COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course will provide a framework within which to select, evaluate and justify the research methods
chosen by students for their research project. The course requires the students to prepare and write a
research proposal which will normally lead for a dissertation. Hence prior knowledge of some research
approaches at level 3 is normally expected. The course consists of both traditional and blended learning
including lectures; group and peer led tutorials and directed learning tasks.
Students will be expected to participate in discussions regarding the theoretical considerations and
practical issues surrounding the assessment and management of patients Students will be encouraged to
explore, discuss and share their past experiences of clinical practice and educational processes (e.g.
relevant post graduate training/courses).
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
This course is designed to provide students with a critical overview of the main methodologies and
design applied to research within health and social care, professional practice, regulation and
Policy. It provides students with an opportunity to explore the theoretical dilemmas which underlie the
process of inquiry and its relationship to practice
