Concept Notes

There is a cause-and-effect relationship when one thing happens because of

the other. The cause is the reason why something happens. An effect is what
or the event that happened.

Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual

increase in the average temperature of the Earth's
EFFECT atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed
EFFECT to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate. The
rate of temperature increase have more than doubled
since 1981.

The increased volumes of carbon dioxide and other

greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil
fuels, land clearing, agriculture, and other human CAUSE
activities, are believed to be the primary sources of the
global warming that has occurred over the past 50
years.
