TITLE
ATA 62 – MAIN ROTOR BLADE ASSY UPGRADE

REVISION LOG
Helicopters/components that have complied with the previous issues of this Service Bulletin
do not need any additional action.
Revision A of this Service Bulletin was created to:
 update main rotor blades effectivity S/Ns, reporting the proper manufacturer serial
numbers actually marked on the blade/relevant log card and including an explanatory
note in the effectivity field.
 update accomplishment instructions.
Revision B of this Service Bulletin has been created to add specific conditions in the trim
tab and cover replacement procedure that allow to avoid the static balance requirement.
Revision bars on the outer margin identify changes.

An appropriate entry should be made in the aircraft log book upon accomplishment.
If ownership of aircraft has changed, please, forward to new owner.

1. PLANNING INFORMATION

A. EFFECTIVITY

NOTE
Main rotor blade S/N may be composed of either three
or four digits, possibly preceded and/or followed by
letters. For the purpose of the present instructions, only
valid numerical characters are considered, neglecting
letters. Possible examples follow:
 S/N R2010 will be referred to as S/N 2010;
 S/N Q1458 will be referred to as S/N 1458;
 S/N AW4006 will be referred to as S/N 4006;
 S/N R1758 will be referred to as S/N 1758.
 All main rotor blade assemblies P/N 3G6210A00131 and P/N 3G6210A00134
up to S/N 3933 or with one of the following S/Ns: 3942, 3943, 3944, 3945, 3946,
3947, 3970, 3971, 3979, 3980, 3981.
 All main rotor blade assemblies P/N 4G6210A00132 up to S/N 571.

B. COMPLIANCE
At Customer's option.

C. CONCURRENT REQUIREMENTS

D. REASON
This Service Bulletin is issued to provide the necessary instructions to perform the
main rotor blade assy upgrade retromod P/N 3G6210P00111.

E. DESCRIPTION
This Service Bulletin has been issued to perform main rotor blade assy upgrade, thus
preventing possible corrosion issues.

NOTE
A mixed configuration on the same blade of Steel Trim
Tab and Aluminium Trim Tab is NOT allowed. Blades
with steel tabs are mixable with blades with aluminum
tabs on the same helicopter.

Part I of this Service Bulletin provides all necessary instructions for:
 replacement of existing upper inboard trim tab P/N 3G6210A01451 and lower
inboard trim tab P/N 3G6210A01551 with the stainless steel inboard trim tab assy
P/N 3G6210Z00132;
 replacement of existing upper outboard trim tab P/N 3G6210A03851 and lower
outboard trim tab P/N 3G6210A03951 with the stainless steel outboard trim tab
assy P/N 3G6210Z00232;
 replacement of existing pocket cover P/N 3G6210A01151 with the titanium one
P/N 3G6210A01152.

NOTE
Only Authorized Manufacturer (III level) can perform
operations described in Part II of this Service Bulletin.
Part II of this Service Bulletin provides all necessary instructions for replacement of
existing lightning bonding strip assy P/N 3G6210A02231 and existing bonding mesh
P/N 4G6210A01551 with the lightning bonding strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232 and the
bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01552.

F. APPROVAL
The technical content of this Service Bulletin is approved under the authority of DOA
nr. EASA.21.J.005. For helicopters registered under other Aviation Authorities, before
applying the Service Bulletin, applicable Aviation Authority approval must be checked
within Leonardo Helicopters customer portal.
EASA states mandatory compliance with inspections, modifications or technical
directives and related time of compliance by means of relevant Airworthiness
Directives.
If an aircraft listed in the effectivity embodies a modification or repair not LHD certified
and affecting the content of this Service Bulletin, it is responsibility of the
Owner/Operator to obtain a formal approval by Aviation Authority having jurisdiction on
the aircraft, for any adaptation necessary before incorporation of the present Service
Bulletin.

G. MANPOWER
To comply with this Service Bulletin the following MMH are deemed necessary:
Part I: approximately seven (7) MMH (for a single main rotor blade), main rotor track
and balance excluded;
Part II: approximately seven (7) MMH (for a single main rotor blade).
MMH are based on hands-on time and can change with personnel and facilities
available.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL NOTES
a) Place an identification tag on all components that
are re-usable, including the attaching hardware that
has been removed to gain access to the
modification area and adequately protect them until
their later re-use.
b) Let adhesive cure at room temperature for at least
24 hours unless otherwise specified. Part is flyable
after 5/7 days.
c) Move longitudinally when using abrasive paper on
the erosion shield.
d) All lengths are in mm.

PART I

NOTE
Steps 1 thru 3 are required if Part I is performed at
Maintenance II level.
1. Check the amount of the blade tip balance weights:
1.1 If the static balance sheet is available and weight data are recorded on the static
balance sheet, go to step 3.
1.2 If the static balance sheet is not available or if it is available and weight data are
not recorded, perform following step 2.
2. Record the amount of the blade tip balance weights according to the following
procedure:
2.1 In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-06A-921A-A and with reference to
Figure 6 detail B, remove the pocket cover P/N 3G6210A01151; check existing
hardware and keep it for later re-use, if in good condition.
2.2 Remove the blade tip balance weights in accordance with Annex A.
2.3 Perform the weights measurement by means of an applicable weight scale.
3. Check the amount of the blade tip balance weights read at step 1.1 or recorded at step
2.3:
3.1 If the amount of the weights is greater or equal to 55 g, go to step 4 to proceed
with trim tab replacement.

NOTE
If the amount of the weights is less than 55 g, the main
rotor blade static balance is required after trim tab
replacement. Only Authorized Manufacturer (III level)
can perform the static balance of the main rotor blade.
3.2 If the amount of the weights is less than 55 g, proceed according to the following
procedure:
3.2.1 In accordance with Annex A install the balance weights, if previously
removed.
3.2.2 In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-06A-921A-A and with
reference to Figure 6 detail B, re-install the existing pocket cover, if
previously removed, by means of n°6 screws P/N NAS1189E3P5.
Torque to 15-20 Kg*cm (13.3 thru 17.7 lbf in). Apply sealant MC780
AWMS05-001 type I class A grade 2 only under the screws head.
3.2.3 Send the main rotor blade to the Authorized Manufacturer (III level) for
trim tab replacement.

NOTE
A mixed configuration on the same blade of steel trim
tab and aluminium trim tab is NOT allowed. Blades
with steel tabs are mixable with blades with aluminum
tabs on the same helicopter.
4. With reference to Figure 1, carefully remove paint from the inboard trim tabs (BLADE
STA 2760) and surrounding area for 50 mm in width on lower and upper blade surfaces
with gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 180 grit to 320 grit or more.

NOTE
Performing following step 5, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
5. With reference to Figure 1, clean the areas where paint has been removed with a soft
lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).
6. With reference to Figure 2, protect the upper and lower blade surfaces with aluminum
tape all around the trim.

NOTE
The following steps 7 thru 9 allow removal of upper
and lower inboard trim tab using thermochromic paint.
Skip to step 10 for alternative allowed procedure.

NOTE
Performing following step 7, let the CT-150 paint dry
for 4 hours.
7. With reference to Figure 2, apply n°2 layers of thermochromic paint CT-150 on upper
and lower blade surfaces cleaned in previous step 5 overlapping the aluminum tape area
for 25 mm in width.

CAUTION
Performing following steps 8 and 9, make sure that the
thermochromic paint CT-150 does NOT become
brown.
8. With reference to Figures 1 and 2, heat with a heat gun the upper inboard trim tab
P/N 3G6210A01451 and carefully remove it with a spatula (flexible - rounded corners)
when the thermochromic paint CT-150 becomes green.
9. With reference to Figures 1 and 2, heat with a heat gun the lower inboard trim tab
P/N 3G6210A01551 and carefully remove it with a spatula (flexible - rounded corners)
when the thermochromic paint CT-150 becomes green.

NOTE
The following steps 10 thru 12 are an alternative
solution to upper and lower inboard trim tab remove
procedure described at steps 7 thru 9.
10. Cut the part of the trim tab that protrudes from the trailing edge.
11. Decrease the thickness of the remaining part of the trim tab. Use a grinding wheel or a
sand disk until you get only a thin foil.
12. Remove this thin foil by peeling. Perform this operation correctly along the blade chord,
follow the fiber direction of the thin foil (start from the skin side, and then continue to the
trailing edge).
13. Remove the aluminum tape from the upper and lower blade surfaces.

CAUTION
Performing following step 14, make sure NOT to
damage the stiffener (layer of glass fiber), the surface
of the blade skin (layers of
uni-directional graphite) and the metallic mesh.

NOTE
It is allowed to keep halos of adhesive, shown by a
light red color on the stiffener surface (see Figure 3),
to ensure the integrity of the underlying composite
surfaces. Performing following step 14, do not remove
the layer of glass fiber.
14. With reference to Figure 3, remove the adhesive with gradually finer abrasive paper
starting from 180 grit on upper and lower blade surfaces. Refer to AMP
DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-66AD-B if the metallic meshes are damaged during the
operation: replace them using P/N 3G6210A03452 for lower bonding mesh and
P/N 3G6210A03552 for upper bonding mesh, by means of EA956NA adhesive.

NOTE
Performing following step 15, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
15. With reference to Figure 3, clean the areas without adhesive with a soft lint-free cloth
soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).
16. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-31AA-B, inspect the areas of blades
without adhesive for voids or damages. If allowable limits
have been exceeded, contact AW139 Customer Support Engineering
(cse.aw139.aw@leonardocompany.com).

NOTE
Performing following step 17, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
17. Remove the peel ply from the internal and external surfaces of the inboard trim tab assy
P/N 3G6210Z00132 and clean the internal surface with gradually finer abrasive paper
starting from 180 grit to 320 grit or more. Clean the internal side with a soft lint-free cloth
soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).

NOTE
Performing following step 18, correctly position the
inboard trim tab assy P/N 3G6210Z00132 on the
blade’s trailing edge, centred on the STA2760 and at
the indicated distance from the trailing edge line.
18. With reference to Figures 1 and 4, install the inboard trim tab assy P/N 3G6210Z00132
on the blade by means of n°1 layer of adhesive AWMS08-001, Type I, Form 292K.
19. Cure the adhesive as described in the following procedure:
19.1 Apply the thermocouple on the blade skin.

19.2 Apply the heating blanket.
19.3 Prepare and apply the vacuum bag.

NOTE
Performing following step 19.4, make sure that the
pressure over the entire bonding area is constant
during the cure cycle.
The cure time starts when the affected area arrives at
the necessary temperature for curing.
19.4 Be careful to cure at:
⎯ TEMPERATURE: 104 to 110 °C;
⎯ TIME: at least 120 minutes;
⎯ PRESSURE: 0.6 to 0.8 kg/cm2.
19.5 Remove the vacuum bag, the heating blanket and the thermocouple.
20. Remove the excessive adhesive from the trim tab outline.
21. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-31AA-B, inspect the areas of trim tab
for debonding, voids or damages.
Debondings within the following limits below are allowed:
- maximum chordwise dimension: 5 mm;
- maximum spanwise dimension: 5 mm;
- minimum distance from trim tab edge: at least 20 mm;
- max n°2 debondings for each side (upper and lower).
If allowable limits have been exceeded, contact AW139 Customer Support
Engineering (cse.aw139.aw@leonardocompany.com).
22. With reference to Figure 5, apply sealant AWMS05-001 type I, class B, grade 2 on the
outline of inboard trim tab assy P/N 3G6210Z00132.
23. With reference to Figure 1, carefully remove paint from the outboard trim tabs (BLADE
STA 5175) and surrounding area for 50 mm in width on lower and upper blade surfaces
with gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 180 grit to 320 grit or more.

NOTE
Performing following step 24, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
24. With reference to Figure 1, clean the areas where paint will be applied with a soft
lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).
25. With reference to Figure 2, protect the upper and lower blade surfaces with aluminum
tape all around the trim.

NOTE
The following steps 26 thru 28 allow removal of upper
and lower outboard trim tab using thermochromic paint.
Skip to step 29 for alternative allowed procedure.

NOTE
Performing following step 26, let the CT-150 paint dry
for 4 hours.
26. With reference to Figure 2, apply n°2 layers of thermochromic paint CT-150 on upper
and lower blade surfaces cleaned in previous step 5 overlapping the aluminum tape area
for 25 mm in width.

CAUTION
Performing following steps 27 and 28, make sure that
the thermochromic paint CT-150 does NOT become
brown.
27. With reference to Figures 1 and 2, heat with a heat gun the upper outboard trim tab
P/N 3G6210A03851 and carefully remove it with a spatula (flexible - rounded corners)
when the thermochromic paint CT-150 becomes green.
28. With reference to Figures 1 and 2, heat with a heat gun the lower outboard trim tab
P/N 3G6210A03951 and carefully remove it with a spatula (flexible - rounded corners)
when the thermochromic paint CT-150 becomes green.

NOTE
The following steps 29 thru 31 are an alternative
solution to upper and lower inboard trim tab remove
procedure described at steps 26 thru 28.
29. Cut the part of the trim tab that protrudes from the trailing edge.
30. Decrease the thickness of the remaining part of the trim tab. Use a grinding wheel or a
sand disk until you get only a thin foil.
31. Remove this thin foil by peeling. Perform this operation correctly along the blade chord,
follow the fiber direction of the thin foil (start from the skin side, and then continue to the
trailing edge).
32. Remove the aluminum tape from the upper and lower blade surfaces.

CAUTION
Performing following step 33, make sure NOT to
damage the stiffener (layer of glass fiber), the surface

of the blade skin (layers of uni-directional graphite) and
the metallic mesh.

NOTE
It is allowed to keep halos of adhesive, shown by a
light red color on the stiffener surface (see Figure 3), to
ensure the integrity of the underlying composite
surfaces. Performing following step 33, do not remove
the layer of glass fiber.
33. With reference to Figure 3, remove the adhesive with gradually finer abrasive paper
starting from 180 grit on upper and lower blade surfaces. Refer to AMP
DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-66AD-B if the metallic meshes are damaged during the
operation: replace them using P/N 3G6210A03452 for lower bonding mesh and
P/N 3G6210A03552 for upper bonding mesh, by means of EA956NA adhesive.

NOTE
Performing following step 34, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
34. With reference to Figure 3, clean the areas without adhesive with a soft lint-free cloth
soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).
35. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-31AA-B, inspect the areas of blades
without adhesive for voids or damages. If allowable limits have been exceeded contact

36. Remove the peel ply from the internal and external surfaces of the outboard trim tab
assy P/N 3G6210Z00232 and clean the internal surface with gradually finer abrasive
paper starting from 180 grit to 320 grit or more. Clean the internal side with a soft
lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).

NOTE
Performing following step 37, correctly position the
outboard trim tab assy P/N 3G6210Z00232 on the
blade’s trailing edge, centred on the STA5175 and at
the indicated distance from the trailing edge line.
37. With reference to Figures 1 and 4, install the outboard trim tab assy P/N 3G6210Z00232
on the blade by means of n°1 layer of adhesive AWMS08-001, Type I, Form 292K.

38. Cure the adhesive as described on the following procedure:
38.1 Apply the thermocouple on the blade skin.
38.2 Apply the heating blanket.
38.3 Prepare and apply the vacuum bag.

NOTE
Performing following step 38.4, make sure that the
pressure over the entire bonding area is constant
during the cure cycle.
The cure time starts when the affected area arrives at
the necessary temperature for curing.
38.4 Be careful to cure at:
⎯ TEMPERATURE: 104 to 110 °C;
⎯ TIME: at least 120 minutes;
⎯ PRESSURE: 0.6 to 0.8 kg/cm2.
38.5 Remove the vacuum bag, the heating blanket and the thermocouple.
39. Remove the excessive adhesive from the trim tab outline.
40. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-31AA-B, inspect the areas of trim tab
for debonding, voids or damages.
Debondings within the following limits below are allowed:
- maximum chordwise dimension: 5 mm;
- maximum spanwise dimension: 5 mm;
- minimum distance from trim tab edge: at least 20 mm;
- max n°2 debondings for each side (upper and lower).
If allowable limits have been exceeded contact AW139 Customer Support
Engineering (cse.aw139.aw@leonardocompany.com).
41. With reference to Figure 5, apply sealant AWMS05-001 type I, class B, grade 2 on the
outline of outboard trim tab assy P/N 3G6210Z00232.
42. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-257A-B, restore paint on the blade trim
tab inboard and outboard area.

NOTE
Perform the following steps 43 thru 45 if the amount of
the tip balance weights is lower than 55 g.
Only Authorized Manufacturer (III level) can perform
the static balance of the main rotor blade at following
step 43.
43. In accordance with CR&OP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-37DA-C, perform the static balance

of the main rotor blade.
44. Record the new values on the relevant main rotor blade static balance sheet.
45. With reference to Figure 6 section C-C, apply sealant 199-47-001 Type I.

NOTE
Perform the following steps 46 thru 50 if the amount of
the tip balance weights is greater than / equal to 55 g.
46. If not already removed, in accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-06A-921A-A and
with reference to Figure 6 detail B, remove the pocket cover P/N 3G6210A01151; keep
existing hardware for later re-use.
47. Remove balance weights for a total amount of 55 g.
Remove/Install the blade tip balance weights in accordance with Annex A and perform
the weights measurement by means of an applicable weight scale.
48. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-06A-921A-A and with reference to Figure 6
detail B, install the pocket cover P/N 3G6210A01152 by means of n°6 screws
P/N NAS1189E3P5. Torque to 15-20 Kg*cm (13.3 thru 17.7 lbf in). Apply sealant MC780
AWMS05-001 type I class A grade 2 only under the screws head.
49. With reference to Figure 6 section C-C, apply sealant 199-47-001 Type I.
50. Record the new values on the relevant main rotor blade static balance sheet.
51. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-18-10-01-00A-37CA-A or 39-A-18-10-04-00A-37CA-A
and with helicopter configuration, perform the main rotor track and balance check.
52. Record for compliance with Part I of this Service Bulletin on the main rotor blade Log
Card.
53. Record for compliance with Part I of this Service Bulletin on the main rotor blade
Identification Plate P/N MS27253-2.
54. Send the attached compliance form to the following mail box:

PART II
1. With reference to Figure 7, carefully remove paint from the lightning strip assy and
surrounding area (about 1 inch) on lower and upper blade surfaces with gradually finer
abrasive paper starting from 240 grit to 320 grit or more.

NOTE
Performing following step 2, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
2. With reference to Figure 7, clean the areas without paint with a soft lint-free cloth soaked
with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).
3. With reference to Figure 7, heat with a heat gun the lightning strip assy
P/N 3G6210A02231 and carefully remove it with a spatula (flexible - rounded corners).
4. With reference to Figure 7, remove the adhesive with gradually finer abrasive paper
starting from 180 grit on upper and lower blade surfaces.

NOTE
Performing following step 5, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
5. With reference to Figure 7, clean the areas where adhesive has been removed with a
soft lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone
(C087).
6. With reference to Figure 7 detail E, remove the bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01551 using
gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 80 grit to 120 grit or more. Clean the
reworked area with a soft lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha
(C059) or acetone (C087).

NOTE
Following step 7 is applicable only to blade
P/N 4G6210A00132.
7. With reference to Figure 8 view F, remove the bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01351 using
gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 80 grit to 120 grit or more. Clean the
reworked area with a soft lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha
(C059) or acetone (C087).
8. Clean the bonding areas with gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 80 grit to 120
grit or more. Use a soft lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha
(C059) or acetone (C087).
9. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-31AA-B, inspect the areas of blades
without adhesive for voids or damages. If allowable limits have been exceeded, contact
AW139 Customer Support Engineering (cse.aw139.aw@leonardocompany.com).

10. In accordance with CR&OP DM 39-A-62-11-01-04A-720A-C, inspect the kapton and, if it
is damaged or partially removed, replace it.

NOTE
Performing following steps 11 and 12, DO NOT pre-
cure primer and adhesive in zone shown in Figure 7
Detail E.
11. With reference to Figure 7 detail E, apply primer AWMS08-001 class II on the erosion
shield area to be involved by bonding strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232 installation.
12. With reference to Figure 7 detail E, apply adhesive AWMS08-001, Type I, Form 292K on
the erosion shield area to be involved by bonding strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232
installation.
13. Protect the area with peel ply and cure the adhesive as described on the following
procedure:
13.1 Apply the thermocouple on the blade.
13.2 Apply the heating blanket.
13.3 Prepare and apply the vacuum bag.

NOTE
Performing following step 13.4, make sure that the
pressure over the entire bonding area is constant
during the cure cycle.
The cure time starts when the affected area arrives at
the necessary temperature for curing.
13.4 Be careful to cure at:
⎯ TEMPERATURE: 104 to 110 °C;
⎯ TIME: at least 120 minutes;
⎯ PRESSURE: 0.6 to 0.8 kg/cm2.
13.5 Remove the vacuum bag, the heating blanket and the thermocouple.
14. Remove the peel ply from the lightning bonding strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232 and clean
with gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 280 grit to 320 grit or more. With
reference to Figure 7, clean the areas without paint with a soft lint-free cloth soaked with
MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).

15. With reference to Figure 7, clean the areas where adhesive has been removed with a

(C087) and apply primer EA9203 on the lightning bonding strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232
except on areas involved by Raychem S1184 application.

NOTE
Following steps 16 and 17 are applicable only to blade
P/N 4G6210A00132.
16. With reference to Figure 7 and Figure 8 view F, remove the adhesive on the bonding
strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232 with gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 180 grit
or finer on the area to be bonded to bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01351.

NOTE
Performing following step 17, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
17. With reference to Figure 7 and Figure 8 view F, clean the areas without adhesive with a
soft lint-free cloth soaked with MEK (C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone
(C087) and apply primer EA9203 on the bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01351.
18. Remove the peel ply from the blade bonding surfaces of the erosion strip and clean with
gradually finer abrasive paper starting from 280 grit to 320 grit or more.

NOTE
Performing following step 19, let the cleaned area dry
for 30 minutes.
19. Clean the bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01552 with a soft lint-free cloth soaked with MEK
(C005) or aliphatic naphtha (C059) or acetone (C087).
20. With reference to Figure 7 detail D and detail E, apply adhesive EA9309.3NA on the
areas not involved by Raychem S1184 application between lightning bonding strip and
blade body assy.

NOTE
Following step 21 is applicable only to blade
P/N 4G6210A00132.
21. With reference to Figure 8 view F, install the bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01351.
22. With reference to Figure 7 detail E, apply adhesive Raychem S1184 on the shown area
between lightning bonding strip and blade body assy.

NOTE
Performing following step 23, bonding mesh P/N
4G6210A01552 should be folded in half to ensure
bonding continuity.
23. With reference to Figure 7 detail E, install the bonding mesh P/N 4G6210A01552.
24. With reference to Figure 7, install the lightning strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232.
25. Cure the adhesive as described on the following procedure:
25.1 Apply the thermocouple on the blade skin.
25.2 Apply the heating blanket.
25.3 Prepare and apply the vacuum bag.

NOTE
Performing following step 25.4, make sure that the
pressure over the entire bonding area is constant
during the cure cycle.
The cure time starts when the affected area arrives at
the necessary temperature for curing.
25.4 Be careful to cure at:
⎯ TEMPERATURE: 60 to 70 °C;
⎯ TIME: at least 60 minutes;
⎯ PRESSURE: 0.6 to 0.8 kg/cm2.
25.5 Remove the vacuum bag, the heating blanket and the thermocouple.

NOTE
Performing following steps 26 thru 31, if allowable
limits have been exceeded, contact

26. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-00A-31AA-B, inspect the areas for
debonding, voids or damages.

NOTE
Following step 27 is applicable only to blade

27. With reference to Figure 7 points A and B, perform the bonding continuity check
between lightning strip assy P/N 3G6210A02232 and erosion shield P/N 3G6210L00251
and ensure that the value does NOT exceed 0.1 Ohm.

NOTE
Following steps 28 thru 31 are applicable only to blade
P/N 4G6210A00132.
28. With reference to Figure 7 points A and B, perform the bonding continuity check
between lightning strip and erosion shield and ensure that the value does NOT
exceed 0.1 Ohm.
29. Perform the bonding continuity check between lightning strip and connector with a
resistance minor of 0.1 Ohm.
30. Perform an isolation test applying a voltage of 500 Vdc with a rate of 100 Vdc/sec
between the heater mat and the erosion shield for twenty seconds and verify that the
resistance is equal or greater than 200 MOhm.
31. With reference to Figure 8 detail Q, perform a bonding test in the six zones and record
the values. Be sure that the values are in the range indicated in the table below.

BLADE TIP BALANCE WEIGHTS REMOVE/INSTALL PROCEDURES

NOTE
For a correct application of this annex it is preferable to
begin from position 1: if available, mass-balance
weights in the pocket 1 must be removed first.

NOTE
Mass-balance weights P/N are the following:
 A344A001A or AW001SHA49010A;
 A344A001P or AW001SHA49010P;
 A344A001S or AW001SHA49010S;
 A344A001T or AW001SHA49010T.

1. Remove the blade tip balance weights according to the following procedure:
1.1 Put the main rotor blade on an applicable work table.
1.2 In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-06A-921A-A remove the pocket
cover; keep existing hardware for later re-use.
1.3 With reference to Figure A1, remove these parts that attach the blade-tip balance
weights to the pocket 1:
 The nut P/N MS21042L3;
 The washer P/N NAS1149F0332P;
 The screw P/N MS24694-S57.
1.4 Identify and record the installation position of the blade-tip balance weights. This
is to put them in their correct position at installation.
1.5 Remove the blade-tip balance weights from the pocket 1.
1.6 Do steps 1.3 thru 1.5 to remove the blade-tip balance weights from the pocket 2,
if required.
2. Install the blade tip balance weights according to the following procedure:
2.1 With reference to Figure A1, install the blade-tip balance weights in their correct
position in the pocket 1. Make sure to install them in the same position you
identified at the removal.

NOTE
When required, mass-balance weights
P/N A344A001S (or P/N AW001SHA49010S) and
P/N A344A001T (or P/N AW001SHA49010T) must be
the last installed (external side).

2.2 Put a drop of Sealant MC780 A-1/2 below the head of the two screws
P/N MS24694-S57.

2.3 With reference to Figure A1, install these parts that attach the blade-tip balance
weights into the pocket 1:
 The screw P/N MS24694-S57;
 The washer P/N NAS1149F0332P;
 The nut P/N MS21042L3.
2.4 Torque the nut P/N MS21042L3 to 15 thru 20 Kg*cm (13.3 thru 17.7 lbf in).
2.5 Do steps 2.1 thru 2.4 to install the blade-tip balance weights into the pocket 2, if
required.
2.6 Do the duplicate inspection on the balance weights installation.
2.7 Apply the slide mark on the two screws P/N MS24694-S57.
2.8 In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-62-11-01-06A-921A-A install the pocket cover.
