Step 2: Top and Bottom Shelf Assembly

• The top and bottom shelves of the wine rack are the same. You will need 2 x 375mm x 50mm
x 25mm boards and 5 x 300mm x 19mm x 19mm timbers for each.
• Ensure there is 70mm between each 19mm x 19mm timber
• Secure using 30mm screws or brad nails. Ensure to predrill all the holes first if you are using
screws.

4
Step 3: Middle Shelves Assembly

• The six middle shelves of the wine rack are the same. You will need 2 x 375mm x 50mm x
25mm boards and 10 x 300mm x 19mm x 19mm timbers for each.
• Ensure there is 70mm between each 19mm x 19mm timber.
• Secure using 30mm screws or brad nails. Ensure to predrill all the holes first if you are using

Step 4: Sanding

• Sand all the shelves and the 956mm timbers using 120 grit sanding disks to remove any
rough surfaces or writing from the timber. You should spend between 10-20 minutes on this
depending on how rough your timber was.
• You can then move onto a finer sanding disk, such as a 220 grit or higher and begin sanding
all the parts to make sure it is smooth and ready to be stained/painted.
• Once all sanding is finished, you should vacuum all the sawdust from the timber.
• Use a tack cloth to wipe down all the parts. This will remove fine dust particles and prepare
the wood for staining.

Step 5: Staining:

• Before staining, it is important to apply a wood sealer to the timber, this will prevent the
stain from blotching once it is applied to the wood.
• Use a rag or old t-shirt to apply the wood sealer in circular motions, follow the
manufacturer’s instructions for best results.
• Once all the parts have been sealed and allowed to dry you can now apply a stain of your
choice.
• Again, use an old t-shirt or rag to apply the stain in circular motions and once the wood is
stained all over, remove any excess stain using a rag or cloth. If excess stain is applied it
won’t dry in the same way as paint would, it simply sits on the surface and therefore needs
to be removed.
• Once all parts are stained and dry, you can use a tack cloth to remove any dust particles.
• The final step of the staining process is to apply a coat of polyurethane once the stain is dry
using a paint brush (or sprayed on if you bought the spray version of polyurethane, either is
fine).

Step 6: Securing the Shelves

• Once the stain is dry, secure the bottom shelf to the 4 x 956mm x 50mm x 25mm boards
using 60mm decking screws.
• Ensure the bottom of the shelf is flush with the bottom of the 956mm boards and predrill
the holes before securing.

8
Step 7: Securing the Shelves

• Secure the first of the middle shelves, ensure there is a 70mm gap between the top of the
19mm x 19mm timbers of the bottom shelf and the bottom of the 19mm x 19mm timbers of
the middle shelf.
• Secure using 60mm decking screws and predrilling the holes beforehand.

9
Step 8: Securing the Shelves

• Secure the rest of the middle shelves ensuring there is a 70mm gap between all the shelves
as was done in the previous step.
• Secure using 60mm decking screws and predrilling the holes beforehand.

Step 9: Securing the Shelves

• Secure the top shelf to the 4 x 956mm x 50mm x 25mm boards using 60mm decking screws.
