3.3 Introduction:

11 | P a g e
This work placement aimed to introduce and familiarize the student with the building
environment in the natural world. To show them how things work in a group on a practical level.
It is time to demonstrate the skills I have shown throughout my educational career, regardless of
what I have studied academically. Learning is a process that lasts a lifetime. This summer, I was
placed at MIRAL Company to familiarize myself with the construction environment and
industry, notably in the United Arab Emirates. It was an eight-week work placement program in
which I was shown, tested, and advised on the nature of construction work and related topics
such as execution, dangers, and safety, among other things.

Work Environment

It was a specific type of employment, such as design office and site supervision. My working
hours were from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
I have two points I work on it:
1. In the office work, I was talking about building drawings and accounting principles like
Project Management and Quantity. I showed a few construction drawings to get an idea of
what the graphics look like after printing and how to properly proofread the construction
project, knowing what infrastructure, soil, site surviving, etc.
2. 2. While the site implementation was more realistic, I noticed the infrastructure, including
how the construction, civil process, and civil facilities were analyzed in a project, SeaWorld,
as I observed the practical application of the working drawings.

SeaWorld Project

Miral engaged AECOM to undertake Lead Design Consultancy services for the SeaWorld Abu
Dhabi (SWAD) project on August 26th, 2018. This report summarizes the progress of the design
up to 100% Stage 4 and the activities undertaken to date, in the formal Stage 4 Progress
Submission Deliverable.

12 | P a g e
SeaWorld San Antonio was one of the first SeaWorld parks ever to open and is heralded as the
largest of the parks. It measures a colossal 416 acres! It's recommended that you need at least
two days to walk around the park and do all the attractions, potentially more in busy periods.

This is a thorough explanation of this enormous project.

Level 1 (Ground):
This level mainly comprises of staff area, back-of-house facilities, and an R4 research center,
and serves as the main guest entry point from parking, luggage scanning, and security check
area. The back-of-house facilities include warehousing for food services, retail, and games,
holding areas for animals as well as MEP plant and equipment rooms. The engineering and park
support service offices are also located at this level.

13 | P a g e
Level 2:
This level is comprised of staff and support areas with a portion allocated to guest spaces which
include exhibition areas, the Sea Lion Stadium, Rays Exhibition area, Tropical Play Climber, and
Animal Care Guest Viewing windows.

Level 3:
This level is the main guest ticket entry, experience, and circulation area of the park with access
to attractions such as the Sea Lion Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, Pearl Dive Stadium, aviary, and
various retail, and Food and Beverage outlets. The level also contains ticket counters, group
sales, luggage scanning, and a security check area.

levels 4 and 5:
These levels include portions of the Endless Ocean and Polar Ocean attractions / Realms, entry
to the upper seating area for the Sea Lion Stadium, dining areas, and MEP rooms. The 'Sea Walk
experience is also accessed from level 5.

Level 5
Roof: As per the current design at the beginning of Work Stage 3, the roof level of the building
includes only Mechanical Penthouses and exhaust fans.

There will be different types and sizes and gender of animals around the world in the sea world
project an example:

14 | P a g e
 Dolphins
 Pacific walrus
 Californian sea lion
 Dugong
 Penguin
 Sharks

The steel frame in Sea World is 5m high and it was composed of linear steel elements bolted
together.
The steel members have approximately 0.25m diameters.
Steel frame buildings are metal structures, consisting, Steel beams and vertical columns, welded
together in a rectangular grid to support the floors, walls, and roofs of buildings. Steel frame
structures are used to form the 'skeletal frame' which a building is then constructed around.
Steel frame construction is steadily increasing its market share in the construction
and civil engineering sector. Steel frame construction is a good option for a
diversity of projects for many reasons, including:
 Durability- The components included makes steel sustain more structural weight and last
longer than the wooden ones.
 Sustainability- once it is made, it can be used forever.

 Faster Build Time- steel parts are prefabricated, there are already follow the
respective code standards and dimensions. Therefore, your engineers do not have to
worry about the quality of each piece.
 Lightweight - the density of steel with the density of wood, steel is heavier.
 Eco-Friendly- completely recycled the materials.
 Easy Fabrication- Steel parts are easily fabricated in a variety of shapes and sizes.
 Hybrids with Other Building Materials many construction companies offer hybrid steel
and wood buildings which take advantage of the insulation properties of steel and wood.

15 | P a g e
PRE-CAST REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES. The bolted joint connections helped
the frame to act as a monolithic structure so that the moments are transferred with no risks down
to the bottom members.

The reinforcement of concrete is often accomplished with the use of steel reinforcement bars or
rebars, but it can also be done by using additional concrete passively. Reinforced concrete is
used for construction on a large scale, such as bridges, dams, piers, tall buildings, and stadiums.
Below are the Different Types of Reinforced Concrete:

• [1] REINFORCED CEMENT CONCRETE (RCC)

• [2] REINFORCED BRICK CONCRETE (RBC)

• [3] FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE (FRC)

• [4] PRESTRESSED CONCRETE

16 | P a g e
The cement is stored on top of the wood because the adhesive should be protected from water.
The material is important to minimize the risks of potentially life-threatening incidents.

Below are points to keep in mind when storing cement –

 Keep cement in a dry, leak-proof, and moisture-proof environment.

 Doors and windows must be kept closed.

 Bags must be stacked on a wooden plank or on a strong tarpaulin at 6 inches above the
ground.

Store Cement Bags On A Wooden Plank At 6 Inches Above The Ground

 Bags must be stacked at least one foot away from the walls.

 The width of the stack must not be more than the length of 4 bags or 3 meters.

17 | P a g e
 The height of the stack should not be more than 10 bags.

 Bags must be kept close to each other to prevent the circulation of air.

 Cover the cement with tarpaulins or plastic sheets in monsoons or when it is required
to be stored for a longer time.

 HDPE and paper bags must be stored separately.

 Do not use hooks to lift cement bags.

 Always use cement in the first-in, first-out method.

Cost control
The Project cost plan includes the schedule of costs to be incurred during the project and the
associated estimates. These are the expenses that are anticipated to be incurred when project
activities are finished. The cost plan is created after the resource plan and activity schedule
because they feed into it. The project manager is aware of the specifics of the project as a
consequence of the project planning activities, allowing for the project budget to be refined.
Examples of Cost Control:
 Renegotiating contracts with more favorable terms.
 Getting more competitive bids from different vendors.
 Improving product quality to reduce rework and scrap.
 Reducing the number of items carried in inventory.
 Reducing employee expenses with better expense management.
 Accounts payable outsourcing.

18 | P a g e
3.4
One of the problems I encountered when training at Miral was that the engineers explained
and worked on specialty materials that I hadn't taken yet (Project Management and Quantity).
In this case, I told the engineers about this, and they helped and showed me new information
and a simplified explanation about those two materials.
Their information will help me next semester when I take Project Management and Quantity.

,Dear Miral company

I am writing this letter to extend my warm thanks to you for hosting my internship for a period of
two months. These two months have been a period of great learning and valuable experience for
me and I hope that I was also able to add some value to your company with my work.

Although I studied every aspect of Civil Engineering for my BCVET, working for you helped
me grasp the practical part of the subject. Applying my academic understanding of civil law has
improved because of our work together.

It has been a good opportunity for me to learn, and I will be able to use this knowledge to my
advantage in the future. And I hope I may land a job with a reputable company like Miral
Company.

The unique relationships I have developed with my team over the past few months will be
missed, as will the entire team. Reuniting with this fantastic company in the future would be
wonderful.

Thanking you.
Yours sincerely,
Mariam Almemari
