Position Title: Commissioning Engineer

1. Key Purpose Statement (A brief but complete statement describing why the position
exists):
This position is responsible for technical direction and supervision leadership for safely site
activities of installation, operational maintenance, testing, commissioning and startup activities of
Steam Turbines and its auxilaries system accordance with engineering best practice and
contractual work scope requirements with coordination to DSPW/SPPL projetc office.

3. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required


a) Knowledge and Experience Required: (Specific academic qualifications, length and type of
experience required to perform competently)
 Knowledge of Dismantling, inspection, realignment, assembly and commissioning of steam
turbines components.
 Knowledge of steam turbine erection activities.
 Knowledge of commissioning and testing activities of oil steam, HP Hydraulic system,
vibration monitoring system, control system activities.
 Knowledge of commissioning and testing of steam turbine cycle equipment’s; like heaters,
condenser, pumps, vacuum system etc.
 Ability to estimate / decide the requirement of spares for machines
 Ability to maintain adequate Documentation for turbine technical data before dismantling, at
time of assembly and re-commissioning etc.
 To ensure that the order received from customer for spares and service are technically clear
 Knowledge in pre commissioning activities for steam turbines and in turbine tripping systems
(hydraulic, mechanical and electrical etc)
b) Qualifications, trainings and skills required.
 Diploma/ B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering/ NPTI (National power training Institutes),
 Minimum 6-8 for Diploma/ 5-7 years, for B.Tech /NPTI. Of years in field technical services of
turbine.
4. Key Responsibilities

 Provide general technical direction and assistance to customers in the operation,
maintenance, repair, safe handling and installation of the steam turbines.
 Communicating effectively with Service / Installation Managers, Site Manager and
customer’s manager for job planning and execution.
 To lead and technically direct skilled labor to perform the work on customer sites.
 To provide input for Daily Outage and Weekly Installation Reports.
 In this role the person will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply
concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action
or short-term planning.
 To Prepare timely and accurate technical reports for customer records and a reference
for future outages.
 Make recommendations on findings, reviewing effectiveness of maintenance actions in
order to identify future needs.
 To lead and execute unit commissioning single handedly, start-up and performance tests
ensuring proper and safe operation of the machine by evaluating the running parameters
and troubleshoot problem as they arise during work.
 Assist Project office, customers in scheduling maintenance and workload assuring that
equipment and parts requirements meet established schedules.
 To ensure all field activities carried out safely complying with company Environmental
Health and Safety guidelines and procedures.

a) Decisions expected:
Decision regarding technical requirement for time of erection, commissioning, overhauling and
Troubleshooting of turbines.
b) Recommendations expected:
 Recommendation regarding selection of noncritical spares, planning to development of
roadmap for localization of same
 Recommendation regarding development of field technical team for erection, commissioning,
Overhaul and troubleshooting.
c) Key Challenges:
 Successful communication with clients regarding efficient technology
 To build efficient team with good climate
 To bring expertise which could be efficiently used in SPPL
