Tokyo Olympics; Indonesia's Greysia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's badminton women's double players Greysia Polii and
Apriyani Rahayu (Greysia / Apriyani) made their way to the Tokyo Olympics final after
defeating South Korea's couple Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan at the semifinal in Musashino
Forest Sport Plaza, Japan, on Saturday, July 31. This was the best achievement for Indonesia's
women's double at the Olympics in the past 29 years.
They managed to reach the achievement at Tokyo 2020 Olympics through hardships. At
the elimination round group, they only lost one game when Greysia / Apriyani finally defeated
Yuki Fukushima / Sayaka Hirota at the rubber game with scores 22-24, 21-13, and 8-21.
Greysia / Apriyani, who are at the seventh position, also had to battle with a higher rank
couple at the quarter final. But they managed to beat down China's pair Du Yue / Li Yin Hui,
who ranked sixth, by winning three games with 21-15, 20-22, and 21-17.
The South Korea's pair Lee So-hee/ Shin Seung-chan, who Greysia / Apriyani defeated at
the semifinal, was also in a higher rank. They are South Korea's best pair ranked fourth in the
world.
Greysia / Apriyani possibly will have to face opponents with higher rank at the Tokyo
Oympics final. China's Chen Qing Chen / Jia Yi Fan pair is at the world's second position, while
South Korea's Kim Soyeong / Kong Heeyong couple is at the fifth rank.

Super Junior
Super Junior (Korean: 슈퍼주니어; Syupeo Junieo), also known as SJ or SuJu, is a
South Korean boy band debuted on November 6, 2005, by producer Lee Soo-man of SM
Entertainment. They are also dubbed by the media as the "King of Hallyu Wave" due to their
prominent contributions in Korean Wave. The group comprised a total of thirteen members at
its peak. Super Junior originally debuted with twelve members, consisting of leader Leeteuk,
Heechul, Han Geng, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon,
Ryeowook, and Kibum. Kyuhyun joined the group later in 2006.
Super Junior launched into international recognition following the release of their best-
selling single "Sorry, Sorry" in 2009, the title song of their most critically successful album,
Sorry, Sorry. Over the years, they have been divided into smaller groups, simultaneously
targeting different music industries and audiences. The members have also individually
branched out into hosting, presenting and acting. Their successes and popularity as all-
rounded entertainers have led other Korean entertainment managements to also begin training
their music groups in other aspects of the entertainment industry.
In 2009, Han Geng filed a lawsuit against SM due to unfavorable contract terms and
officially left the group in 2011. In 2015, Kibum's contract with SM ended and in 2019,
Kangin left the group voluntarily. As of 2021, Super Junior has nine active members—
Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Donghae, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun
— with Sungmin on hiatus since 2015.
Super Junior was the best-selling K-pop artist for four years in a row. The group has
earned thirteen music awards from the Mnet Asian Music Awards, nineteen from the Golden
Disc Awards, and are the second singing group to win Favorite Artist Korea at the 2008 MTV
Asia Awards after jtL in 2003.[8] In 2012, they were nominated for "Best Asian Act" in MTV
Europe Music Awards. They won the "International Artist" and "Best Fandom" awards at the
2015 Teen Choice Awards. In March 2020, Super Junior broke their own record topping the
Korean Album Chart of Taiwan's KKBOX for 122 consecutive weeks since 2017 with their
8th album Play, the 8th album repackage REPLAY in 2018, the 9th album Time_Slip from
2019, and this year's 9th album repackage Timeless. Their fandom name is E.L.F, which
stands for Ever Lasting Friends.

Veteran K-pop boy band Super Junior returns with album celebrating
debut anniversary

Super Junior, one of the longest-running K-pop boy groups, has dropped a new album in
a belated celebration of the 15th anniversary of its debut. The group's 10th studio album, titled
"The Renaissance," carries 10 songs, including the main track "House Party" as well as
"Super," "Burn the Floor," "Paradox" and "Closure."
"This album shares a lot of similarities with our very first album," Leeteuk, the band's
leader, said during a press conference held ahead of the album's release on Tuesday. Referring
to the album title, Leeteuk voiced hope that the anniversary album will serve as a "turning
point" for a "new renaissance" in the group's career. The 10-track album was supposed to drop
last year in line with the group's 15th anniversary, but the plan was pushed back for better
quality. "The members were anxious about the delay just like fans. But we teamed up to
prepare for the album smoothly," Leeteuk said.
Main rapper-dancer Eunhyuk said the main track "House Party," penned by key SM
Entertainment producer Yoo Young-jin, best captures Super Junior's identity. The upbeat
disco-pop number, which has a comical touch, conveys the message of enjoying the little
things in life while playing by the rules during the pandemic.
The lyrics say "Let's put aside our wishes to hang out for a little while" and "stick to the
cool manner of protecting each other in accordance with the new rules," reflecting the changes
that COVID-19 has prompted in everyday life. "Pop music should portray the world people
are living in at the moment," Leeteuk said. "But we tried to deliver the message in a light and
joyful way rather than taking a serious approach."
"We hope the pandemic goes away soon so that the next generation will be asking 'What
is COVID-19?' after listening to our song," member Heechul added.Since its debut in 2005,
Super Junior has long been popular at home and abroad with a string of hit songs, such as
"Sorry, Sorry," "U," "Mr. Simple" and "Black Suit." In May, the group attracted around
123,000 viewers from across the world to its online concert.
Looking back on the group's career, Eunhyuk said the 2012 concert in Paris was his most
memorable moment. "Back then, the dominant sentiment on K-pop was that it is culture only
popular in Asia. But the Paris concert helped K-pop pave its way to Europe," he said.
Member Shindong reminisced about the time when Yoo proposed the idea of the hand-
rubbing dance moves for "Sorry, Sorry," one of the group's most successful songs. The number
went viral for its catchy melody and dance moves in 2009.
"We hope our fans and the public will always remember us as a group with dynamic
energy and distinct blitheness," Donghae said. (Yonhap).

This is somebody who lives in Washington, DC. His or her job, which is one
of the most difficult jobs in the world, is to carry out the laws which are written by the
government of the United States. He or she is somebody who meets with foreign leaders
on a regular basis. He or she is somebody for whom the majority of voters must choose
every four years. If this person doesn’t win the majority of votes, he or she “steps
down” from office. This is a job that doesn’t last longer than eight (8) years. This is
somebody who has a family. His or her children, who are both teenagers, are getting
more and more rebellious, according to this person. He or she says that the older they
get, the more rebellious their actions are. This person also lives in a place where there
is security 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That means this person is somebody who
is always protected from any terrorist plot. This is somebody whose job is a dream for
most children who grow up in the US. However, this is somebody who has also said
that his job is one of the hardest in the world. This is somebody who must deal with
many obstacles. This person is somebody who controls the military, and he signs
agreements which extend and strengthen globalization through trade. Previous people
who had this job became art painters or they retired in isolation because of the high
demands of the position. Who is this person?.

Transcript: Barack Obama's DNC speech

(CNN)Read former President Barack Obama's speech to the 2020 Democratic

National Convention, as prepared for delivery:
Good evening, everybody. As you've seen by now, this isn't a normal
convention. It's not a normal time. So tonight, I want to talk as plainly as I can about
the stakes in this election. Because what we do these next 76 days will echo through
generations to come.
I'm in Philadelphia, where our Constitution was drafted and signed. It wasn't a
perfect document. It allowed for the inhumanity of slavery and failed to guarantee
women -- and even men who didn't own property -- the right to participate in the
political process. But embedded in this document was a North Star that would guide
future generations; a system of representative government -- a democracy --
through which we could better realize our highest ideals. Through civil war and
bitter struggles, we improved this Constitution to include the voices of those who'd
once been left out. And gradually, we made this country more just, more equal, and
more free.
The one Constitutional office elected by all of the people is the presidency. So
at minimum, we should expect a president to feel a sense of responsibility for the
safety and welfare of all 330 million of us -- regardless of what we look like, how
we worship, who we love, how much money we have -- or who we voted for.
But we should also expect a president to be the custodian of this democracy.
We should expect that regardless of ego, ambition, or political beliefs, the president
will preserve, protect, and defend the freedoms and ideals that so many Americans
marched for and went to jail for; fought for and died for.
I have sat in the Oval Office with both of the men who are running for president.
I never expected that my successor would embrace my vision or continue my
policies. I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show
some interest in taking the job seriously; that he might come to feel the weight of
the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in
his care.
But he never did. For close to four years now, he's shown no interest in putting
in the work; no interest in finding common ground; no interest in using the
awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends; no interest
in treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show that he can use to
get the attention he craves.
Donald Trump hasn't grown into the job because he can't. And the
consequences of that failure are severe. 170,000 Americans dead. Millions of jobs
gone while those at the top take in more than ever. Our worst impulses unleashed,
our proud reputation around the world badly diminished, and our democratic
institutions threatened like never before.
Now, I know that in times as polarized as these, most of you have already made
up your mind. But maybe you're still not sure which candidate you'll vote for -- or
whether you'll vote at all. Maybe you're tired of the direction we're headed, but you
can't see a better path yet, or you just don't know enough about the person who
wants to lead us there.
