Diazonium salts of aromatic primary amines gives coupling reactions. Since diazonium
ion electrophile is large in size, in coupling reaction stearic factor plays important role in
the major product formation. In coupling reaction with phenol, diazonium ion majorly
attack the para carbon of phenol. In case of coupling reaction with primary aromatic
amines, tertiary aromtic amines, diazonium ion majorly attack N and para carbon
respectively. In diazocoupling with aromatic primary amines, after electrophlic attack at
nitrogen, on warming in acid again diazonium ion comes to para position.
