Safe work guidelines for stuck vibrator retrieval work:

Hazards involved in stuck vibrator retrieval activity

Physical Hazard: hit by swing of crane, boom flip off, hit by the flying object, wire rope snap, crane
become unstable, crane toppling, Oil Spillage from Rig. Back pain due to incorrect positioning and
prolonged working

Crane Operational Assessment:

1. Before proceeding to retrieval activity kindly ensure the verticality of extension tube with crane fall line
2. Crane must be parked on stable ground and working platform stability must be check
3. Crane must be running under its safe working load limit and operator must be competent for the
retrieval work
4. Arrange crane working radius (minimum allowable limit) & boom angle (maximum allowable limit),
which bring crane to its maximum lift capacity
5. Only trained & competent operator should operate the Crane
6. Never apply the dynamic load on vibrator while retrieval activity
7. Inspect all equipment prior to works commencing
8. Work area to be maintained and designated pathways to be used
9. Exclusion zone to be established, clearly delineated and maintained
10. Essential Personnel only in the work area
11. Appropriate warning Signage to be displayed
12. Competent person who is having knowledge of vibrator retrieval must be present during operations
13. No access for personnel under suspended load
14. Ensure appropriate PPE should be in use
15. Always insure Positive communication between Operator and competent person

A. If Vibro is stuck Step to be followed -

1. Stop down water pressure

2. Stop KSB pump and Open Y valve to release water pressure and air

3. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes

4. Call for designated person for vibrator retrieval

5. Pull main wire to make it taut

6. Apply Static load such as 7t,12t,15t,20t,25t,30t as per SWL of crane (gradually increase it by 5T)

7. IF VIBRATOR NOT RETRIVED

7A. Wait again for 5 to 10 minutes

7B. Apply Static load such as 7t,12t,15t,20t,25t,30t as per SWL of crane (gradually increase it by 5T)

8. IF VIBRATOR NOT RETRIVED

8(I) Start KSB pump and open Y valve & start down water slightly

8(II) Water supply should be start->Continue->Stop then again Start->Continue->Stop and carry on like
this ,parallelly apply static load such as 7t,12t,15t,20t,25t,30t as per SWL of crane .check AMP/if AMP get
high than pull vibrator up and down to do low the AMP or release the load

8(III) If you see any displacement in vibrator continue the process and retrieve the vibrator

B If vibro motor has burnt and got stuck

1. Stop KSB pump and Open Y valve to release water pressure and air
2. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes
3. Pull main wire to make it taut
4. Apply static load such as 7t,12t,15t,20t,25t,30t as per SWP of crane (gradually increase it by 5T)
5. Start KSB pump and open Y valve & start down water slightly
6. Water supply should be start->Continue->Stop then again Start->Continue->Stop and carry on like
this ,parallelly apply static load such as 7t,12t,15t,20t,25t,30t as per SWL of crane .
7. If you see any displacement in vibrator continue the process and retrieve the vibrator

C If vibrator not retrieved use second crane for boring

1. Use a 2nd crane to penetrate & loosen compacted soil /Nearby Area

2. Try to pull again using 1st crane apply static load such as 7t,12t,15t,20t,25t,30t as per SWL of crane

D If wire rope has snapped

1.Change the wire rope

2.Try to pull again, if long arm excavator is available

3.Dig around the vibro & Try to pull again

During retrieval of stuck vibrator Do NOT:

i. Hurry

ii. Turn off vibro

iii. Swing or boom up & down

iv. Sit crane too near vibro point
