In Uganda, we implement programs in five thematic areas of Child Protection, Child Rights
Governance, Education, Child Poverty, Health and Nutrition in development and emergency contexts.
Save the Children delivers programs in 30 districts in the West Nile &Northern, Eastern, Western and
Central Regions of Uganda.

Save the Children International Uganda is looking to source for candidates to fill these volunteer
opportunities within West Nile & Northern Region

Position: Community Based Volunteers (7 per District)


Project: SBCC
Location Moyo, Obongi, Madi-Okollo, Arua, Terego, Adjumani, Yumbe and
Koboko.
Duration: 6 Months
Areas of Support The Community Based Volunteer will ensure quality field
implementation of integrated SBCC, VSLA, and Micro project
interventions; and will substantially contribute to generating stakeholder
inputs in project implementation, support execution of developed work
plans, and suitable measurement. He / She will, therefore, have the
following key responsibilities:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:


 Support in Care group activities of all Nutri-Cash beneficiaries
within the District as per standards and guidelines and Conduct
follow-up, mentorship, and supervision of Care group sessions, and
roll-out.
 Work with CDOs/Health Assistants/VHTs/CFs to Coordinate, and
monitor SBCC and VSLA Care group activities, ensuring Care group
volunteers attend monthly sessions and consequently cascade the
sessions to neighbor women.
 Support Local level awareness raising on the 7 thematic behaviors
aimed at promoting; 1) optimal breastfeeding, 2) complimentary
feeding, 3) health care for children aged 0-23 months, 4) healthcare
for pregnant women, 5) water, sanitation and hygiene, 6) social
protection, and 7) food security/production (These are part of the
priority Maternal, Infant, Young Child & Adolescent Nutrition
(MIYCAN) practices).
 Conduct regular community dialogues with beneficiary communities
to get regular feedback on the program.
 Provide health education sessions and promotion at events such as
Cash distribution points, registration points, social mobilization
points, and where necessary.

 Maintain Nutri-cash beneficiary records and produce regular activity


updates
 Documentation of success stories and Best practices
 Ensure availability of VSLA/BCC/ASRH IEC materials for care
group activities.

 Maintain relations with communities in area of intervention and


identify relevant beneficiaries for services or referral.
 Weekly reporting of activities to the SBCC officer and Participating
in developing joint weekly activity plans and reports from
implementation.
 Participate in collecting and managing complaints and feedback in
close coordination with the MEAL team using the established CSSP
Community Accountability and Response Mechanisms (CARM).
 Ensure regular monitoring of program results, documentation of case
studies/ stories, lessons learned, significant stories of impact, and
best practices.
 Support project monitoring and evaluation processes as appropriate
in the provision and documentation of project data

Person EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


specifications  At least O level certificate or equivalent
 Accrued working experience (1-3 years), in a related field and
demonstrated experience in the implementation of community projects
and working in field-based teams.
 Good knowledge of working with and through local existing structures
i.e. community leaders, cultural leaders, youth/ women’s associations,
etc.
 Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
 Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and
perform effectively as a member of a team.
 Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in a
multi-cultured environment with people from diverse beliefs and
cultural backgrounds.
 Skills in implementation and use of behavioral change communication
strategy to drive behavior adoption is essential.
 Demonstrated ability to train and mentor community structures on
interpersonal communication (IPC) and participatory group facilitation
skills and strategies is desired.
 Demonstrated ability to coordinate the implementation of SBCC
activities including behavior change campaigns, and community
engagement.
 Fluent oral and strong analytical, and written English communication
skills is required.
 Demonstrates Save the Children’s core values of accountability,
collaboration, integrity, ambition, and creativity.
 Willingness to be based at the duty station is a must.
