UNIT 4: INDEPENDENT LEARNING TASK

PART ONE
Search for information and make notes on the theories below. Take note of
what they say about child development and education. Find out what is the
implication of these theories in the learning and teaching of mathematic to
you as a teacher. BE IN GROUP OF 5 MEMBERS EACH

3. Van Hiele’s (1991) theory of geometric thinking
Briefly discuss the key ideas Van Hiele’s (1991) theory
Modes of learning, according to Van Hiele’s (1991) theory
How do you apply the ideas of Van Hiele’s (1991) theory in the learning and teaching
of mathematics.
4. Kilpatrick et al.’s (2001) Theory
Briefly discuss the key ideas in Kilpatrick et al.’s theory
Kilpatrick et al.’s (2001) strand of mathematical proficiency. How do you apply the ideas of
Kilpatrick and his followers in the learning and teaching of mathematics.
5. Lindsey Shorser’s interpretation of Bloom’s Taxonomy
Briefly discuss the key ideas Lindsey Shorser interprets Bloom’s Taxonomy in the
teaching and learning of mathematics.
How do you apply the ideas of Lindsey Shorser in the learning and teaching of
mathematics.
Search for information from Google scholar, Research gate, WSU library, WSU online
Library, etc.
UNIT 4: INDEPENDENT LEARNING TASK
PART TWO
Now that you have managed to gather information as instructed in Part One, form
groups of three members each and share the collected information with the members
of the group.

After each member has shared his/her findings compile one report based on the Topic.
You must have a scriber who is responsible for the compilation of the summary
from different individuals in the group.
The two members of the group will be the presenters, one member the timekeeper
and the last one be the coordinator.
You are free to use either the chart or PowerPoint for the presentation.

After all the presentations are done, there must be Whole class discussion on the
Topic. The discussion MUST centre on the implications of the Theories to the Learning
and Teaching of mathematics.

The presentation will be done on 5th of October 2023.
