Transcultural

Define transcultural nursing.


Being sensitive to cultural variations while concentrating on individual patients, their needs, and their
preferences is what it means to practice transcultural nursing. Asking your patients about their culture,
their values, and any associated medical practices will demonstrate your respect for them. They'll
appreciate your openness and interest, and the majority of them will be glad to share more about their
culture with you.

The transcultural approach enables student nurses to widen their experiences and perspectives while

student nurse at hospitals, I have noticed that we must have the skills that acquire being culturally
sensitive because not all patients are the same.

tradition and practices, how would you demonstrate a culturally competent nurse.

In the country of Tanzania, the use of alternative medicines, herbal treatments, and folk remedies is
common in their cultures and eating raw foods for a fast recovering of their wound . If I were a nurse in
the said country, I will make sure to ask my patient if he or she takes vitamins, herbal treatments,
dietary supplements or other alternative or complementary medicines. Also, in order to help build a
trusting relationship, I’ll be respectful of native healers on whom my patient may also rely.
