AT BARANGAY RUPARAN
December 28, 2023

I. SITUATION OVERVIEW
On December 28, 2023, Barangay Ruparan hosted a significant seminar focused
on the Magna Carta for Women, led by Mrs. Grace G. Maximales, a respected
Registered Social Worker (RSW). The event aimed to educate the local community
about the rights and protections afforded to women under Philippine law, and to foster
a more inclusive and equitable environment within the barangay.
The seminar began promptly at 9:00 AM at the Barangay Hall, with an
impressive turnout of over 70 participants, including local women leaders, barangay
officials, and community members. The opening session started with an invocation,
followed by a welcome address from Barangay Captain Raul Villanueva, who highlighted
the importance of understanding and advocating for women's rights in fostering
community development.

II. ACTION TAKEN

Mrs. Grace G. Maximales, a seasoned social worker with extensive experience in
women's advocacy, delivered the keynote address. She began by introducing the Magna
Carta for Women (Republic Act No. 9710), a comprehensive women's human rights law
that seeks to eliminate discrimination against women by recognizing, protecting,
fulfilling, and promoting their rights.
Mrs. Maximales provided an in-depth overview of the Magna Carta for Women.
She explained the historical context and the need for such a law, outlining its key
provisions. The law guarantees women's rights in various areas including education,
employment, health, and protection from violence. Mrs. Maximales detailed the specific
rights and entitlements guaranteed under the Magna Carta for Women. She discussed
provisions related to reproductive health, maternity benefits, equal treatment in the
workplace, and protection from gender-based violence. Her explanations were enriched
with real-life examples and case studies that resonated with the audience. She focused
on the implementation of the Magna Carta for Women at the local level. Mrs. Maximales
highlighted the roles and responsibilities of local government units, agencies, and
organizations in ensuring these rights are upheld. She also addressed common
challenges in implementation, such as lack of awareness and cultural barriers, and
provided strategies to overcome them.
The seminar concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony. Mrs. Maximales
expressed her gratitude to the participants for their enthusiastic engagement and to the
organizers for their support. Certificates of participation were distributed, and Punong
Barangay Roel Limasa reaffirmed the barangay's commitment to supporting women's
rights and implementing the principles of the Magna Carta for Women. The seminar on
the Magna Carta for Women in Barangay Ruparan was a resounding success. It
significantly raised awareness about women's rights and provided the community with
valuable knowledge and tools to advocate for gender equality. The event empowered
participants to take action and contribute to creating a safer and more equitable
environment for all women in Barangay Ruparan.
