Entertainment in Vietnam is a great mixture of traditional and contemporary styles.

Along with economic development, the globalization process has changed the
atmosphere of entertainment in the country swiftly.

In big cities, sports clubs, discotheque, and nightclubs... are on the list of
entertainment. Karaoke attacked the country around the 1990s and has become very
popular now. But over time, the old venues like tea houses or drama theaters can’t
satisfy young people. They have been replaced by coffee shops and modern cinemas
with diverse and creative decorations.

Like most countries around the world, entertainment destinations like shopping malls,
parks, museums and cinemas,... are the most popular with people. There are also many
people who like walking on walking streets or visiting famous places like Hoan Kiem
Lake or The old Towns in Hanoi.

Music festivals and fairs are recently emerging entertainment activities. In Hanoi and
Ho Chi Minh, international concerts attract thousands of people to join. Music events
receive the attention of many people, from large-scale events like “City of miracle” to
small-scale events that are held on walking streets. Fairs that are held every month
also get a lot of attention.

Entertainment activities not only help people relax but also bring harmful
consequences. Holding entertainment events on walking streets requires authorities to
block some roads. This makes movement difficult and inconvenient.

Entertainment activities can lead to noise pollution and garbage pollution after each
event.

These problems create significant obstacles to the development of entertainment

activities in Vietnam.

Although there are many factors for development, entertainment activities in Vietnam
still face some major challenges. Space shortage is one of the difficult problems. In
urban areas where there are enough conditions to develop entertainment, vacant land
space is scarce. In suburban areas where commercial centers and entertainment
destinations can be built, transportation is an obstacle because it is inconvenient for
people who don’t have their own vehicles.

In our country, many music festivals have recently attracted the attention of a large
public, bringing many positive effects. However, Investment and promotion policies
for these music events are quite limited, some events are even canceled on the same
day due to insufficient organization funds. Besides, the slow issuance of
organizational licenses is also a big challenge to organizing. The lack of experience
also leads to incomplete programs, causing a loss of audiences' support.

Policies that are set by the government have a direct and strong influence on
entertainment activities. It can impact the scale and form of entertainment facilities.
For example, when realizing the great potential of entertainment services from
walking streets and concerts, the government has introduced policies to expand
walking streets and proposed focusing on development for the music industry.
Another example is the Mega Grand World amusement park. It can be clearly seen
that after witnessing the fabulous attraction from entertainment activities early last
year, compared to the gloominess of previous entertainment services, the government
has promoted the entertainment service industry, making it more diverse and creative.
On the other hand, strict policies are also a difficult door in importing forms of
entertainment in Vietnam.

With a rich culture, entertainment activities in Vietnam also vary by locality. In big
cities like Hanoi and Saigon, shopping centers and amusement parks will be given
priority to develop. In localities that are rich in natural resources such as Nha Trang
and Da Nang, the business of beaches and resorts is an advantage. Ninh Binh and
Quang Nam provinces focus on developing cultural heritage like Trang An complex
and Hoi An ancient town. The unique culture and rich natural resources stretched
across all parts of the country have created diverse forms of entertainment activities in
different regions, blending modernity and tradition.
