B. Inspection of the Area
(1) FOR 3SD1 (ANTENNA-DME, 1)
You can find DME 1 antenna at zone 120.
(2) FOR 3SD2 (ANTENNA-DME, 2)
You can find DME 2 antenna at zone 130.
(3) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
(4) If the inspection area is not sufficiently clean, clean the inspection area with the Non Aqueous Clea
ner-General - - (Material Ref. 08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material Ref. 14SBA1).

SUBTASK 34-51-11-210-050-A
A. Types of Damage
(1) There are two types of damage:
- Critical damage
- Erosion (deep erosion or light erosion).
If you find these signs of corrosion during a visual inspection, record this damage as
critical damage.
NOTE: Corrosion damage increases gradually in a period of time but this will not
show suddenly. You cannot find this type of damage on a new antenna or
an antenna that had no signs of damage of the paint or the protection lay
ers during the last inspection.
(b) Erosion is a type of wear which gradually removes the antenna paint layers.
The erosion can be:
1 Mechanical:
Air, dust and small particles can have an abrasive effect on the antenna and cause
wear of the antenna paint layers. If you do not repair this type of damage, it can cau
se wear to the structure.
2 Chemical:
Chemical reactions can cause damage to the paint. If you do not repair this type of d
amage, it can cause corrosion.
a Deep erosion:
Ref. Fig. Deep Erosion
If there is deep erosion, you can see the bare metal or plastic structure of the
antenna, which can cause corrosion or erosion on the structure. If this occur
s, the damage becomes critical.
b Light erosion:
Ref. Fig. Light Erosion
In this type of erosion, you can see the primer of the antenna but you cannot
see the bare structure.

E. Operational Test
(1) Do the operational test of the DME antenna in the conditions that follow Ref. AMM TASK 34-51-00-
710-001:
- At the start of the tolerance period, when you find damage for the first time, before the first
dispatch allowance.
- During the tolerance period, if the damage type changes quickly and becomes more critical
(refer to Para. 4.A. for the criticality and to Para. 4.C. for the next dispatch allowance).
SUBTASK 34-51-11-960-050-A
F. Replacement of the DME Antenna
(1) At the end of the tolerance period, replace the DME antenna Ref. AMM TASK 34-51-11-000-002 and
Ref. AMM TASK 34-51-11-400-002.
