to provide reliable operation of electronic equipment and acceptable human working
conditions all HVAC equipment shall be designed for the following environmental conditions

a) Maximum temperature inside/outside enclosure due to solar heat absorption is 66 °C.


b) Outside air when cooling 51° C, relative humidity 10% to 70%.
c) Outside air when heating -10° C, relative humidity 55% to 90%.
d) Inside design conditions 22 ± 1°C, relative humidity 45% ± 5%.
e) Maximum wind velocity is 160 km/h.

6.2. All heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems shall be designed, fabricated and installed
to provide easy access for service and maintenance.

6.3. All equipment shall have standard nameplate bearing the manufacturer's name, address, trade
name and catalog number securely affixed to the equipment in a conspicuous place. Care shall
be taken not to damage the nameplate in any way.

6.4. Where alternative suitable refrigerants exist which are less harmful to the environment than
chlorofluoro-hydrocarbons (CFCS), HVAC equipment shall be capable of satisfactory operation
with such refrigerants.

6.5. Laboratory, office, guard house, accommodation, switchgear and control buildings shall have a
ventilation system designed for the following air changes per hour (ACH).

Fresh air ventilation may be required to:


- Provide a minimum fresh air intake quantity per unit of time.
- Maintain an overpressure in order to prevent the ingress of contaminants.
- Compensate for specific exhaust, such as in toilets and laboratories.

6.6. The dissipated heat from personnel, lighting and electronic equipment etc., shall not be taken
into account for heating capacity calculations. Heat losses through walls, floors and roofs shall
be taken into account.

6.7. Cooling capacity calculations shall be based on heat generation from heat sources such as:
- Personnel
- Electronic equipment
- Lighting
- (fresh) Air intake
- Solar radiation through transparent surfaces such as windows
- Heat transmission through walls, roofs, floor etc.

6.8. All roof ventilation opening shall be covered with mesh.

7.0. Plumbing design consideration

7.1. Plumbing shall be PVC for sewage service.

7.2. Hot and cold water to be galvanized steel pipe. Hot water pipes to be insulated.

7.3. Underground potable and utility water piping shall be insulated and shall be adequately
protected against freezing.

7.4. There shall be two separate drainage systems for black and gray water.

7.5. Sanitary sewer lines shall be designed for minimum velocity of (90 cm/sec) and maximum
velocity of (210 cm/sec).

7.6. Minimum size sewer line shall be 4 inches in diameter.

7.7. Sanitary sewer lines should be routed so that they do not pass over potable water lines.

7.8. Sewer pips shall extend at least 1 m past outer face of building wall. Vitrified clay tile of PVC
lines shall be used from the buildings to the septic tank and to the leaching field. Lines in the
leaching field shall be open joint tile or perforated PVC pipe. All vent piping shall be Schedule
40 PVC (poly-viny1 chloride) pipe and fittings.

7.9. Manholes or cleanout connections shall be located every 100 m of straight run pipe or for
angles where line changes direction greater than 45°. For angles less than 45° use 1/8 or 1/4
bends.

7.10. Drainage inside and outside shall have a minimum 2% slope.

7.11. Septic tank shall be designed for a minimum of 300 gallon capacity or 50 gallons per person
whichever is greater. Septic tanks shall be constructed of concrete and shall be constructed so
that the length is approximately twice the width. Minimum fluid level in the septic tank shall
be 900 mm with a 300 mm air space above the fluid level. Each compartment of the septic
tank
shall have a manhole opening and manhole cover, minimum opening of 450 mm diameter or
450 mm square.
Minimum wall thickness of the septic tank shall be 150 mm walls & floor with 100 mm top.
When commercial septic tanks are used, CONTRACTOR shall furnish a written guarantee on
the load capacity.

7.12. Sub-soil drains (leach field) may be used when the soil porosity is suitable. Whenever practical
the drain lines should follow the ground contour.

7.13. A test pit should be dug and the relative absorption of the soil in the drain field determined.
The test pit should be approximately 450 mm deep and filled with 150 mm of water and the
time measured for the water in the pit to drop 25 mm. The relative absorption is considered to

be rapid if the water drops 25 mm in 0 to 5 minutes, medium if in 5 to 15 minutes, and slow
for
over 15 minutes.

7.14. The drain lines shall be designed for a minimum length of 150 mm of 4” drain line per gallon
per day for rapid absorption, 250 mm of 4” drain line per gallon per day for slow and medium
absorption.

7.15. In the event parallel runs of drain lines are installed, each run shall be located a minimum of
3000 mm center to center from the next run.

7.16. The drain lines shall be bedded in clean and graded crushed stone ranging in size form 15 mm
to 35 mm. The top of the stone shall be covered with untreated building paper, a 50 mm layer
of straw or other suitable pervious material to prevent clogging the stone by earth back fill.
Pipe shall be placed so that perforations are on the bottom.

7.17. The pipe shall be laid and fitted together so that the sewer system has a smooth and uniform
gradient. The pipe shall be kept thoroughly clean to effect water tight joints.

7.18. Jointing shall be done with standard solvent cement compound.

7.19. After lines are installed, the interior of all lines shall be swabbed clean.

7.20. Before back filling, the sewer lines shall be hydrostatically tested with a 1200 mm static head
of
water for a minimum period of one hour with no leakage allowed in the lines upstream of the
drain field. In the event repairs are required the repaired section shall be retested.

8.0. Building Details

8.1. Exterior walls

8.1.1. External walls shall be of sandwich type construction. A 150mm external concrete block wall,
30mm of (non- formaldehyde cured) polyurethane thermal insulation and a 100mm internal
concrete block wall. These minimum dimensions may be adjusted to provide an equivalent
R23
thermal insulation rating.

8.1.2. Exterior walls shall be built of non-reinforced, non load-bearing, precast concrete blocks
placed between columns.

8.1.3. Exterior surfaces shall be covered with trowelled cement plaster and sprayed with colored
white cement/sand mixture.

8.1.4. Interior surfaces shall be covered with trowelled cement plaster.


Surfaces not covered with tile or other wall covering will be painted.

8.1.5. Joints between column and wall shall be covered with wire mesh and plastered to prevent
vertical cracking, minimum width of the mesh starting of the face of the column shall not be
less than 300mm.

8.1.6. Felt or asphalt paper (not less than 70 g/m2ý) shall be used at horizontal wall/ceiling joint
with
mastic to prevent horizontal cracking. Surfaces shall be finished to blend in with wall.

8.1.7. Parapets shall be cantilevered type cast with roof and shall be 1.0 meter high from unfinished
concrete surface.

8.2. Interior walls

8.2.1. Interior walls (partitions) should be non-load bearing and of concrete blocks and plaster
construction. All visible concrete (inside and outside) shall be "fair- faced" (smooth finish).

8.2.2. Column/wall joints shall be covered with wire mesh extending 300mm from each side of the
column and plastered to prevent cracking.

8.2.3. Damp areas such as bathrooms or showers, and sanitary areas such as kitchens, laboratories
and medical facilities to have glazed tile covered walls to ceiling height, unless otherwise
specified by the COMPANY.

8.2.4. All interior wall shall be built and plastered to the ceiling height and properly jointed with the
ceiling.

8.3. Floors ceilings and roofs

8.3.1. High point of building floor slabs shall normally be 150mm above high point of paving except
for control buildings or electrical substations which are normally 600mm above high point of
paving.

8.3.2. Floors shall be poured-in-place reinforced concrete.

8.3.3. Vapor barrier shall be laid under floor slabs.

8.3.4. Floor levels of bathrooms shall be 25mm lower than the floor level of adjacent room with
100mm marble width door sill (door step) to separate both areas.

8.3.5. Floors in bedrooms, offices, MCC/ Switchgear buildings, Guard houses and
instrument/electrical workshops to be Ceramic tile covered, Baseboards to be ceramic tiles
100mm high.

8.3.6. Damp areas such as bathrooms or showers, and sanitary areas such as kitchens, laboratories
and medical facilities to have ceramic tile floors, glazed tile walls up to approximately
100mm
above the false ceiling and water resistant suspended acoustical ceilings where appropriate.

8.3.7. Reinforced concrete roof to be covered with minimum 50mm of foam concrete, waterproofing
layer and covered with gravel. The roofing system is to have an equivalent R23 thermal
insulation rating.

8.3.8. Access shall be provided to all roofs.

8.3.9. Roof shall be sloped 20mm per meter, drain holes and downspouts to ground level shall be
provided for proper drainage.
Downspouts shall be of cast iron.

8.3.10. Rooms containing communications equipment, computers or high concentration of electrical


cable i.e., control rooms) Not MCC/switchgear buildings), etc., shall have suspended
acoustical ceilings.

8.3.11. For the installation of computers and other instrument of electrical equipment with cable
connection at the bottom of the equipment, a special cavity floor shall be installed.
The removable panels shall be 600x600 mm and 40mm thick, constructed of plywood or
chipboard, finished with 2mm thick factory applied, anti-static, wearing surface at the top
and aluminium foil at the bottom.
The floor panels shall rest on adjustable pedestals manufactured of mild steel with mild steel
foot and top plates.
The pedestals shall be glued to the concrete floor, adjustable in height, providing a distance
between the top of the cavity floor and the top of the concrete floor of 750mm.
The adjustable part shall have automatic positive locking.
Bracing shall be installed to prevent lateral movement of the flooring system.

8.4. Doors and windows

8.4.1. Vestibules, approximately (2x3)m or as required, masonry structure shall be constructed on all
main entrances (not including emergency exits) with one main metal door, located the
downwind side.

8.4.2. All vestibule doors (Exterior and interior) shall be steel. Outside vestibule door shall be
oriented on the downwind side.

8.4.3. Metal doors (Not aluminium) and door frames shall be used for all exterior doors. Doors are to
be integral with the frame.

8.4.4. Doors to be gasketed at door frame and threshold.

8.4.5. Metal door and frames shall be used for security, offices and workshop doors.

8.4.6. All windows shall be non-opening type, except in the bathroom where a small opening light is
required, have heat reflective value of R19, double glazed have aluminium frame and fixed on
marble frame.

8.4.7. All guard houses windows shall be opening type, have heat reflective value of R19, double
glazed and have aluminium frame.

8.4.8. All windows to have sunshade made of concrete and covered with bricks.
