PROCEDURES
15.1.1 This procedure ensures when activities have been identified which can be carried out
by Appointed Persons, a detailed Electrical Work Instruction is available on site
to instruct the Appointed Person in the duty to which he has been appointed.
15.2 PREPARATION
15.2.1 It is the responsibility of the asset custodian to identify such activities which can be
carried out in a safe and responsible manner by persons having Appointed Person
status.
15.2.2 When such activities have been identified, it is the responsibility of the area Control
Person or Area Electrical Section Head to prepare an Electrical Work
Instruction for those activities in an Approved format.
15.2.4 Each instruction shall be numbered uniquely and prefixed with the operational area
code:
EWEWI - Tanak and El Ward
OMEWI - Omar and Gasplant
TMEWI – Thayyem and El Isba
15.3 CONTENT
15.3.1 When preparing an Electrical Work Instruction, it should be realised that the
intended users are Appointed Persons, who do not in general have an electrical
background or have received any prior electrical training. The Electrical Work
Instruction shall be short and concise, ideally not more than one page, and be
precise in the instructions. The use of electrical terminology shall be avoided.
The Electrical Work Instruction is typically intended for uncomplicated tasks, for
which little or no electrical knowledge is required. It shall be compiled in the
following manner.
(a) A clear title stating the objective of the Electrical Work Instruction.
(b) Permits required to carry out the tasks specified in the Electrical Work
Instruction.
(c) Precise and concise step by step instructions in chronological order.
(d) Detailed instructions on which safety precautions shall be taken e.g. the
application of Safety Padlocks and Caution Notices.
15.4 APPROVAL
15.4.1 When the Electrical Work Instruction has been prepared, the originator shall
submit it to the Operations Electrical Discipline Head who after verification, shall
approve implementation.
15.4.2 The Operations Electrical Discipline Head shall maintain a record of all Electrical
Work Instructions issued.
15.4.3 The area Control Person or Area Electrical Section Head shall ensure that a copy
of the Electrical Work Instruction is on site and available for use by the
Appointed Persons and that Appointed Persons receive proper training prior to
applying the Electrical Work Instruction.
