Art, in its many forms, has always been a reflection of human creativity and
expression. Before watching the video, my own definition of art was basically Oxford's
definition: the expression of imaginative ideas through mediums like painting, drawing,
sculpture, animation, dance, and music. This seemingly simple definition, however,
leaves out the profound impact art has on the human experience. Art is not just a
physical manifestation of creativity but a vital part of the human spirit, capturing one's
understanding of art, bettered by insights from different people and my views on the
beyond mere visual or auditory appeal. I learned that art is an integral part of the human
spirit, a conduit for expressing the human soul in all its complexity. This idea resonates
with the thoughts of renowned artists and thinkers throughout history. For instance,
Pablo Picasso once said, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life"
(Picasso, 1964). This quote stresses the idea that art is not merely an object or a
performance but a profound experience that rejuvenates the human spirit by improving
it.
share to others the cherished and best sentiments to which men have risen" (Tolstoy,
Furthermore, I also learned from the video how art captures the essence of the
brought to life through many different mediums. It's a thing that looks cool or sounds
cool with the human heart at its center. Art also serves as a therapeutic medium,
offering solace and understanding to both the creator and the viewer.
In conclusion, art is more than the Oxford definition. Art encompasses a wide
range of human experiences and emotions, not only the medium in which it's presented.
It is a vital part of our existence, what makes us human. It reflects our innermost
thoughts and feelings. As our world changes, so too will our understanding and
definition of art, but its essential role in human life will remain constant. Art is, and will
always be, a testament to the enduring power of human creativity and spirit.
