FSSC 22000
FOOD SAFETY

The Foundation for Food Safety Certification (FSSC 22000) enables auditing and certification of
food safety systems of organisations which process or manufacture: perishable animal products
(i.e. meat, poultry, eggs, dairy and fish products) perishable vegetal products (i.e. fresh fruits
and fresh juices, preserved fruits, fresh vegetables, preserved vegetables) products with long
shelf life at ambient temperature (i.e. canned products, biscuits, snacks, oil, drinking water,
beverages, pasta, flour, sugar, salt) (bio)chemical manufacturing i.e. vitamins, additives and
bio-cultures (but excluding technical and technological aids) food packaging manufacturing
(i.e. direct or indirect contact with the food).

The FSSC 22000 certification scheme has been developed and is maintained by the Board of
Stakeholders of the Foundation for Food Safety Certification.

What is the certification process?


 Application for certification
 Complete the on line form for GCL INTL to send a quotation.
 Initial Certification Audit
 The assessment process is based on a 2 stage approach as follows:
 Stage 1 – a basis audit to check whether the organisation is in a state of readiness for the Stage 2
audit and inv olves the following:
 Confirm that the food safety manual conforms to the requirements of the FSSC 22000
 Confirm the scope of certification
 Check legislative, work env ironment and Infrastructure compliance
 Production of a report that identifies any non-conformity or potential for non-conformity
 Agree a corrective action plan if required
 Production of an assessment plan and confirmation of a date for the Stage 2 assessment v isit.
 Stage 2 – the purpose of this v isit is to confirm that the food safety management system fully conforms
to the requirements of FSSC 22000 in practice and inv olves the following:
 Undertake sample audits of the processes and activ ities defined in the scope of assessment
 Document how the system complies with the standard and its effectiveness
 Report any non-conformities or observ ations
 Produce an audit programme for 3 years and confirm a month and year for the first
surv eillance v isit.

INSPECTION

Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU


The Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU covers various aspects of Lift Safety and
essentially performs the dual function of:
 Promoting free movement of lifts within the Single Market
 Guaranteeing a high level of protection to lift users and

maintenance workers
 All lifts to be sold and installed in the European Union must
meet the requirements of the Lifts Directive.
The requirements of the Directive are addressed to lift installers and
components manufacturers but also have important implications for lift
owners and users.

Higg Index
Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, the Higg Index is a
suite of tools that enables brands, retailers, and facilities of all sizes at
every stage in their sustainability journey to accurately measure and
score a company or product’s sustainability performance. The Higg
Index delivers a holistic overview that empowers businesses to make
meaningful improvements that protect the well-being of factory
workers, local communities, and the environment.

Social & Labor Convergence


SLCP - The Social and Labor Convergence Program aims to bring
together unique perspectives to create an efficient, scalable and
sustainable solution for social audits. This framework includes a
standard-agnostic tool and verification methodology which collects
objective social and labor data that stakeholders can use to identify
opportunities for improvement and track progress.

PRODUCT CERTIFICATION

OCS (Organic Content Standard)


The OCS applies to any non-food product containing 5-100 % organic
material. It verifies the presence and amount of organic material in a
final product.

It addresses the flow of product within and between companies, raw


material verification, post-harvest processing, manufacturing,
packaging and labelling, storage, handling, and shipping through the
seller in the last business-to-business transaction.

It allows for transparent, consistent, and comprehensive independent


evaluation and verification of Organic Material content claims on
products by an accredited third-party Certification Body (CB).

RCS (Recycled Content Standard)

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is an international, voluntary


standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of Recycled
input and chain of custody. The goal of the RCS is to increase the use
of Recycled materials.

The Recycled Claim Standard is intended for use with any product that
contains at least 5% Recycled Material. Each stage of production is
required to be certified, beginning at the recycling stage and ending
at the last seller in the final business- to-business transaction.

The RCS does not address social or environmental aspects of


processing and manufacturing, quality, or legal compliance.

GRS (Global Recycled Standard)


The GRS is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets
out requirements for third-party certification of recycled content,
chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical
restrictions.

The goal of the GRS is to increase use of recycled materials in products


and reduce/eliminate the harm caused by its production.
