MESSAGE CONTENT OF THE CHAIRMAN OF HUE CITY PEOPLE’S

COMMITTE

Greetings esteemed audience,

I am Vo Le Nhat, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City,

Vietnam.

Located in Central Vietnam, Hue is an ancient capital city, a land with a

rich history, converging unique cultural quintessence and numerous cherished
traditional values of the Vietnamese people. Those unique quintessence and
values are specifically expressed through a rich cultural heritage system with
many outstanding historical monuments and architectural works that Hue still
preserves and promotes value to this day. The most typical among those are the
tangible and intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO as World
Cultural Heritage, such as the Complex of Hue Monuments (1993), Court music
- Vietnamese Royal Music (2003), Woodblocks of Nguyen Dynasty (2009),
Documents of Nguyen Dynasty (2014), and Royal Literature on Hue Royal
Architecture (2016).

Hue is not only “an ancient capital of heritage”, but also famous for its
scenic landscapes, diverse festivals, traditional handicrafts, folk art, social
customs, and beliefs. Based on its distinctive strengths in cultural heritage,
natural landscapes and especially the diversity of internationally recognized
cultural heritages types, Hue city has been and will be making effort to maintain
its position as an attractive destination, attracting numerous domestic and
international tourists for sightseeing, leisure, and exploration.

With the characteristics of a heritage city, possessing a complex of relics

of the ancient capital in the heart of a dynamically developing urban area, Hue
City aims to build a sustainable urban development based on the foundation for
preserving and promoting cultural heritage values. Heritage preservation must
therefore go hand in hand with the sustainable development of the local
economy, culture and society. This is the central task that the city of Hue always
looks forward to and is committed to implementing long-term to ensure a
harmonious relationship between conservation and development.
